4.0 out of 5 stars songs you can dance to
The Dirty Dancing Havana Nights Soundtrack brings in a new combination of music that includes African-Cuban rhythms to Latin Ballroom beats. Each tract brings in a beat that makes you move.

Tract One: Dance Like This by Wyclef Jean featuring Claudette Ordiz, starts the album off with an outrageous beat that makes your heart pound.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I was expecting
First I'd like to say I LOVED the movie, and yes it did make you want to get up and dance. I like the CD, I don't however think the two go together. I bought the soundtrack thinking it would be the songs I loved in the movie and was suprised to find it sorely lacking. It doesn't have the same feeling as the movie. I'm hoping they release a second one that has more of...

4.0 out of 5 stars songs you can dance to, September 6, 2005
This review is from: Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (Audio CD)
The Dirty Dancing Havana Nights Soundtrack brings in a new combination of music that includes African-Cuban rhythms to Latin Ballroom beats. Each tract brings in a beat that makes you move.

Tract One: Dance Like This by Wyclef Jean featuring Claudette Ordiz, starts the album off with an outrageous beat that makes your heart pound.

Tract Two: Dirty Dancing by the Black Eyed Peas do a tremendous job to make this song come alive with a combination of Spanish and English lyrics. Dirty Dancing is such an appealing song to dance to.

Tract Three: Guajira (I love U 2 Much) by Yerba Buena is a song I can visualize hearing it in a Cuban night club. This artist did a wonderful job with this song.

Tract Four: Can I Walk By song by Jazze Pha featuring Monica gives a touch of pop music to the mix. It has a good beat and a wonderful balance between the artist.

Tract Five: Satellite by Santana featuring Jorge Moreno is a Mexican style of music. If you've heard of Santana, then you probably already know what the tract sounds like. With Satellite you can almost get off your feet and do the salsa.

Tract Six: El Deso Den Final by Christina Augilera has the softer side of music in the album. She does an amazing job to make this song very peaceful sounding.

Tract Seven: Represent, Cuba by Orishas featuring Heather Headley is a Cuban rhythm that makes you melt with every second of it.

Tract Eight: Do You Only Wanna Dance song by Mya is the Latin Ballroom dancing for any age. Just grab your partner, look deep into their eyes and move to the beat.

Tract Nine: You Sent Me by Shawn Kane brings in a 50's song that doesn't fit with the rest of the album, but works well with the movie itself.

Tract Ten: El Estuche song by Aterciopelados is truly the Latin music for those who enjoy that style of music.

The last two tracts on the album are Spanish versions of Do You Only Wanna Dance and Satellite. I personally don't like these versions compared to the originals, though they work well to bring for different styles of music to listen to. The overall disc is one that I enjoy listening to while driving down the open road. With that I rate this album four stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy the CD with the $$ you save by not seeing the movie..., February 26, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (Audio CD)
Hi - I haven't heard the CD, but have seen the movie. It is really cheesy and relies too much on the dancing, not a strong story. But I have to say, I was really jumping in my seat because of the soundtrack and had to go out dancing afterwards, so buy this CD instead of a movie ticket (or wait for video!)

I bought the soundtrack thinking it would be the songs I loved in the movie and was suprised to find it sorely lacking. It doesn't have the same feeling as the movie. I'm hoping they release a second one that has more of the '60's style latin music that I was craving after seeing the movie. I would recommend the cd, because I really do like the mix of latin and hip-hop, I just want people to be aware of what they're really getting!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing!, September 12, 2004
By
This review is from: Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (Audio CD)
This cd gets a lot of bad reviews based on how it isn't really latin. And also how rap wasnt around in the 50s BUT to be honest, who cares!? Most of these songs are extremely catchy and fun to listen to, this was one of the best cd buys I have made in years! "satellite(spanish version)" and the Wyclef song are my personal favorites but the cd is full of great songs! Its a must have!!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Rhythm Will Get You, September 7, 2004

