This vocabulary study guide is by far the best one you can get. I have tried using other lists and there were just too many words. And most of those words weren't even on the test! "Direct Hits" is the perfect name for this book though. The list is shorter than others and there wasn't a single word on the test that I didn't know! The examples for every word are unique and easy to relate to. They are often very funny and make the words much easier to remember. My SAT scores went way up after I used this book. I would recommend it to everyone who has to take the SAT.

Recommended by my college counselor, this book was very helpful in raising my Critical Reading and Writing score on the SAT. The words are grouped into logical and helpful categories, the examples are lively and easy to remember (and funny), and many of the words were on the June SAT! The groupings are short enough that one section can be done each day, and there are practice examples at the end of each section. Most importantly, though, you don't have to carry around a dictionary to do well on the SAT.

Vocabulary has been a challenging subject for my children and they all have benefitted from the use of this book in their preparation for the SAT's. The way in which the author chooses to introduce SAT-level vocabulary into a teenager's real-life experiences helps them to retain their meanings and use. My children have definitely seen "Direct Hits" each time they have taken the SAT's!
