Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Cross a cordless handheld vacuum cleaner with a standard upright, and this is what you get: a light (9 pounds), full-length vacuum with a cord, no wheels, and no bag. Surprisingly, perhaps, the one standard feature the Powerstick retains is a side tube and onboard brush for off-the-floor jobs, such as cleaning drapes and sucking up cobwebs. Apart from the transparent, bagless dirt collector up front, which you simply unsnap and empty out like a tiny trash can, the Powerstick's most notable feature is the aggressive wedge design of its main cleaning head--ideal for the next time you spill flour right in a corner. At just under 27 inches tall, the Powerstick can be stowed away in a broom closet when not in use. --Richard Farr

2.0 out of 5 stars What a disappointment!, April 23, 2002

I owned an older version of the Dirt Devil stick vacume and it was pretty good except that it kept falling over and finally broke. I figured that this newer version would be the same, if not better, but I was wrong. The most annoying thing about the machine is the cord holder. On the old model you could just wind the cord around hooks. On this model there's this ridiculous clip thing that your supposed to clip the cord to - but you have to wind the cord into a loop first. The next most annoying thing is that it's very awkward to use the attachments. You pop off the floor attachment and connect the hose to the bottom of the unit and then have to hold the vacume horizontally by another handle. I do, however, find that the unit is very good for quick cleaning and sucking up balls of pet hair, but it doesn't do much beyond that.

1.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for is right!, February 21, 2002

I bought this primarily for use with wood floors, and to use as a more portable cleaning device in conjunction with our large upright. This thing is the worst! The filter clogs instantly, and is a mess to clean. The suction is non-existent - it doesn't even pick up a piece of thread from a rug! Both of the brushs at the bottom of the headpiece have broken off. While it touts itself as great for wood floors, I found it scratched them, and could no longer use it on them -- which is why I bought it in the first place! The cord is all over the place because there is no bottom hook to wrap it around. Mine too is in the goodwill pile, but I almost feel sorry for the person that gets it!

1.0 out of 5 stars New designs don't mean it's improved., February 2, 2002

We've owned our Dirt Devil for 5 years with 4 little kids. After too many drops(doesn't stand upright on it's own), it broke beyond repair. We bought this new designed one hoping it would be just as good. We are very disappointed.

It's too heavy! Check other vacuums. This one is much heavier than competitors. It doesn't pick up the same as it used to either. It also is very bulky and hard to push around. The weight is not distributed right.

It now sits in our closet and have even tried to give it away to people. After letting family and friends use it to see if they would like it, the answer is always NO! I guess we will end up giving it to Goodwill.

The cord used to be a wrap around style. This newer design one has a clip on the back that you are supposed to wrap the cord in a lasso type hold and stick it into this much too small clip. Very ackward and time consuming.

We are still shopping for a replacement. Sweeping with a broom into piles and vacuuming it up with a Black and Decker Hand Vac works the best right now.
