Product Description

Dirt Devil Roommate Robotic Vacuum Cleaner
RoomMate the Dirt Devil Robotic Vacuum available in Dirt Devil’s signature red sweeps and vacuums hard floors at the touch of a button. Simply place in an enclosed area, switch it on, and it does the cleaning for you.

The hands-free, hardworking robot thoroughly sweeps and vacuums tile, linoleum, and wood flooring with ease. The sleek design allows RoomMate to move under furniture, beds and around obstacles. Cleaning is maximized through three automatic and continuous cleaning patterns.

First RoomMate randomly covers the room from wall to wall cleaning until the job is done. Next it moves into a circular pattern cleaning larger open areas. Finally it moves into perimeter pattern to clean along baseboards and edges to sweep where dirt collects. The robotic vacuum moves automatically and continuously through these cleaning patterns. Leave it in an enclosed area and let it do the work for you so you can get on with your day.

The RoomMate Robotic Vacuum works best in enclosed areas with a 50 minute runtime to clean kitchens, baths, and other hard floor surfaces. The compact design is ideal to clean beneath furniture and stores easily. Plus, the spinning brushes help to leave no corner un-touched utilizing the three simple steps for one superior clean.

With a sleek simple design and easy to read light indicator, you’ll know when it is fully charged, needs charging or when you need to empty the dirt and dust collected. With a 4 hour charge time you are able to charge quickly and begin use again. For business professionals to stay at home moms the Dirt Devil RoomMate robotic vacuum is ideal for those on the go.

Dirt Devil Roommate Robotic Vacuum Cleaner

2.0 out of 5 stars Meh. Unimpressed. December 17, 2011
If you're in the market for a robot vacuum this one sits on both the low end of pricing and features. The unit itself is smaller than a roomba, slower than a roomba, and is not effective at all on carpets or area rugs. This is a very stripped down robot vac.

Pros:

Does a particularly good job in edging with two side sweepers and a solid wall/edge follow function.

Inexpensive compared to the roomba or neato

Smaller than it's roomba & neato counterparts.

Decent sized dustbin so fewer stops to empty.

Quieter than both the Roomba & Neato.

Can pick up larger debris because it vacuums via opening without a brush blocking the intake.

Cords, etc don't affect it much due to the lack of brush. Less work prepping the house for vacuuming.

Suction power seems close to what a Roomba can pick up, the Neato is more powerful.

More responsive than the roomba when it bumps into a wall or piece of furniture.

Cons:

No scheduling features.

Manual charging via cord rather than dock.

No means to exclude areas other than placing physical barriers down, doesn't use any sort of lighthouse or magnetic strip technology.

Larger clumps of dust and debris will clog the vacuum tube.

No rotating brush, it's similar to having a dustvac vacuum your floors. On the plus side there's no brush to get tangled.

Only works on hardwoods/tile/laminate, not for carpeted floors or area rugs.

Doesn't have the strength to hoist itself up on to area rugs without getting stuck.

Without a charging dock just runs until it dies and you'll have to rescue it from where it dies.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good on floors, corners, and under low furniture items. January 29, 2012
Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Length: 0:31 Mins
If you intend to use this on floors only, it is a decent product. It picked up most of the dirt and items on my large kitchen floor (watch the video to see what it did and didn't pick up).

It also was able to go under areas that my normal vacuum doesn't, so it managed to pick up a bunch of dust bunnies as well. Unfortunately, the dust bunnies tend to clog the small intake nozzle and I had to clean it out several time(once again, this is shown in the video). If you don't unclog it, it will faithfully roam across the floor not picking up a single thing. It would be nice if there was some kind of alert (beep) that let you know the nozzle was clogged. There is a beep that lets you know if it gets stuck on something.

For the record, I don't anticipate having so many dust bunnies in the future since this little guy can get under low furniture items so well. In fact, I just ran it again today and it did my kitchen without clogging at all.

It also cleans well along the edges of the floor and under the cabinet overhangs. It was able to move from the floor to the very low indoor/outdoor carpet rug I have on the kitchen floor under a desk.

I did run this in my carpeted rooms as well since it does go under items like beds extremely well. Once again, it picked up a bunch of dust bunnies--but not much else was in the dirt cup after it finished. I really can't believe this could clean carpets very well since the only brushes it has are the whisker like thin brushes that sweep in a horizontal fashion. This works well to sweep the items that are sitting on the surface of the floor into its pathway, but any dirt that is lower than the surface would be pretty much unaffected.

It took about four hours to charge, and then it ran for about 70 minutes each time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Little red snuffles works fine December 23, 2011

I like to have this little gadget around. It keeps the carpet in the bedroom nice and goes and cleans under the beds. I also use it in other parts of the house and use a broom stick to restrict it to the kitchen or dining area. It needs baby sitting, as it stops at the slightest resistance. This is good, because therefore it does not get tangled up in electical cords. The filter is easy to clean and the brushes have never become clogged. We don't have pets and I clean up spills with a whisk and dust pan. We also have a shop vac and an upright and still use these to dust the baseboards and get the cobwebs and if I want to get an area done right now. I will buy a second filter assembly to let the other one dry if I clean the filter with water.

2.0 out of 5 stars very limited use February 16, 2012
Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I was excited to get this, the idea of two brushes seemed like an advantage over my very loved Roomba. I know that the price of this Dirt Devil product is a fraction of Roomba's, and the stated uses are more limited, but thought I could use it for my upstairs hallway and spare room. Well, when I opened the box, I found an easy to assemble machine. Soon I was ready to turn it on. Well, I hit the switch, and this little vacuum started spinning in circles. Hmmm, not what was supposed to happen, as I read the instructions, but making larger circles is one of its moves, so I thought it would start spreading out. A few minutes later, I returned to see it still spinning in a very small circle. I thought maybe a wheel was stuck, but no. I checked to see if I could have put the battery in wrong, but not possible. I decided to call the company, and things went downhill from there. The representative asked me a few questions, and then told me she doesn't know why it is doing that. There was no suggestion to return it, no suggestions on what to do. Finally, I told her that I was given the product to review, to give her a chance to help me make it work. Nope, she still said she couldn't help me. If I HAD purchased it, it would have gone back for a refund, since I would be reluctant to deal with a company with such poor customer service. When my husband got home, since he is handy, I asked him to have a look. He took it apart and found a wire was unconnected, I would imagine if the company looked at it they could have found this. So then I tried it again, and wow, it started moving in the patterns described. Here's where there were some advantages over the roomba. It is a little lower to the ground, so it can go under more furniture than roomba.... Read more ›

It's cute. It goes around and sweeps up a little bit, but your floor needs to be fairly clean already. This is mostly a maintenance tool--not a vacuum.
