Finally a vac that REALLY picks up!!!!,
By Susan Szczerba (West Chester, Pa United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dirt Devil 091210RC Platinum Force Bagless Upright (Kitchen)
After having several vacs through the years, I found this is the first one that actually feels like it is doing a good job. I have read complaints of it being hard to push (because it sucks the dirt up so hard) and dusty when you empty it (all canister vacs are dusty when empty them) but if you want something that actually picks up this is great. The fact also that it turns the brush off for hardwood floors is great. You don't want to try and vacuum throw rugs though cause it sucks them right up but no biggie, the way it picks up is well worth it. There isn't alot of filter parts to mess with and clean like other cannister vacuums either. Another great thing is when you pick up something big it doesn't get caught in the motor and blows the motor, it bypasses it (great feature with kids)!!! I think it is very reasonably priced for the job that it does!!! After having to clean up after kids and pets everyday this well worth it.

Platinum Force not so great.,
By Dana (Porterville, MS USA) - See all my reviews

After my very old hand-me-down Electrolux quit, I began shopping for a new vacuum. With a new long haired puppy in the house, I wanted one with strong suction power. I did some research online and decided upon the Dirt Devil Platinum Force. I could hardly wait to get it home. It only took a second to assemble and I tested it out. It was so hard to push and pull--much harder than I was used to, but it seemed to really have strong suction. The box claimed it had more suction power than any other upright, and it seemed to. I was thrilled with all the dog hair and dirt it picked up and decided to empty the canister. I noticed dog hair and dust all over the outside of the dirt canister! I knew that was a serious problem, and one that I could not ignore. I had decided to live with how hard it was to operate, but I could not live with particles escaping from the vacuum. I disassembled it and boxed it up. I got a full refund and now I am searching for a good vacuum once again.

Great suction - heavy to use,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dirt Devil 091210RC Platinum Force Bagless Upright (Kitchen)
The title says it all -- the Platinum Force has great suction... a necessity with double coated dogs, but the machine weighs a ton and is hard to maneuver unless you have the motor running AND the beater brush on. It's almost impossible to use to vacuum stairs without hurting yourself - I have to ask my 6ft3 husband do the stairs because he has extra leverage due to his height. It has also scratched my wood vinyl (Armstrong) floors, just pushing/pulling it to move it from one area of the house to another (not operating it). Cleaning the filter is a pain - like an earlier reviewer stated, it causes a major dust storm and I can not get all the dog hair from the crevices of the filter, even while banging it sharply (and repeatedly) against the inside of my large garbage can. Now after slightly more than a year of use, it smells... the HEPA filter is not effectively filtering particles and the exhaust puts out a strong doggie odor. And Dirt Devil does not have a replacement filter listed on it's web page. Neither the center filter nor the HEPA filter. An email to the web site, and if the response is in the negative, then this is the last Dirt Devil for me. I had two earlier models (including one of the best small canister vacs...unfortunately with a microscopic bag) and threw them out when I could no longer find replacement bags and parts...anywhere.

Great Vac worth the money.,

I bought this vac. about a month ago. This puppy can suck. I love how the on and off button is on the handle. Yes it is a little hard to push and pull. But what the heck you get a little exercise in your arms while you vac. It is easy to clean the canaster also. I love the vac and I have had my fair shares of vac.

Don't get "sucked" into purchasing this vacuum,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dirt Devil 091210RC Platinum Force Bagless Upright (Kitchen)
I purchased this vacuum after doing a lot of research. It wasn't my first choice but Consumer Reports rated it's performance the same as some of their top picks, so I bought it.Of course... as with everyone else, I vacuumed my carpet w/my Hoover Windtunnel Deluxe then with the new Platinum. I was amazed at how much it picked up. Heavy to push and not that great at sucking things up on the edges, I was still very satisfied....until....I was in my last room....I have a toss rug over my carpeting that has fringe on the end. The vacuum sucked up the fringe so I immediately turned off the roller, then the vacuum and laid it down. I unrolled the fringe, proceeded to vacuum when both the roller and the light on the switch for the roller wouldn't work. I called customer service. First they said this permanent belt could be broken and told me how to look. I looked.... it's a normal rubber belt that all vacuums have only thinner and not as wide. I was pretty shocked with that...and the fact that it wasn't broken. Needless to say...one use, vacuum breaks, it goes back!

