Well-plotted, character-driven sci-fi,
By Viranga (Melbourne, Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Diplomatic Immunity (Miles Vorkosigan Adventures) (CD-ROM)
Part of the appeal of the main character is that he over-extends himself as much as he over-achieves.
This book is one of the better books in what is one of the better sci-fi series out there. The plots are consistent, and the characters are well developed. Though much of the background politics and several of the characters are fleshed out in the earlier books, and come to this one already developed. This is the latest book (as of May 2008) in the Vorkosigan series. I guess it could be read on its own, and enjoyed. However, I seriously recommend going back and reading the series from at least Memory (Miles Vorkosigan Adventures). Some characters are fleshed out in the earlier books. If you have the time go back to Cordelia's Honor which contains (and is strangely cheaper in price than each of) the first two novels in the series. Reading Falling Free before hand would also be good, but not essential.
