5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Read from Elsie Lee, March 12, 2007
This review is from: The Diplomatic Lover (Paperback)
Elsie Lee just has a light way with her characters that hooks me. They are fun, talented and always sound like someone you would enjoy meeting. This one, set in Washington D.C., has romance, international intrigue and glamour.
Here's how my sister describes them: "Written in the sixties, Elsie Lee's books showcased smart, capable career girls who had it all until a bad love affair/marriage made everything fall apart. Most of the book would involve picking up the pieces and trying to build a new life. In the last chapter, despite being hit on the head, dropped off a cliff, shot in the arm, or being trapped in a chilly dungeon they could still unravel the most complicated international plot for Interpol or FBI in two paragraphs and resolve their new love life the next two paragraphs."
From the back cover: As a top translator for the British Embassy in Washington, sophisticated Nonny Littauer was well-versed in the languages of men. But as a glamourous young lady, the jet-haired beauty was sorely lacking in the language of love. Then the towering, accomplished, experienced actor York Deland strode into her life, and Nonny hadn't a doubt that he'd be the perfect teacher to make a woman out of her. Now that Nonny was no longer a maid, she seemed vulnerable to all sorts of men. Why did she sense a hostile undercurrent beneath the English Attache Henry Devenish's impeccable manners? And why did the suaave French Duc de Chevanelle want to know so much about her investments? Now that she'd lost her innocence, was it imperative that she relinquish her optimism, her pride -- and her fortune-- as well?
