5.0 out of 5 stars Useful and fun
Direct Hits is a really helpful way to prepare for the SAT 1 Critical Reading and Writing. It uses lots of examples from life today to make learning vocabulary fun and easy. Best of all, the words really did appear on the recent SAT I took.

I ordered Direct Hits Core Vocabulary of the SAT: Volume 1 new for 68.89.
The book was water damaged, and every test had been written on. A waste
Of time. Beware!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely amazing for a typical teen, September 23, 2009
This review is from: Direct Hits Core Vocabulary of the SAT: Volume 1 (Paperback)
Although I knew most of the words in the Core Vocabulary volume, since I had been memorizing SAT words in the past, the explanations in this book really helped me to "grasp" the meaning of the words I had memorized before. Now I don't simply recognize words when I see them in sentence completion questions but I can also use them correctly in my essays.
The best part of this book is that explanations of the words stick to your mind never to be forgotten.
Before buying both volumes I would advise you to look at some of the words from each volume. If you have a large vocabulary you might not need to read the Core Vocabulary volume.

5.0 out of 5 stars A. DeMarco,"High School Parent", December 11, 2008
This review is from: Direct Hits Core Vocabulary of the SAT: Volume 1 (Paperback)
Vocabulary has been a challenging subject for my children and they all have benefitted from the use of this book in their preparation for the SAT's. The way in which the author chooses to introduce SAT-level vocabulary into a teenager's real-life experiences helps them to retain their meanings and use. My children have definitely seen "Direct Hits" each time they have taken the SAT's!

5.0 out of 5 stars Direct Hits? More Like Direct Way to Boost Your SAT Scores!!!, December 8, 2008
This review is from: Direct Hits Core Vocabulary of the SAT: Volume 1 (Paperback)
Direct Hits Core Vocabulary of the SAT: Volume 1

The best vocab-enhancing guide on the market today - bar none! This user-friendly book can help anyone who is interested in acing the SAT. A few words a day becomes a pleasantry rather than a chore. Yet, the slightly politically-charged example with 'Noxious' and China's air pollution was a bit tacky... :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Vocab Book, December 4, 2008
This review is from: Direct Hits Core Vocabulary of the SAT: Volume 1 (Paperback)
This book is by far the most fun SAT vocab book in the market today.

It is designed to engage the readers by using examples from culture and real life that most people can relate to. It is not intimidating like some other vocab books and it also has many hits for every SAT test so far.

A must buy if you are wanting to expand your vocab!

5.0 out of 5 stars Increase SAT Reading Score, August 12, 2008
This review is from: Direct Hits Core Vocabulary of the SAT: Volume 1 (Paperback)
Vocabulary is my younger son's biggest weakness and the SAT is loaded with very difficult words. Direct Hits is a set of vocabulary books he is currently using with the most up-to-date and difficult words compiled from the most recent SAT exams. Direct Hits helps make the words come alive (and easier to remember); the word exercises are helpful too. Learning these words will make a difference - my older son studied an earlier version of this word list and with practice improved his reading score score 160 points. These books are great!