Finally, a vacuum that does what it's supposed to!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dirt Devil 091210RC Platinum Force Bagless Upright (Kitchen)
I'd been on the hunt for a new vacuume for a few months and finally settled on this one. Several features that sold me were: bagless, hepa filter, and the fact that it doesn't use the on board hose or go through the motor. My old vac used the on board hose to suck everything up and it was always getting plugged up, plus it never really seemed to clean the way I liked. This new vac is amazing! It was easy to assemble and my area rugs have never looked so good. All my floors are ceramic tiles with area rugs thrown about. I also have dogs and cats so the hair is all over. This unit was pulling debris and hair out from under couches without me moving them and it pulled out all the hair out of my area rugs. I agree with another review that states that if you have small area rugs - such as a welcome rug - don't try to vacuume them since they'll just get sucked up. Everything goes through the front of the unit when you are vacuuming so things don't get caught in the motor or tubes when using the head. If you are using the on board hoses, the go through the back of the unit. Also, when you are using the hose and the unit is in the up-right position, the head turnes off so that all the sucking action is diverted to the hose - a great plus in my book. Yes, it can be messy to empty out the canister, but I do it outside in my large garbage can and don't have any problems with it. Yes, it is a little heavy and pulls, but it's well worth the results you get from it. I love this vacuume cleaner and would recommend it to anyone.

Awesome Upright,

We just moved into a house, and used our old vacume till it finally gave up. Wen bought this Dirt Devil and I was amazed at how much more dirt it picked up that our electrolux. After vacuming our house for the firts time with it, we had to empty the container due to all the dirt, hair, dust, etc. that the old vacume was missing. After that, I could not believe how much cleaner it got our carpets. It is simply the best vacume cleaner for the money. No more bags to buy, and also the filter traps so much dirt, you can't smell any animal hair or anything while vacuming.

It conked out after the third use,
By A Customer
This review is from: Dirt Devil 091210RC Platinum Force Bagless Upright (Kitchen)
I bought it for my dormroom floor. A lot of research was put into the decision because we were buying the vacuum for over 40 people to use. It had a great warranty and great reviews and we wouldn't have to pay to replace any bags, so we decided to get it. However, after the third use it wouldn't turn on again. The manual said that we had to get it serviced, which was too inconvenient for us so we took it back to target in person. All in all we lost [was] shipping. I'm sure the dirt devil warranty would have covered the repair, but the fact that it only worked three times made us decide to find a different vacuum or to not get one in the first place.

Do Not Waste Your Money on this DOG!!!!,

This is my first and last Dirt Devil. I bought one of these 2 years ago, believing it was one of the best out there (thanks to Dirt Devil's superior advertising folks!). Well it has fallen apart rather nicely since then. The handle has broken off. The part that holds it in the upright position is now broken. The suction is terrible. The filters cost alot of $$$ and are hard to find. And, last but not least, all the rubber hosing that connects the motor fan to the base unit has cracked, making this a virtually worthless machine in only 2 years. Better Luck Next Time Dirt Devil!

Not "for the dogs",

Pros: absolutely the best suction you can find...it will suck up EVERYTHING.Cons: well see below... If you have animals, do NOT buy this vac. I have had it over a year now and although it has great suction it is so hard to empty the canister that I think it isn't worth having. Also the design is poor. The filter should not be in with all the dirt and hair! Trying to clean that is a nightmare and as another reiewer said you can not get the hair and dirt off.It ends up being a smelly mess and now if I vacuum with it my house smells !! You are not supposed to clean the filters and replacements are like 30.00 and take 2 weeks to arrive. It is very hard to push and the caster wheels are more of a pain than a help. However, I must admit even though I have now replaced this vacuum it does have the BEST suction of any vacuum I have ever owned including my new Bissell lift off bagless. |
