Vision canister is wonderful!,

This review is from: Dirt Devil 082600 Vision Bagless Canister Vacuum (Kitchen)
We've always owned uprights. This time I went searching on the internet for one -- looked at Eureka and Hoover, but settled on this wonderful canister for our house instead. It's got it all for less money: powerful (12 amps), bagless (you can see the dirt getting sucked in), lightwieight, quiet, hepa filter, quality build, variable speed control, retracting cord, works on carpet (powered brush) and hard floors, great price. It looks cool too. We opened it and immediately vacuumed the house and furniture, etc. We pulled up much more animal hair and misc. fluffies than our old powered eurka upright. I was sold right off when I could vacuum under the couch and bed -- without even moving them! It goes where no upright can go and is much lighter. It a very powerful 12 amp unit with lots of attachments right in the base of the unit (not on the wand like some Eureka's). We got lots of tools with it, including an extra hard floor tool. The powered brush head is nice because it has a separate foot button (separate from main power) so you can quickly turn the brush off and on as needed. Great product!!

Miserable former owner a Dirt Devil piece of junk,

WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! DIRT DEVIL DOES NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY ON THESE MACHINES. I bought my machine in January of this year. In June I think it was I vacuumed one day and the thing worked just fine, the next day when I pressed the power button it whirred as long as I held the button in but would not stay locked into "on." I called Dirt Devil and found out that there was only one repair center that was any where close to me and that it was an hour's drive in the opposite direction from where I normally do business. The thing sat around for a few months until I could get it to the repair center. When I went to pick the machine up I was presented with a bill for $39.95 for "cleaning" the switch. The repair center owner explained that if the switch had been defective the repair would have been covered under warranty but since it was merely dirty I had to pay for it. There is nothing in the owner's manual referencing a need to clean the switch and the trouble shooting guide in the reference manual does not mention a dirty switch as a possible reason for the machine to not run. I left the machine at the repair center and called Dirt Devil. From several conversations with them I gather that they don't consider it a design or manufacturing defect when the machine is operated according to instructions (I was very careful to always clean out the dust cup whenever it looked like it had any accumulation of dirt) and manages to suck enough dirt up into its inner workings to kill it. They were way more interested in telling me that if I didn't pay the owner of the repair shop that he would sell my machine. They did finally offer me the option of going for the two hour round trip drive to go pick the thing up and take it to a new repair center that has opened up and get a second opinion there or to pay to send it in to Dirt Devil. Since I have owned serveral vacuum cleaners that have lasted ten years or more each without ever quitting and since I have had such a miserable time so far with this thing I've decided I'm much better off without any of Dirt Devil's junk cluttering up my closet. I would highly recommend that you look elsewhere for a vacuum cleaner.

Not as good as it looks,

This was a great vacuum for the first month. It is true that the spinning brush helps pick up dirt. But what they don't tell you is that after a few uses it is virtually impossible to remove the dirt that gets embedded in the brush which hampers its use. It is very noisy so you'll need a pair of ear plugs. Also, the only way to do corners is to remove the motorized sweeper portion. This requires removing a plug that is an awkward place. Wear gloves when you do this or you will draw blood from your nuckles as I've done. The attachments are useless so you will need to use the hose without any attachments to get into corners and baseboards. The motorized sweeper doesn't work on bare floors. You can turn off the motor but it doesn't pick up much. When the motor is on, I end up chasing dust across the floor. The dust always wins. I have to use the hose without any attachments on the floor. A real back breaker. Also, you want to be very careful when emptying the canister. Dust will fly everywhere because not everything is trapped in the compartment. Needless to say, I'm looking for a new vacuum cleaner.

HATE this vacuum, manufacturer and service center,
By
This review is from: Dirt Devil 082600 Vision Bagless Canister Vacuum (Kitchen)
We bought this vacuum online in September 2002. It worked okay for a few months, but soon the plastic hose became brittle and ripped open. The company would not send a replacement hose under warranty and made us use a local service center for the repair. The service center hesitated to fix the vacuum and tried to strong-arm us into "trading up" for a "better machine" for several hundred dollars. We declined and insisted on the repair. A few days ago (less than a year later and still under warranty), the motor broke. We called the manufacturer for warranty repair and were told we must use the local service center again. We complained that this little vacuum shop was trying to force us to trade in the machine and spend hundreds on a new one, but Dirt Devil didn't care. The owner said he would fix the machine under warranty, but said we had to buy $100 in filters from him. Or, we could trade in this "inferior vacuum" for a new, expensive model at a discount. When we told him to just fix the motor and we would buy the filters elsewhere, he refused to fix the machine. He said that he had called Dirt Devil and they both decided that the broken motor was OUR FAULT and if we didn't buy the filter from him, that he would refuse to fix it. We are picking up the vacuum tomorrow and throwing this piece of [cheese] in the garbage. We will NEVER buy from Dirt Devil again and hopefully never have to deal with this service center either.

Definitely defeats the purpose of being bagless... I'd love my old bag vacuum back again! It's extremely messy to clean. Every time I vacuum I have to try to clean most of the dust that accumulates in the filter, or the engine whines and the suction is lost. I've gone through two replacement filters so far. It works great the first time you vacuum after replacing the filter, but quickly get clogged up again, and it's really difficult to get it clean enough to work properly again. My other complaints are that the plastic hose crimps constantly, the attachment compartment is poorly designed and hard to open, and the handle to the dust compartment is right below the handle to carry the vacuum, making it easy to try to pick it up with the wrong handle, and either drop the vacuum, or spill dust everywhere. I bought this based on the good reviews... now I wish I had payed more attention to the poor ones. Buyer Beware!

