5.0 out of 5 stars THE EASY VACUUM!!
Just what you need a vacuum to be...easy to push, almost like the self-propelled models that retail for much more money. The headlight is very bright, allowing you to see exactly what you are sucking up even in the darkest corner. The carpet height settings are great and it even works well on a bare floor, not something you often find in a vacuum cleaner. It is...

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this piece of junk.
I own a medium-sized two-bedroom condominium and a big dog that sheds. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a vacuum cleaner so I bought the Dirt Devil Swivel Guide Upright, which promised to be a sturdy, efficient, yet affordable model. "12 amp Maximum Vacuum Power motor has 50% more suction at hose than conventional brands" says the packaging. What a joke. So far...

It is realatively light, easy to assemble (just pop the top on), and you are ready to go. The attachments come in handy for getting into the corners of old staircases, and removing pet hair from furniture. I highly recommend this vacuum cleaner to anybody looking for an EASY JOB!

So far I've vacuumed a bedroom, a small hallway, and about half of my living room and the vacuum has clogged THREE TIMES! These clogs are not easy to remove either. For the first clog, I had to get a coat hanger, twist it into a small hook, and then snake it down the hose to get all the dog hair and dirt out. The vacuum makes you wait a HALF HOUR before you can use it again! After waiting the required 30 minutes, I was able to use it again, but only for another 5. Yes, within 5 minutes it clogged once more. This time I had to take the bottom off and clean that out, getting dust and dirt all over the carpet where I had just cleaned. Of course, I had to wait another half hour to use it again. Then it clogged a third time. All this and I haven't even vacuumed half of my living space yet! I have no idea how long it's going to take me to vacuum this place. Maybe I should take Monday off from work so I can finish it. Even when the vacuum isn't sitting idle, you have to run it back and forth over an area about 5 or 10 times before it will pick everything up. And even then it won't pick up all the dog hair - on numerous occasions I was forced to reach down and pick the hair up myself. Wonderful. That pretty much defeats the whole purpose of having a vacuum cleaner doesn't it? The big selling point for this model is "Easy Push Swivel Casters," which Dirt Devil says makes it "The World's Most Maneuverable Upright!" Well that's good, because I'm about to maneuver it back to the store where I bought it. What a piece of junk. I guess you get what you pay for.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's good!, October 16, 2004

This is a good vaccum. The only reason anyone would have a clog is because they don't have it on the right carpet setting. If you would leave it right in the middle, I promise you will not have these problems. Anyway, it's a good vaccum. It does everything you want it to do. It sucks up dust and dirt very well. I have two birds that leave a mess everyday. With this vaccum, It cleanes the mess and leaves a good clean look, and sometimes smell too. This is a good vaccum. I highly recommend it, however, I would not recommmend it to people that don't read the instructions and don't change the carpet setting.

I've spent more time clearing out clogs then vacuuming with this piece of junk. The clogs aren't easily cleared either, you have to have an engineering degree to dismantle the entire thing before clearing it out. Suction isn't there either. You get what you pay for, I guess. I just purchased the Eureka Boss Smart Vac 4870 which is rated CR Best Buy - I'm sure I'll be more successful with it then this loser of a vacuum!

5.0 out of 5 stars It Works For Me, April 15, 2003

I don't know why others have had such problems with this vacuum, but I have found it to be effective and exactly what I needed. I live in a small condo and own one cat. In addition, I get a lot of dust in the place, especially during the summer months when windows are open. The Dirt Devil swivel glide is easy to move around the place, reaches ceilings and corners easily, and picks up pretty much anything I've encountered. I've vacuumed up a pretty good quantity of cat litter (the pine pellet kind) as well and have yet to experience a clog. I guess it depends on your situation, but for regular cleaning this vacuum does the trick.

2.0 out of 5 stars some swivel glide, September 3, 2002

it doesn't even swivel well. you do have to adjust the setting for it to pick anything up, and even that is subject to change. sometimes it wouldn't clean up anything unless on bare floor, other times it had to be the highest pile. who knows. and let me tell you how hard to find the replacement hepa filter??!! i have yet to find them (there are two pieces). you can't even buy it from the manufacturer it seems, they direct you to the store, and not one of them has had this in stock. so, buy a different one, a newer model maybe and they will have replacement features. the only good thing about this is the incredibly long hose (it extends) though the "lock" feature is [bad], it unlocks constantly, it does reach 2 thirds of the way up my stairwell (though i wish i had just bought one of those stair hugger ones).
i agree, don't get it.
