5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have reference for a job seeker to get connected, March 25, 2000
By A Customer
In six quick no-nonsense pages you find out how the executiverecruiting process works and then you have a massive "yellowpages" style listing of the executive recruiting firms. You can find them by type of firm (retainer vs contingency), industry, job function. The listing, plus the advice that jobseekers should widely distribute their resumes to these firms, makes this a must-have UP TO DATE reference for jobseekers.

CD includes

> refs to books: good to get you started on an Amazon shopping expedition - but I recommend you rely on the Amazon reviews

> article representing an interview with a recruiter: a small amt of useful info on how this recruiter thing works these days

> software: SearchSelect software is on CD with passwd; demo gives you the flavor thru a slide show of screen shots. No surprises. To buy, call company with credit card info and you get the passwd. I didn't choose to do this.

Fantastic reference I plan to use. END

5.0 out of 5 stars Most comprehensive collection of headhunter contacts, January 19, 2000
I've been a retained headhunter for more than 3 years and routinely refer this source book for candidates who are looking for new opportunities. Not to mention it lists my key competitors. A must have for any executive making a change, or even selecting a firm to work with to fill an open role. Buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars great resource for changing careers, July 24, 2001

This review is from: The Directory of Executive Recruiters 2001 (Directory of Executive Recruiters, 30th ed) (Paperback)
I've used this book a few times and know many execs who regularly use it to keep headhunters up to date with their resume. Half of the pages are indexes to you can find recruiters by where they are, what industry they cover, or what function (finance, marketing etc.) The most useful index is the one with hundreds of different detailed specialties for the headhunters. Basically the way to use this book is to contact recruiters who specialize in what you do. Don't expect hundreds of replies: they only call if and when they have a match, and your resume needs to be word perfect. But it only takes one offer! Another useful thing is they list "contingency recruiters" separately - these are more useful for technical and mid-level jobs around $50-75k. Definitely use the current year's book to avoid wasting time on old addresses, like the other reviewer said. Best used in conjunction with a resume-writing advice book.