Is this authentic Latino/salsa music? Maybe not. But, is it highly energetic and makes you want to dance around the house? DEFINITELY. I'm a huge fan of Marc Anthony (his salsa music, not that pop drivel he does), so I am familiar with good salsa music. Is this the best Latin music on the market? Probably not, but I would still definitely recommend it for the rhythms that make me dance in my seat at stop lights. And the Span-glish used on most of the tracks works well for someone whose high school/college Spanish is very rusty. :)

The movie was highly forgettable, but I knew as soon as it ended that I wanted the music. The best track is definitely Represent Cuba.

I love the soundtrack. It definitely makes you want to get up and dance. It's a blend of salsa and hip-hop. My favorite songs are Dance Like This and Do You Only Wanna dance. The CD is definitely worth purchasing. It's great from the beginning to the end. I also saw the movie, which was really good...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Beauty of Love and the Beauty of the Dance, April 2, 2005
This review is from: Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (Audio CD)
"DD Havana Nights has it all: a coming-of-age tale of an attractive young couple; a setting of lush tropical nights and 20th-century political havoc; a cast that includes supportive parents (unusual in a story of young love) and dazzling singers, dancers and musicians from multicultural and multiracial backgrounds; and the sharp contrasts--softened in warm Caribbean colors--of the prevalent class consciousness and economic disparities--all of which frame the beauty of love and the beauty of the dance.

Our star-crossed lovers are Romala Garai's Katie Miller, a recently uprooted, brainy high school senior from the States, and Diego Luna's Havier Suarez, a wise young waiter shouldering the burden of supporting his family. Having inadvertently caused Havier to lose his job, Katie suggests they earn money by winning a dance contest. Her sassy sexiness and bright delight, along with his strength and passion surface in their dancing. Her movement and gestures mirror the physical joy and emotional willingness of an adventurous adolescent woman, his illustrate a strong restraint as well as a desire to embrace all that his partner offers. Both yearn for the physical freedom that will set them on the path to other freedoms--those of choice, opportunity, and hope for the future. And, both are supported by their families who are somewhat bemused by the situation.

This second DD has more of a global outreach with its Afro-Cuban rhythms and Latin ballroom scenes and with a 'disappeared' parent and a parent working for a multinational corporation. Havier's family's crowded inner city home is contrasted with the Miller family's spacious apartment. Spanish dialect and 1950s costuming bring reality to the story. Oceanside scenes--especially in a silky beach cabana--bring in the natural beauty of the setting and of the young lovers.

For those of us who feel forever connected to the long-lived DD#1, the revival of Patrick Swazee's role as a dance instructor is elegant. He provides a pause as Katie and Havier move through their steps, toward their final performance. He also provides the insights that allow the young lovers to get to know each other's bodies and figure out not only the dance but also their strengthening relationship. The tale moves toward a parting that is both sweet and sad. Katie and Havier, however, have danced the dance. They will always have the dance and the dancing as will we--the DD fans.

1.0 out of 5 stars God, was it ever awful..., October 13, 2004
By
This review is from: Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (Audio CD)
I would give this soundtrack 0 stars if it was possible, I was very-very disappointed (probably just like most people that expected to hear some good ol' latin music). This CD has only three songs I would consider remotely appropriate for a movie about latin/ballroom dancing: Satellite (Spanish Version), El Estuche and Do You Only Wanna Dance by Julio Daivel Big Band. Everything else is either spanglish Rap or Hip-Hop. When I first started listening to the soundtrack I thought I inserted a wrong CD.. If you like latin music or expect to find few nice danceable Salsa or Mambo on this CD - FORGET IT, you're better of getting something different, 85% of this one is Hip-Hop and Rap. On another hand, if you really enjoyed the movie (I wonder if there is anybody who did...) you should probably get the Soundtrack too, but in my opinion it was just as lame, in fact I think the Soundtrack spoiled the movie.
