Book Description

Jesus Creek Mysteries November 1, 2000
Dan McClain bought the old Vickers farm hoping to find a peaceful retreat in Jesus Creek, Tennessee, but the town’s unique reality hits home when skeletons start popping up in McClain’s yard, followed by the murder of a beloved local resident.

Are the crimes connected? Amateur sleuth and genealogist Delia Cannon is determined to unearth the answer. As ghostly remnants of a long ago murder linger in the shadow of present day tragedy, Delia’s passion for truth draws the attention of a killer who isn’t about to let a decades-old crime come to light.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Deceptively labeled ‘comedic mysteries’ the Jesus Creek novels have always carried an extra layer of meaning. -- Quantum South Literary Reviews

From the Author

Flair and Macavity Award-winner Deborah Adams' first novel, All The Great Pretenders, was nominated for the Agatha Award in 1993. Since that time, Adams has earned a reputation among readers, critics, and booksellers as a talented author who consistently produces a more compelling story with each new novel.

A seventh-generation Tennessean, Adams brings to her work an appreciation for the lore and traditions of the South. Combining her sharply perceptive observations of human nature with a biting and slightly warped wit, she creates satirical novels that gently tweak the reader's conscience while mercilessly tickling the funny bone.

She has recently begun studying tap, jazz, and ballet. In her first year of dance instruction, Deborah was prohibited from performing in the recital by the vehement protests of her seven-year-old classmates. In 1999, however, she and the other members of The Dance Center's first year adult class will be the intermission entertainment at the spring recital.

In addition to writing, Adams is actively involved with a domestic violence prevention organization. In 1995, she competed in her first horseback endurance race, completing the course under particularly grueling conditions (i.e. the fringes of a hurricane). She did not finish in last place.

Adams served on the Mystery Writers of America Edgar Committees (Best Novel) in 1993 and (Best Short Story) in 1996, and is a member of The American Crime Writers League and the Writers' World Order.

4.0 out of 5 stars Deborah Does it again, December 30, 2000
This review is from: All the Dirty Cowards (A Silver Dagger Mystery) (Paperback)
Having read all of Deborah's other books, I had some idea of what to expect and was NOT disappointed. The characters in the present and the past were both animated and interesting. They were funny while still being realistic. Whatever subject Deobrah is enthused about at the moment (This time it was genealogy.) always comes through in her books. When she was into endurance riding, the book was horsey. Now she traces the ancestors of Jesse James-and gives some websites to start you tracing your own family. The only criticism I have is that the plot was a little light and plagued with coincedences, but youll never notice that while you're reading it. Just go with the flow and enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful, entertaining and layered with meaning, December 18, 2004

Deb Adams is my favorite modern mystery writer, bar none. And she does not disappoint in this great book in her Jesus Creek series. Her books often have a tongue-in-cheek feeling, with an underlying stream of consciousness that reflects social standards and Deb's own irony in play. Her fascination with geneaology and Jesse James is terrifically played out in All the Dirty Cowards and I can't wait for the next book! Get writing Deb!

5.0 out of 5 stars History and Mystery!, December 14, 2010
This review is from: All The Dirty Cowards (Paperback)
This is my favorite Jesus Creek Mystery, and I am delighted to see it is available again! A clever, often tongue-in-cheek Southern mystery, Deb weaves a tale that keeps you spell-bound. AND laughing!

The old Vickers home has a new owner, who is going to breathe new life in the tired, rundown Victorian farmhouse. But in the digging of a fish pond, a pile of bones emerges, and the confusion begins!

Ms. Adams intersperses the story of the old Vickers Place with excerpts from the Memoirs of Jeremiah Vickers. A mild, meek man, he rides into Jesus Creek to take on the job as school master in the bustling community. Each time we read a snippet of the memoirs, we are closer to solving the mystery of the bones found in modern times.

The characters, both modern and fictionally-historical are beautifully depicted - Delia, the amateur sleuth, her significant other, UFO enthusiast Roger, and their community of friends keep the story moving, and the tale intriguing. Adams provides some great historical footnotes and genealogy. Do yourself a favor, and visit Jesus Creek today!
