Had this winder for about two years. It stopped working after about a year, and I thought that was it - get what you pay for. But I refused to buy a 2nd one, or a more expensive one. So I opened it up (to seemingly find nothing wrong), smacked it around and left it in the garage ("dog house") for a month, and it started working again... for a few months, then it didn't, again. Finally, I thought I had nothing else to lose, so I opened it up again. This time I saw the problem. The control chip had one of the wires that were soldered to it that was gradually coming off. This time, it had completely broken off, and wasn't connected to the solder point. The wires are flimsy, but whatever. I re-stripped the wire, soldered it back on, and now it's working like new again. Until, I imagine, the internal movements cause something else to wear down.

I have a number of automatic watches and multi-winders in which they're stored when not worn. However, my prize is the Rolex Datejust SS & Gold watch my late father wore. While it is too precious to wear except on very special occasions, I did not want it locked away in a big cabinet with all of the others. This handy winder with the viewport was the perfect answer.

It sits proudly on my credenza in my study, so that I can see the watch whenever I want - and the wonderful memories it evokes. True, it does make a slight sound when rotating. However, for me it is a reminder to let my gaze wonder over to the watch, so the "noise" - such as it is - is a bonus.

The slow speed of the winder and the automatic "1-hour-on-and-3-hours-off" helps guard against overwinding. The choice of "clockwise" or "anti-clockwise" rotation is important - some automatics will not wind but one direction. Check your watch manual, your jeweler or the manufacturer to be sure.

The price on this winder is a great bargain. It is much more sophisticated than less expensive models and even more costly versions. You can't go wrong.

If you buy this, consider it a rental because it's very cheaply made. Mine worked fine for ten months and then stopped working. Even though it is still under warranty, the company has ignored my requests for warranty service. The only way to contact them is through a gmail address, and they are just ignoring my emails. I wouldn't buy anything from Diplomat again.

*Well, almost immediately after posting this (and letting Amazon know how unhappy I was with Diplomat), Amazon notified me that they are sending me a replacement on their own. This is the type of customer service that makes Amazon my favorite place to buy things.

I own six diplomat winders including this little gem. It spins a 270 gram watch with no difficulty. I have had mine for four months and keep it near my bed. The movement is soundless and runs like a champ. I have had good success with the diplomat brand of winders as oppossed to the problems some have had with the more expensive brands. A great piece of furniture this is not. It just does the job of keeping your watches wound. Watches with a max band width of 26mm and 50mm case width should fit.

Been using this watch winder for approx 4 weeks. It appears to be identical to model made by Garmin. Works well, although makes a humming or vibration type of noise when it rotates (similar to the hum or vibration of a cieling fan motor on low speed). Winder really has only two settings once you turn it on: either clockwise or counter-clockwise rotation. That's it. Unable to control the rotation speed with this model. Winder automatically rotates for 1 hour and then stops for 3 hours. I guess that's how they come up with terms "multi-setting" and "smart timer".

My model did not come with directions/instructions. Had to figure out that the plastic "box" in middle of console pops out by hand. Plastic "box" is spring loaded, and you squeeze it throught your watch band (it uses outward tension to take the place of your wrist). Push everything back into housing and turn it on. Overall pretty simple to use and my watch keeps acurate time. Just wish it was a little quieter.

Item arrived well packed but didn't work, I tried to contact the manufacturer but there is no contact information in the box, thanks goodness it was shipped by Amazon so I returned it for full refund, by the way it is very cheap looking.

This winder appears to be very cheaply made; and it is! And the first time I turned it on it made a grinding noise. This is unacceptable for a product that I expected to use on my night-table. I returned it.

I was having a lot of problems with my expensive Swiss automatic watch stopping after only a few hours of non-wear. In spite of watch cleaning and repairs, the problem was not solved. So I thought I'd try an automatic watch winder. This inexpensive little gadget has solved the problem. I simply put my watch in at night, and now it is running all the time, accurately. I'm happy.
