Great cleaner for the money,

After several years of having a cheap-o bissell carpet cleaner (that tore up after 30 or 40 uses), i decided to try this dirt devil. i have used it and let several friends use it and it delivers. it is much like the bissell in design, but has two advantages over the bissell: a bigger tank for the cleaning solution and water and a handle on the dirty water tank that allows for easy removal and disposal of the water. it cleaned the carpet much better than the bissell as it has a rotating brush as opposed to the flat one on the bissell. i have two spots that are heavily soiled that it didn't get up, but the rest of the carpet looks brand new. i probably could pre-treat those tough spots.
my only complaint is that the dirty water tank must be emptied when it is less than half full. the cleaner makes a whining noise to tell you when to empty it and it starts whining after you've done about 150 square feet. with the easy to remove and empty dirty water tank, this isn't that much of a problem but prevented me from giving this unit five stars.

This is my second Dirt Devil steam cleaner -- I bought my first one at a Job Lots store years ago for $30 and got my money's worth out of it. When it finally died, I bought the Bissell Quick Steamer, which oddly enough, has great reviews here. But it just could not clean up the dog and puppy stains on my carpet, I have three bullmastiffs that I have raised from puppies, who still occasionally have accidents. So I bought the Dirt Devil Vision, and it immediately cleaned up my carpets like new! Every time I think I have a stain that will finally beat it, it always gets them out quickly and easily. For the price, you really can't beat it. It has a much wider track than the Bissell so I can clean much more quickly, too. I highly recommend the Dirt Devil brand for steam cleaners.

I bought this when I was pregnant so we could spot clean messy areas when the baby got here. So far we have had it about 9 months and I've used it as a spot cleaner (never on large areas) about 12 times. The biggest problem with the steamer is that it's hard to clean. There are several small nooks and crannies in the "dirty water" compartment that collect dirt and hair and are too narrow to clean. Also, the filter in the dirty water reservior basically began to tear and dissolve early on. After only a few uses, it not only broke apart, but it also seemed to rot/mildew, creating a horrible dead fish smell. It does the job when it comes to cleaning carpet, but the product itself is a huge pain to clean and maintain. I don't recommend it...
