BOOK DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY PASSENGER LISTS!!,
By Karen Hicks "sinnabun" (Wilmington, DE USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Morton Allan Directory of European Passenger Steamship Arrivals For the Years (Hardcover)
I had been searching for this book ever since I read its poorly-written review because I thought it contained the passengers' surnames for each voyage. It arrived this morning, and I eagerly opened the book only to discover that there were NO passenger lists. Be advised that it is the National Archives that houses the lists, NOT this book, which is merely an aid to using the Archives. I suspect that the book is so difficult to locate because everyone thinks it has the passenger lists. The book does have some useful information, but it probably will not be what you're expecting. - Karen....disappointed

No the book does not list the passengers. If it did it would be a set of encyclopedias. What it does give you are the shipping lines, ship names, dates, ports of depature and ports of entry. Genealogy searching isn't easy. The National Archives in Washington D.C. has all the microfilm with the passenger lists. They will do a search for you (currently $...) if you can provide them something more than a name. Remember many names were spelled differently on the passenger lists from the foreign countries. For $... this book is an excellent way to help you narrow a genealogy search through the National Archives but don't expect to pluck out your grandfather from a list of millions of immigrants from all over Europe. It isn't that easy.
