Any alarm installer will tell you that the first thing a fairly proficient thief will do is to pop the trunk ( very easy to do once you put your mind to it) and pull the battery wire. That allows him to work comfortably in getting around the alarm without calling attention. Someone with a open trunk may even draw some sympathetic looks from bystanders.
Well, if you are investing hundreds of dollars in a effective alarm system, it is not very intelligent not to spend a few bucks and get a stand alone battery. This also allows you to have a second hidden siren ( I have two) that keeps blasting after the thief has pulled the battery wire.He will realize he is up against a professional job and will move on to an easier steal 90% of the time.
If you have a remote transmitter that will also mean the car owner is on its way. Here in Chicago where the second amendment blatantly ignored, and a law abiding citizen is prohibited from carrying a firearm for self defense, that means you will probably resort to throwing rocks at an armed criminal or wait for the police so that you can tell them how you lost your car after the thief is gone.
Anyway the only thing that keeps me from giving a 5 star rating is that the battery does not have any indicator or link that will let know how much charge it is holding.

Nice product, very well built but quite a bit larger than I expected. Finding a spot under the dash may be an issue but I'll figure it out.

This product is quality. I have been using it with my civic alarm for over 3 months now. I have had no issues thus far. Easy to hook up, quality product. The only confusing part is the power. When hooking up the wires your your alarm, you use the power wire from the battery. You do not join it with a separate power wire from the car. The alarm is powered by the car through the battery during normal operation. When the car power is lost, the battery continues to power the alarm module.

This is just like having a UPS for your car alarm. Things happen, vehicle batterys can get accidently discharged if you leave something on, batteries can become disconnected, need replacement, etc.. This product ensures that power gets to your car's security/GPS system when it needs it most.

I installed this with a Python 991 in a 2004 GMC Sierra. It's a reasonably-priced additional layer of protection for the alarm system, since a thief breaking into a car with an alarm system will invariably try to clip the battery wire.

It's easy for a thief to lift your hood and pull the battery. If you have this battery tucked safely behind your dash, it might just save you from an insurance claim or police report.

I paid the extra money to have my dash removed and the battery and alarm tucked safely behind it. Needless to say, the car has never been messed with since. Previously, the car often disappeared and reappeared every few months from joyriders. Now, with this battery hooked up to a Viper 5901, my car can always be found safely where I left it.

Only con for this is that if you leave your lights on and your battery runs down, your alarm will sound continuously until either the alarm is disabled or someone takes a sledgehammer to your noisy car. This doesn't happen if your alarm is off or in valet mode. Be forewarned.

This 520T Back-up Battery Works excellent and it is not complicated to install it or add it to your alarm system, the only one thing that made me to uninstall it, was because I use My truck just a few days in a month and the rest of the time as it is parked in the Garage, this back-up Battery keeps draining your Car's Battery so in about 15 days if you do not turn on your car, expect a low or dead Battery. Otherwise if You use your Car regularly every day, this extra Battery helps You to keep your Alarm active even if Car's battery is completely disconnected. One of the advantages is that the 520T can be hidden so easy every where and if for some reason the Battery has to be disconnected, this 520T is going to keep alarm,Clock etc on so whenever the Battery is connected back, You don't have to adjust anything.

After 1 year the battery was dead. When I first installed it, I tested it by disconnecting my car's battery, and it worked great and immediately triggered the alarm. 1 year later, I tried it again and nothing. Oh well.
