4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Canister Vaccum
I have mostly hardwood floors and a little carpet and not a lot of space to store a bulky vacuum cleaner. It was difficult to find a model that would transition easily between wood and carpet. This model is excellent on the hardwood and tile floors, but it is not the greatest on the carpet. The suction is great and easily adjusted from the handle. It is easy to dump the...

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible company
This is my first negative review on Amazon. The vacuum broke within the warranty period. I brought it to an authorized dealer who agreed that it wasn't a user problem and contacted the company. The company refused to pay saying it was the users fault for the handle braking, without even contacting me.

I went to their website to email them, but its one of...

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Canister Vaccum, February 4, 2007
This review is from: Dirt Devil 082700 Vision Turbo Canister Vacuum (Kitchen)
I have mostly hardwood floors and a little carpet and not a lot of space to store a bulky vacuum cleaner. It was difficult to find a model that would transition easily between wood and carpet. This model is excellent on the hardwood and tile floors, but it is not the greatest on the carpet. The suction is great and easily adjusted from the handle. It is easy to dump the dirt from the bagless collection area. It is a little small, so if fills up fast. The only other issue I have with this is that the cord is very short - so you have to keep replugging it in all over the house. Otherwise, a very lightweight, nicely designed vacuum. I am very pleased with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW way better than expected !, May 11, 2007
I just got this vacuum a few days ago. I was a bit skeptical when I opened the box, its much smaller and lighter than my heavy old eletrolux that had just died before I ordered this one, but it was here and I needed to vacuum the house, so I figured I may as well take it for a test drive. Assembly was a breeze just plug in the hose, snap on the wand and cleaning head. I did the carpet in my living room first, and was impressed with how much power it had. I stopped to read the instructions on how to empty it and tried that too. Very easy just press a button and lift it out, press another button and it opens to empty. I was shocked to see how much it had already picked up ! After that I went ahead and did the whole house. I really like that the variable power control is on the handle and not the canister, the tools and heads are easy to change, and the cord rewinds with the touch of a button. I'm glad I picked this one, its easier to use and picks up even better than my old vacuum. One minor drawback the container that traps the dirt is fairly small and will have to be emptied everytime its used, but its so quick and easy to do , I don't think thats a big deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!!!, March 10, 2006

I love this vacuum! I have only tile and hard wood floors so it is hard to find a lightweight vacuum that does a good job. I had the Blue dirt devil vision and loved that but my kids are rough on it when they use it so it was pretty beat up after 4 years so I bought this vacuum. This one is even better. Love the auto cord rewind. I love the tools. I also like the fact that I can vacuum small areas and get under beds easily. Dirt Devil makes the best canisters for non-carpeted floors by far and I have tried several and have returned several!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible company, June 18, 2009
This review is from: Dirt Devil 082700 Vision Turbo Canister Vacuum (Kitchen)
This is my first negative review on Amazon. The vacuum broke within the warranty period. I brought it to an authorized dealer who agreed that it wasn't a user problem and contacted the company. The company refused to pay saying it was the users fault for the handle braking, without even contacting me.

I went to their website to email them, but its one of those contact forms where the copy of the text is not forwarded. They gave me a standard response saying take it to an authorized dealer even though I said that I did in my original text. The email didn't respond directly to anything I had written. There was no name on the reply, so if I went back and sent another message to them I would have to start the process all over again.

I am in the process of filing complaint with the state and other agencies. Its not the money, but the principle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best product for wood and tile floors, May 30, 2006
This review is from: Dirt Devil 082700 Vision Turbo Canister Vacuum (Kitchen)
For the price you won't find anything better than this vac for hardwood and tile floors. The carpet cleaning attachment is ok for carpets but is difficult to use on high pile, works good on low pile berber. Suction is unbelievable, noise is average with a slight high pitch whine at full power. I've use Dyson (overpriced and cheaply made), Oreck(overpriced and cheaply made), and Miele (just plain overpriced) and none outperform this dirt devil on hard floors. Note, this will not work as a primary carpet vacuum.

3.0 out of 5 stars cute sporty vacuum, July 2, 2006

Size is wonderful, suction is fantastic, the hose is super flexible and that is fantastic. However, the attachments always fall of when I put them in " their " spot of rest . The rug attachment works ok, I recommend cleaning it out right away, a lot of hair can get caught up in it. The filter needs to be cleaned out often. ALL in ALL I do like it. Would I have bought a better one YES :) Why ! because I am a clean freak . HAPPY CLEANING :)

3.0 out of 5 stars Better description for product would have helped, September 30, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dirt Devil 082700 Vision Turbo Canister Vacuum (Kitchen)
I agree with many other reviewers that the product is not described well enough to understand what it does well and what it doesn't do well.

