Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Welcome to the wacky, wonderful world of inspirational author Janice Hanna Thompson, where romantic comedy rules the day, and where characters like Tia Morales (Stars Collide director and self-proclaimed control freak) turn their world (and yours) upside-down! If you enjoyed my "Weddings by Bella" series, you're sure to love this one, too. How do I know that? Because Bella is mentioned in this book AND Brock Benson (Hollywood heartthrob) is a major player in this story! I hope you love to laugh, because I make it my goal to tickle your funny bone at every turn in my light-hearted tales. Why do I focus on the light-hearted stuff? Because life is hard! My readers lead busy, chaotic lives and need those special "Calgon, Take Me Away!" moments! Providing "Love, Laughter and Happily Ever Afters" brings me great delight. Lest you think it's all fluff, think again! Woven between the lines of each cheerful tale you will find the ultimate love story, one guaranteed to stir your soul and get your heart fluttering. Talk about a real happily ever after! There's something for everyone in my inspirational romances, so settle back in your chair, grab a cup of Earl Grey tea, and get ready to enjoy a fun love story set in Hollywood.

From the Back Cover

The one thing she can't direct is her heart.

Tia Morales is used to calling the shots. She's the director of the popular sitcom Stars Collide, and her life on the set is calculated and orderly. Well, most of the time. Life outside the studio is another matter. If only she could get other people to behave as well as her stars do! When she starts to have feelings for handsome cameraman Jason Harris--with whom she's been butting heads for months--it's enough to send a girl over the edge. Will she ever learn to let go and take life--and love--as it comes?

Full of the humor and crazy family dynamics Janice Thompson fans have come to love, this colorful story gives you an inside look at Hollywood and a healthy dose of romance. If you want more of Bella, DJ, Brock Benson, and other favorite characters from Janice Thompson, you'll love the Backstage Pass series.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's fine - not bad - not great July 11, 2012
By Jendi
Format:Paperback
I found The Director's Cut to be an ok story. I'll admit that I was interested because it's about a director and I love to make videos; but there really isn't much about the actual directing - except that it's stressful. I am going to read more at Janice Thompson's blog where she actually talks about her days as a director. I should have checked what other books by this same author that I've read before. If you like her style this book runs along the same lines as the others - guess that's good because it is number 3 in this series.

Was it bad? No. Light, fluffy, and fun. Maybe for a bit younger of a reader? I did like the references to old movies and stars. I was impressed that all of the chapter titles are sitcom titles. The religious content is very low. The overall theme is about the heroine accepting that she can't control everything, and should accept that she can't change her family - just help them.

This is the first time I have picked up a book by Janice Thompson, as when I've looked up her books in the past, they seemed very "chic-flick" and I am not really interested in those kind of books. But when I was given the opportunity to read this book, I decided to take a chance...and I'm glad I did! What a wonderful surprise to find that The Director's Cut wasn't only a fun and easy read, but had an awesome lesson interwoven into the plot as well! If you are a control-freak...you'd do well to give this book a try! ;-)

I haven't read any of the previous books in the series, but the cast and crew of Stars Collide endeared themselves to me through the course of The Director's Cut. What a fun bunch to work with. And as for Tia--I really came to respect her and all her determination as the director of Stars Collide. It was no easy task, but she always took it in strides. And while strength was admirable, I was happy when she finally started letting other people get close to her--namely, Jason--and lean on other people's strength as well.

As I mentioned before, The Director's Cut has a really great lesson about letting go of the "reins of life" and trusting in God and others to help you through the difficult times. Everything was so seamlessly woven into the plot--the book never came across as too strong or `preachy', which was nice.

The Director's Cut is in first person, and Tia's personality and humor really stand out, making for several humorous moments. I just loved her funny (internal) comments she'd make! Thompson did an outstanding job capturing her voice and bringing this character to life. Now that I've read the last book in the Stars Collide series, I'm looking forward to going back and reading the rest!

I reviewed this book for Revell.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Wrap Up June 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Janice Thompson did it again. Another book bringing love, laughter, and happily ever afters. This book was a wonderful way to wrap up the Backstage Pass series. I fell in love with the characters all over again. Tia has a depth to her character (and family) that is easy to relate to and I found myself cheering her on.

The end left me waiting to see what will happen with Brock and Erin. The plot of that story ran so wonderfully through the book, it was hard to close the back cover. I'm more enthralled with the stars, especially Brock, than I could have imagined.
I want to read ALL of Mrs. Thompson's books so I don't miss anything!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun story! June 8, 2013

This is the third book in the back stage pass series and a wonderful conclusion. There was humor, a few tears but a great uplifting story and series. Getting to know Tia and her family and friends was so much fun. If you enjoy a clean romantic comedy that leaves you with a smile in your heart then you will enjoy all 3 books in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved the series December 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This was a great series. I loved the writing style. It doesn't drag on, not overly descriptive, great story line. Loved the way she added in Brock from the wedding series and the couples from previous books in this series. I hated to see it end. Great storyline, great writing, great characters, great book!
