Amazon.com Review

An inexpensive alternative to brooms, dustpans, and bending over to get at the last of the dirt pile, the cordless, bagless, yet surprisingly effective Dirt Devil Broom Vacuum is well suited to heavy-duty sweeping and vacuuming on hard-surface floors of all types. Where it really shines, though, is for quick touch-ups-the dog-hair tumbleweeds and stray Cheerios of everyday life. 60% more powerful than the Broom Vacuum's last incarnation, its 9.6 volt motor has plenty of juice for sucking up debris from tile, laminate, hardwoods, and linoleum. Users with bad backs will appreciate the foot-activated on/off switch, and at just 3-1/2 pounds, without cumbersome power cords to trip over, the unit maneuvers with admirable ease. It's easy to see when the transparent dirt cup is full, and the canister snaps off easily for emptying. Brushed-edge cleaning extends the unit's reach, and the 10-inch-wide nozzle feels more like a broom than a skinny stick vacuum. To recharge, simply plug into the included adaptor when storing. The Dirt Devil Broom Vacuum is not intended for wet spills or carpeted surfaces, but for dry messes, crumbs, and dust, it's a solid value and so easy to use that you just might find yourself sweeping the kitchen floor more often. The unit measures a compact 21 by 13 by 1-1/2 inches and is covered by a one-year warranty. < I>--Mary Park

4.0 out of 5 stars I Hate Floors, November 2, 2005

Health scare paranoia aside, does the product work? None of the quick-clean floor products substitute for old-fashioned scrubbing on hands and knees. At least, none that I've come across.

But if you appreciate the convenience of a Swiffer-type product and ease of a hand-vacuum, but dislike the cost of Swiffer-type refill papers and the sad limitations of a hand-vac, you might find this a worthwhile quick-fix to the problem of labrador-created dust bunnies and toddler-inspired cracker crumbs.

The Rechargeable Broom Vacuum is just that -- a Dust Buster and broom all in one. Good suction and holds the charge nicely, too. A negative point because unlocking the dirt container from the motor is a bit cumbersome. On the other hand, unlike my hand-vac, I don't actually have to stick my hands into the accumulated 'ick' to empty the container.

Anything to avoid pulling out a vacuum cleaner, this product does exactly what I hoped and expected it would do. It doesn't polish the floors. It doesn't do rugs, curtains or upholstery. And while a broom and dust pan may offer the convenience of operating without an electrical charge, my back doesn't so for that, I give this one a thumb's up.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for some purposes, December 12, 2005

This review is from: Dirt Devil MBV2030PNK Rechargeable Broom Vacuum, Pink (Kitchen)
Bought the Broom Vac once we purchased our home with hardwood and tile floors (and no carpet). The one thing you notice quickly with such a home is that hair balls (we have a dog and cat) accumulate rapidly and continuously. The next thing you realize is that sweeping such "tumbleweeds" into a dustpan can be like trying to catch a feather in mid-air.

The Broom Vac is very adequate at sucking up these hair balls. However, you will still find yourself constantly pulling accumulations of those not sucked into the bin out of the bristles.

Also, the "sucking" power is not very great and you must hold the broom almost completely perpendicular to the ground to suck any items other than dust.

Expect to cover 1500 sq ft on a single charge for non-regular (every square foot covered) cleanings. 3000 sq ft for those who vacuum regularly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little vacuum!, May 22, 2006

Mel K "Laroque" (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews

Well, I don't know about dirt, rocks or some of these other items people are trying to pick up with this $50 broom, but we have a virtual carpet of pet hair at home thanks to our dog, and after using this broom we can finally see our floors again. We'd tried mops and those swiffer products to no avail, but this baby picks everything up in a heartbeat with little effort, and cleanup is a snap (the reviewer that said it was cumbersome - what are you doing? press the button, bottom comes off, empty and snap back on. done.)

Now, will it work as well as a serious vacuum? Of course not. "Everything" does not mean every single thing. It's a $50 broom-vac combo, come on - not a $500 Dyson model. It sounds like some people expect all vacuums to work alike.

For basic dust, papers, and certainly lots and lots of pet hair, this puppy more than gets my vote.
