Long Live the Worms!,
By
This review is from: Dirt (Audio CD)
As heard on Dr. Demento! The Arrogant Worms are a Canadian group that is finally starting to get some major recognition here in the United States. "Dirt" is their latest album (as of 17 March, 2000) as is one of the best to date. The Worms sing a fine blend of folk, rock, country, blues ... and several other styles that defy classification. They have a wonderful talent for harmonization and musical timing. But as great as they are musically, they really shine their best with their humour. From the story of the laziest railroad man to ever (sort of) lift a hammer to the tale of Johnny, who came home headless these songs are full of wonderful wordplay, odd situations and lyrics that are just plain funny! And you didn't even know that worms could sing, did you? Tracks On This CD: A Man Has Needs / Steel Drivin' Man / Great to be a Nerd / Celine Dion / Rocks and Trees / Gaelic Song / Wong's Chinese Buffet / I am Cow / Johnny Came Home Headless / Heimlich Maneuver / Scary Ned / Sponges / Log In To You / Winnebago (Special bonus track)

Digging in the Dirt,

This review is from: Dirt (Audio CD)
Another really fine Worms album. The 'classics' on this one are Celine Dion, Rocks and Trees, and I am Cow, but just as good are the less familiar Gaelic Song, Johnny Came Home Headless and Steel Drivin' Man. They throw in the usual spot-on country&western song (is it Trevor who has the C&W fixation?) and round out the album with a wide variety of good, solid, funny songs. I'm always impressed how they manage to get the 'sound' right for whatever style song they're singing, from bluegrass to caribbean, and as always, the singing is tight and the harmonies are right. And the lyrics can make you snort drinks out your nose if you're not careful.

The Dirt on Dirt...,
By Sean Symanczyk (Calgary A.B.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dirt (Audio CD)
I give this album 5 stars. It is not one of my favorates, but does have 3 out of 4 favorate songs. I love "A Man Has Needs" (we do, girls), and "I Am Cow". I like "Rocks and Trees", but mainly because during a dark depression the worms singled me out and made me feel good about myself. They have great plays on words, the4y have hidden puns (that alot of people miss), and are able to laugh at us and others with out being hurtful. One one of the space shuttle missions, the worms were played ("Dangerous" on a diff. album. They are fun and make great gifts.
