Dippin' My Spoon is like mainstream fiction meets psychological thriller. There are a lot of things going on. How many times have you wondered why you were friends with someone? How many times have you known you were making a bad decision but made it anyway? That is the point where Amber is in her life. She is figuring out who she is, going through an identity crisis. She is struggling for independence from the men in her life. One of the male characters is suffering from a psychological disorder. I don't want to tell too much. The book also touches a little on the supernatural. It's a cornucopia of drama. Yes, it is a relationship novel, but it deals with bad relationships from the perspective of the main character not being a victim. Instead, she is in control and LETS everything that happens to her happen, that is, until she gets it all together. Instead of "Oh, he is a bad guy, she is a bitch. They are doing this to me," you have "I am the captain of my own fate and if this happens to me, it's my fault and no one else's."

More About the Author

Nina Foxx is the author of 7 novels (published by HarperCOllins, Romantic Comedy), been included in two anthologies, and has wrtten, produced and directed several stage plays that have toured the country. She has also written the accompanying music (available on itunes) and one of her plays is available on DVD, and is distributed by Urban HOme Entertainment. She also has produced three feature length films that will be in theaters in 2012 (513, Magic Valley & A** Backwards). She also wrote, produced and directed two shorts, Closer to CRazy and She's Got Is'Shoes that have won numerous awards, and is in pre-production on a fourth feature film based on one of her earlier books, and a is a producer on two TV Shows for the National Geographic Channel.
She holds an MFA in Creative Writing as well as a Ph.D. in I/o Psychology. Nina has authored several industrial design patents, and has been called a relentless marketer of her work. She has been featured in several magazines, including PW, Black Issues Book Review, QBR, Brilliant, Today's Black Woman and Black Enterprise.


Cynnamon Foster is the alter-ego of author Nina Foxx. She has been begging to be let out for quite awhile. She tied Nina up and put her in a closet and has been writing ever since.

Cynnamon Lives in Southern California with her main personality.

I was afforded the opportunity to read an advanced copy of "Dippin My Spoon". I enjoyed this book so much I read entire book in one sitting. I couldn't put it down. The character,Amber LaReaux, came to life on the pages of this book. I found myself experiencing pain, disappointment, fear and happiness with this character. The villians in this carefully woven plot were invisible until the surprising ending. I really picked the wrong one. Bravo Nina Foxx! When is your next book?

I BOUGHT THIS BOOK BECAUSE OF THE TITLE AND WHAT SEEMED TO BE GOOD REVIEWS. THE MAIN CHARATER, AMBER WAS TRULY A DISSAPOINTMENT. I CAN'T BELIEVE SHE COUNSELED OTHER PEOPLE. THE MEN IN HER LIFE WERE SO OBVIOUS, HOW AS A COUNSELOR SHE COULD NOT SEE THESE UNHEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS SHE WAS IN? CHE WAS ANOTHER, WITH A "FRIEND" LIKE THAT...WHO NEEDS ENEMIES. I WAITED AND WAITED FOR THIS BOOK TO GO SOMEWHERE BUT IT LEFT ME HANGIN'. THE DIPPIN' SPOON HERE IS A PLASTIC ONE. THIS IS NOT A GOOD READ UNLESS YOU LIKE TO SEE SOMEONE MAKE THE WRONG CHIOCES OVER AND OVER WITH NO PRODUCTIVE END RESULT.

I picked this book up b/c this was a new sister on the block, she has Sisterlocks and I thought the title was amusing. Instead of Dippin my Spoon this should have been called Stick me with a fork I'm done.

The character Amber got on my nerves, she was docile, and very naive, but then she had a scandelous friend and a wacko husband who she should have left long b4 she actually did. I am still trying to figure out what this book was about.

I would not read it again, would I recommend it, umm I don't think so, would I tell someone about it, if they just wanted to read anything yes.
