A typical quickstart guide...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Director 7 for Macintosh & Windows Visual QuickStart Guide (Paperback)
I've used these quickstart guides for many different programs, and, overall, I find them all the same. If you're an experienced computer user, you can probably figure out most of what's contained in the book by yourself with a little time. Where the book does come in useful, however, is for stuff that you remember learning how to do but don't remember how to do it.This book was reccommended by the teacher of a class I took where we were learning Director ... it was good in that sense, so when we were in class and forgot how to do something, the book usually answered our questions without us having to ask her. Still, there's a lot it doesn't cover, and it sometimes makes things more complicated than they need to be. For example, if there are 3 different ways to do something, instead of just telling you the easiest way, it tells you all 3. A useful book, but most useful if you are a quick learner, already know something about the program, or won't be getting too deep into the program.

Good Reference...Not So Good Tutor,

This review is from: Director 7 for Macintosh & Windows Visual QuickStart Guide (Paperback)
Buy this book if you want a brief reference at times when you need some reminders. If you want to learn Director in a manner that will help you create something quickly, don't use this book. It is really just a collection of facts about different parts of the program. Get the Gross book and learn the program with an eye on creating a finished product.

Great book to get you going in Director 7,

I was very pleased with this book. Especially for the price, you're getting a great introduction to Director. The writing is very clear and straight to the point. The book includes info on making Director movies on the Web, Lingo, and Behaviors. I tip my hat to the author.

Well, I wouldn't recomend this book as anything but a primer. No real practical examples or inspiration. No real lingo help either.

If I didn't have this book in my multimedia class, I would have failed horribly. You will be able to make great Director projects with this book. It's not over wordy. It's not full of techno jibba-jabba. I completed my class months ago, but I'm still reading the book. This time, I'm reading for fun. I recommend all the Visual Quickstart books, especially this one.

For those that have never picked up Director, this is a nice and clear way to step into it's powerful interface. This book introduces you to each of its panels- drawing, the timeline, properties and then briefs you on Lingo (Director's own scripting language). I'd give this book another star if it gave a little more information on Lingo.A nice way to become acquainted with Director. If you want to get more in depth I'd recommend Director 7 Demystified.

good,

It's exactly what the title says...a quickstart to using DIRECTOR 7. after all... that's all that could be quick, because in my opinion Director programs are work-intensive.

Beginner,
This review is from: Director 7 for Macintosh & Windows Visual QuickStart Guide (Paperback)
Being a beginner this book not only helped me but it increased the speed at which I would have learnt ... you may ask Why? Because it is such an easy to reference book and it is nice and easy to read. I have bought other books on director that look like thick manuals which take you days on end to get through but this one was quick and easy. I must agree with the other reviews that I have read, in that I wish there were more worked out examples (it is always a nice feature to work with the writer.) Summery If you are a beginner and want an easy to reference book then this is the book.