Great for pet lovers!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dirt Devil 082600 Vision Bagless Canister Vacuum (Kitchen)
I have been searching for a vacuum cleaner that can handle the pet hair generated by my three cats and long haired dog...and I've found it! After having the Dirt Devil for about a month, I'm thrilled with the awesome "sucking" power of this machine...it cleans dust and hair off of some of the hardest things (ie. lamp shades, stereo speakers, furniture, sliding glass door/screen door tracks) and does the best job I've ever seen picking up cat litter! I'm tough on vacuums and litter has tended to be the downfall of previous (more expensive) vacuums I've owned. The design of this machine doesn't allow it to become clogged up from litter. The vacuum is also light and I like that it is MUCH MORE QUIET than previous vacuums (something I was looking for). The "head" is narrow and flat and can fit under/between furniture I couldn't reach with my uprights...the retractable cord is also VERY handy. I'm impressed with how it cleans the several stairs in my house, and can imagine that it would be tough to drag the whole unit up a full flight of stairs. I would actually rate the Dirt Devil a little below a "5" for a couple of reasons, the filter/canister design could be a little easier to clean out...and storage of the unit is a little cumbersome, moreso than an upright. Oh, but it's so worth it! For the price and the sheer sucking-power alone, this is an excellent unit and I hope mine has a long life!

I was very hesitant about buying this vacuum...suspicious as I am, I didn't trust the reviews here. Then I read some Hoover reviews which blasted that product and so at least I know that Amazon isn't tossing the bad reviews (like some other sites do...).Anyhoo, this is one incredible little machine. My first canister vac, bought to replace an aging upright that smells like wet dog. This vacuum can really do it all. As far as I am concerned it does carpets every bit as well as even high end uprights....and so much more. Dare I say it: I am even having fun vacuuming now. After revacuuming my apartment with this vacuum, I filled the entire filter space with dust and crud which had previously been missed by my upright. Lots of groovy attachments to get into the nooks, and great for the car. And the power cord even rewinds ALL THE WAY...maybe that's just a novelty to me but I have never had that happen before with other vac's. The only problem I can see is that there is a significant amount of air leak around the joints in the wand, which are not quite what you would call "tight," but $0.10 worth of saran wrap fixed that little problem. I highly recommend this vacuum...support quality products and buy one.

Dirty, loud and ineffective,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dirt Devil 082600 Vision Bagless Canister Vacuum (Kitchen)
This is the worst vacuum cleaner I've ever bought and used and I do not recommend it, as even 159 USD (at the time I bought it)is too much for that model. The vacuum cleaner is extremely loud and noisy (even more noisy on wooden floor with its plastic wheels). Rather than sucking in the dirt, the revolving brushroll spreads it around. Cleaning the vacuum cleaner is a total nightmare, as by emptying out the dirt compartment into the trash can, I am covered by the dust particles and forced to breethe them in if I want to have it properly emptied. The filter in the dirt compartment is clogged with dust and dirt after each use.(I already bought the 3rd filter after using that vacuum cleaner for 6 months!!) I am still wondering why this vacuum cleaner has 2 dust filters, etc. , if there is no bag which keeps the dust when cleaning it. I do not recommend this product if you are an allergic or have asthma problems. I personally will go back and buy a vacuum cleaner with a proper dust bag and one without motorized revolving brushroll. This vacuum cleaner definitely needs improvement!

Dirt Devil 082600 Vision--an amazing vacuum for the price,

The Dirt Devil 082600 Vision Bagless vacuum absolutely rocks for the price. Some features that hooked me are that it:1) sucks up dog hair from a rug with little effort (WOW!), 2) comes with two heads (the one not pictured works the best) that are designed to allow the pole to go far under furniture, 3) allows for variable suction speed, 4) has an extra long cord with auto rewind button, and 5) glides easily around the house. What a vacuum!

Beats out our 600 dollar vacuum!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dirt Devil 082600 Vision Bagless Canister Vacuum (Kitchen)
I bought this vacuum on the advice of the reviews here, and it is absolutely great! I was nervous getting a canister instead of an upright, since I thought it would be unwieldy and tip over, as well as not deliver enough power. I was wrong on all accounts. I tried it out the first night, and after I figured out that you had to turn the attachment on seperately (why read the instructions?) I was off and running. My mother has a 600 dollar upright that was the competition at a vacuum-off that night, and this little mighty mouse beat it out. The head is smaller (width-wise) and flatter than an upright, so it fits into corners and under all furniture, and also those annoying crevices under counters. As others have stated-GREAT for hardwood. It's very powerful, but the sound isn't as loud as you would expect. Without a bag you can not only be environmentally savvy but see the fruits of your labor. And save some money, have you seen the price of bags lately? And the vacuum design was very well-planned, I put it togther easily in about 5 minutes. The vacuum is a dark champagne metallic-the picture doesn't do it justice-and very cool looking. It actually fits into a under kitchen cabinet in my new apartment! I am an experienced vacuumer, but a first-time vacuum owner, and all my research paid off in this purchase. Hopefully I can pry it out of my mother's hands when I move out.
