Equipped with a 7.2-volt battery that provides 50 percent more suction power than Dirt Devil's 4.8-volt machines, this bagless, cordless, rechargeable handheld vacuum quickly and thoroughly cleans up dirt around the house or in a motor vehicle, boat, or motor home. Two innovations offer cleaning convenience: First, permanently attached to the vacuum is a hinged crevice tool that flips into the nozzle for vacuuming in tight places like the space between cupboard and oven or around seat cushions and then flips back into a groove atop the vacuum. Second, below the nozzle is a retractable brush strip that pushes out at the touch of a thumb to loosen stubborn dirt so it can be sucked into the nozzle. The entire front half of the vacuum constitutes a large dirt cup that is easily released for emptying. The slim, lightweight vacuum is a compact 16 inches long and 4-3/4 inches wide and stores on its recharging base. It carries a three-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

Could be fine but no filters available,

I bought this hand vac from [local store] and am returning it today. On the plus side, it's more powerful than some others. The negatives are customer support and availability of filters. I knew that I should not have bought it when [local store] did not have filters available, but I was swayed by the power. A 14 minute wait on hold for DirtDevil customer service resulted in being told that the CSR could not locate the filter part number from the owner's instruction sheet, nor could she find the part through a search. I had already tried to order the filters online from DirtDevil, but they weren't available. Finally, the CSR offered to sell me another filter - guessing it might fit - with a 4 to 6 week delivery time. This hand vac would be dead by then without a filter change.

Just received the vaccuum but was disappointed to learn that the filters AND the battery are not replaceable. The filter looks kind of flimsy and I doubt it will hold up very well. Hopefully Dirt Devil will wise up and make the filters available for purchase. I tried to gather more product information before making the purchase by visiting Dirt Devil's website but since this model is so new it wasn't even listed.

I have used Black & Decker cordless vacs in the past and was tired of their short battery life. The 890 Dirt-Devil has proved to be more powerful and, with a 3-year warranty, it will outlast any Black & Decker model. Also, the filters for this model are now available for purchase on their website.
