I purchased this book because of the great premise and I had read the first one, I will not give away plots or spoilers but I will say the Authors needs to get a better proof reader, there are way too many incorrect words and word usage.
This book lacks continuity and the flow was very herky jerky -- people have compared it to BDB, but beyond them calling each other brother and sorta residing in the same house with somewhat similar names, there really is no real comparison.
This Author has more than one scene in the book where the man has changed into a Dire wolf and the next sentence, same page he's taking off his clothes or opening a door etc. I spent more time rereading paragraphs and trying to discern what the Author was attempting to say than I did just reading and enjoying the book.
I am still wondering what happened to the pregnant girl from the last book. At one point Cain says he does not trust her and then we never hear what they did to her. Lastly I feel no love for the Characters of Stray and Kate I just didn't buy into the instant chemistry and then all the unneeded angst. Seems she tried to add too many bits and pieces that have already been done and done well in other peoples books to this one and failed. But the premise is good, to bad the writing is not.
"I think I'm in love with her. I know I'm her familiar. There's a different feel to the two things."
Kate Walters always knew she was different growing up and her mother tried over and over again to put a stop to it right up until her death. Katie was in the car with her parents the day they died and she should would have perished with them if someone hadn't drag her out of the car. The person who rescued her left her with more power than she had before and a handprint on her back, that only she can see, which guides her through life. One night Katie's world is turned upside down and a man named Stray is there to protect and guide her into the new world she discovers.
Stray is a Dire Wolf, a supernatural who can shift to a wolf, has special abilities and is immortal. Stray is part of a small pack in the U.S. and has kept his former clan in Greenland a secret from his brothers. Stray and his older brother Killian have been part of a prophecy their entire lives and have tried to stay apart to make sure it doesn't come true. When Stray rescues Katie he immediately recognizes that she is a witch and he is her familiar. Stray feels a pull towards Katie that is usually only for mates and he will protect the powerful witch even if it means going up against other Dires.
I wanted to love this book, heck I would have been happy with just liking it but unfortunately neither of those options happened. There is a lot going on in Dire Wants and personally it was too much. Every single character gets to have a POV and there are so many storylines and subplots that it can get confusing and sometimes boring.Read more ›
Stephanie Tyler is an outstanding writer, she is able to make the unbelievable very believable. She is able to make this book, of all things that go bump in the night, into a story full of intrigue, suspense, sensual desire, and heartwarming love.
I suggest that you do not read this series of books out of order. You need to start with the Novella, DIRE WARNING, then DIRE NEEDS followed by DIRE WANTS. Each book continues the main story into the next, with each having it's own hero and heroine. The next book after this one is DIRE DESIRES, which I can't wait to read.
I LOVED this book. The story world and characters Ms. Tyler creates in this series is very complex. This is not what I would call a light read. I love books that draw me in so completely that when I look up from reading, I'm surprised to find myself in my own house. This book was like that for me. I like books with intricate story lines and character histories, and Dire Wants delivers that.
There were a few instances of ...huh? I think another reviewer noted the same thing, like one moment a character was wearing a towel, and the next he was pulling off his pants, or something similar. This was a bit distracting, but not grossly so for me.
I did not find a lot of formatting, spelling or other errors of that nature in the Kindle edition. Overall, this was a great book, and I can't wait for the next in the series to come out so I can read that one as well.
