Format: Paperback
Dirty Blue Voice contains very rich, voluptuous, and audacious poems. The book is divided into two parts, Vox and Dirty Blue. The Vox consists of 9 poems that are more abstract in their content and in their structure. One of the poems even has stanzas of one word lines that lose you in their purpose. Dirty Blue consists of 12 poems and this is where we learn the most about Harriss, her motives and perspectives. All of the poems in this section have a much stronger underlying meaning and principles as if she really tries to tell us something through her poetic verses. Her style is risky, dirty, and very dynamic. In "At the Bone & Worm Inn" she talks about her sex life and her lover in a very explicit manner, but it works, it is interesting to read, and frankly after this poem I became more interested to read the rest of her collection. It is profane, but her profanity is used to explore new life concepts and morality, not to just shock the reader.