Pros:

- Good on bare floors
- Great waste emptying feature
- Good filter cleaning brush
- Relatively quiet
- Adjustable speed well-placed
- Fairly light weight

Cons:

- Cord is way too short for a house vacuum
- Air-powered vacuum head gets clogged with hair quickly and stops spinning. Very difficult to clean to get it re-started. Basically, this vacuum should be advertised for bare floors
only.
- Attachments are mounted too low on wand and fall off frequently (fixable)

Some reviewers have noted problems that were obviously manufacturer defects rather than actual problems with a properly-functioning unit (overheating, changing suction speeds when wand is flexed, etc.) Reviews like these should be about how the company responded in terms of full replacement or refund. There was one review like this that was not encouraging as to company response.

4.0 out of 5 stars great little vac, October 21, 2006
This review is from: Dirt Devil 082700 Vision Turbo Canister Vacuum (Kitchen)
I recently bought this vacuum and was surprised. My mom owns an electrolux and found that the DD vacuum works better. I have hard wood throught my house and some area rugs and it works awesome. The one thing I do not like and my husband also agrees- the tools are on the wand and that is a terrible place for them- do they even use the product after designing it!!! They always fall off and are a pain- i just put them in the closet and when I need them i go and get them. I love how lightweight the vacuum is and how the wand extends great for stairs and cleaning the car. I would have given it 5 stars if it were not for the tools always falling off the wand. Great vac very satisfied!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not perfect but close, April 24, 2008
This review is from: Dirt Devil 082700 Vision Turbo Canister Vacuum (Kitchen)
Disclaimer: This review is being written after the first day of use -- no representations on long-term reliability.

PROS (in the order that we noticed them): inexpensive -- particularly on Amazon, small, cute, lightweight, lots of attachments, easy to assemble, variable power control conveniently located on handle, quiet, excellent suction, clever pivoting head which follows contour of floor and baseboards, non-marring on hard wood floors, positive latching mechanism on dirt cup, auto-retractable cord.

CONS (in the order that we noticed them): attachments affix to wand and fall off, attachment mount on wand makes it difficult to slide wand under furniture, despite large wheels unit does not roll easily, dirt cup fills quickly.

We have mostly hardwood floors in our apartment and purchased the Dirt Devil after initially buying a Bissell upright for about the same price (big mistake). The difference between the two is like night and day. Every vacuum involves some compromises especially in this price range but the Vision is as close to perfect as we have seen.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dirt Devil 082700 Vacuum, August 9, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dirt Devil 082700 Vision Turbo Canister Vacuum (Kitchen)
Although this vacuum has great suction, I do have some observations to make. First, if you have stairs, I don't recommend this one. It ends up falling down the stairs every time you move. It's too wide to sit on the wheels, and standing up, it is top heavy, so it tips over. The second thing is that the attachments are supposed to attach to the body and handle. If you try to do that, they fall off, or worse, break off. It may be a good concept, but in practice, it just doesn't work. Thirdly, the wand does not attach to the handle, and the attachments do not attach to the handle or wand. They just push on. When they decide to fall apart, watch out. When they hit your feet, it hurts!!! Now, here is the biggie. The fourth problem I found has to do with pet hair. If you use the beater brush attachment, and you have dogs or cats, you will only use it once, as the hair gets tangled around the beater bar and the wheels, rendering it useless, until you take it apart and pull all the hairs out. So you will probably end up using the other wide attachment. The fifth problem is that this attachment swivels in all different directions, but it doesn't return to center. Every time you hit a furniture leg, the attachment swivels. Now it doesn't sit flat on the floor, and you have to straighten it with your hand. If you have a temper, you will be taking this one apart, too, to fix it after you slam it on the floor a couple of times.
Again, I will say that it has great suction. The high pitched squeal seems to be common to this type of vacuum, and if you are close to the cleaner, it probably won't bother you, but other people tend to get very irritated with it.
It is evident to me that Dirt Devil built what they thought was a great vacuum, but they didn't bother to have it tested in the real world. Relying on their reputation, they get your money. Will I buy another Dirt Devil product? Not likely.
