The Dirt Devil Featherlite Bagless Upright gives you more convenience, more power, and less weight in a compact design. A powerful 12 amp motor gives you the suction power you need to clean effectively and with ease. The lightweight design makes it easy to push and easy to carry. Comes with HEPA filtration and a no hassle clean release bottom-empty dirt cup so you have minimum interaction with dirt, dust, and debris. Plus, the fold down handle allows you to store it almost anywhere.

Despite the lightweight and compact design, this unit features an extended 25 foot long power cord for added convenience. The brush head is large enough to offer a 13” cleaning path, so you can cover more ground with each pass. The multiple included tools means you can easily clean and reach all of those hard to get spots around the house. The powered hand tool can give you a new weapon against pet hair, and can be used on carpet and upholstery.

A bagless design and a lifetime filter mean that this vacuum will have dramatically lower upkeep costs compared to the average bagged vacuums of the past. A HEPA filter captures 99.9% of household allergens to help improve your indoor air quality, and the adjustable brush roll allows you to easily transition between carpeting and hard floors. The scuff-guard protects your walls and furniture from those inevitable bumps while allowing you to get close enough for a superior clean along edges and along furniture.

Customer Reviews

So have to do that twice to vacuum my house.
rustygrey
It can't pick up anything smaller than a feather: dust, dirt, etc. is blown about at the front of the vacuum, pushing it forward and never actually sucking it up.
Casey H.
I would like to just return it and go buy something else.

Is it too much to ask for a vacuum to pick up stray pieces of paper, not to spit dirt out the back, and be light? This one fits the bill. I owned a dirt devil featherlite 9 years ago but after my husband touched it after 8 years, it didn't suck much anymore. Up till then it worked great. So I bought a vacuum that cost triple this vacuum thinking more expensive so it should be a wonderful vacuum. NOT! It didn't work well at all. Wouldn't pick up papers and kept shredding paper over the carpet, wouldn't suck it up. It also kept spitting dirt out the back on hard floors, or at least every direction except up the canister. I had a herniated disc for 10 months, every time I used the expensive vacuum, it was so heavy and bulky it kept throwing my back out more and kept me down for a week in pain. I was so happy to see kohl's had the new improved version of my old featherlite. It works as good if not better than the last one I had. It sucks really well. I have fun watching the dirt starting to move toward the vacuum before I even get to it. No spitting out the back at all! It is really lightweight but not as wide as other vacuums. The air coming out blows up so items on the refrigerator get blown off sometimes. I don't mind. This is perfect for my 1400 sq foot house and my back is thanking me. Even if I had a larger house, I wouldn't hesitate to use this one. It may take me a few minutes longer but is so worth it. This one even fits nicely in my small coat closet, unlike the more expensive vacuum. I had to force, pull and tug it in. Needless to say the bulky expensive vacuum is gone for good! Just because a vacuum costs more, doesn't mean it's better! I highly recommend this product!

OK, first off one of the top reviews says it takes 13 steps to empty. Mine doesn't, it takes TWO! One push the button on top to release the cansiter, two press the button on the side of the canister to open the bottom (over your trash can of course :P). I added pictures illustrating these buttons, plus a picture of all of the dirt! Also, do not expect Dyson fit and finish out of this vacuum. Its in a COMPLETELY different price category. That being said, what it excels at it is being the best vacuum cleaner I have used short of a Dyson. I'll list the pros and cons of this vacuum now; then since the devil (sorry for the pun) is in the details I'll expound on them a bit afterwards.

Pros:
Suction! (Insert off-color joke here)
Price/value (I paid half a c-note for it at BB).
Easy to empty
Getting deep down dirt
Power
Cleaning ability
Useful tools (for the most part)
Rubberized handle
Size (very small and the handle folds down for easy storage in a coat closet)
Literally removed around 1 cubic foot of dirt and dust bunnies from the carpets of my 950 sq ft apartment (which were vacuumed recently).
Carpets feel almost new.

Cons:
FisherPrice-type Plastic (feels cheap). I docked it 0.5 star for this.
Hinge joint is a bit loose
Edge cleaning ability (you will need to use the crevice tool to get down into the edges). I docked it another 0.5 star for this
Plastic is very staticy so dust sticks to it.

What this vacuum does is be one of the best vacuums I have used under two hundred bucks. Period! It really gets down into the carpet pile to get dirt out. I couldn't believe how much dirt I was getting out of the carpet. Easily 1 cubic foot of dust and dirt and we are very clean people so this was disgusting!

We live in 38' fifth wheel trailer. Could not believe how much dirt was present in rugs until we used this great sweeper. This was after cleaning with Oreck. Easy storage, great price, can't praise it enough.

It was not the most expensive machine but I still find the overall design quality lacking and ease of emptying debris and cleaning filter to be extremely cumbersome, messy and time consuming. Huge negative as I have two cats and I pick up a lot of fur so the filter needs cleaning often. I HATE handling and having to wash out the filter every other time I use the machine. The tools seem cheap and fall out of their holders often. I can't stand how the stretchy hose likes to pull back when extended to use the tools. The air powered brush tool is also a joke. The brush stops spinning with the slightest bit of pressure on any surface. It is light, compact and seems to have descent suction after about 6 months of use but the issue of emptying dirt out and cleaning the filter is causing me to have to purchase another filter so I can rotate them when I need to wash one out and let it dry. That being said, you get what you pay for. I would say it's okay especially if you have a small apartment and don't mind the dirt cup issues but keep your expectations reasonable for it's price point.

We've owned this turkey for six months. Obviously designed by hung-over orangutans who had previously studied accounting.

For starters, the roller brush is going 100% of the time even when you're using the wand, so watch out -- the body will inevitably pull along and lodge on something it can eat while you're not watching, jam the roller brush, and burn through the belt in a few seconds. Smell the rubber! Then you have no roller brush action, so buy plenty of spare belts. Next, the canister thingie is made of about six parts that do all come apart but you have to disassemble it constantly because fluff packs up in there and then won't come out, or dirt packs itself into the small spaces, and all that cloggage messes up the air flow which, like in a Dyson, is supposed to be critical to how it works.

And speaking of air flow, there's a gap at the collar between the column tube from up inside the filter, and the exit down into the motor. Guess where the air and dirt decide to take a shortcut, as soon as airflow slows a bit up above? So then there you are using a vacuum cleaner that filters ALL the dirt using the keep-rocks-out-of-the-motor filter (about the size of a quarter, with holes a BB could navigate) and the supposed HEPA filter on the outflow from the motor (ours was installed folded over so it let most of the air out unfiltered anyway). Net result, within 5 minutes you've got all the suction of a baby mouse.

Yes, it does blow air out in front of it as some reviews of these things point out, but darlin', that's the least of your worries. An excellent machine for anyone who wants to push around something that makes a lot of noise but doesn't actually clean anything.
