5.0 out of 5 stars Dirty Dancing
If you enjoyed the movie Dirty Dancing, you will love the soundtrack. This cd is one that can change your mood with just a minute of listening. 3.0 out of 5 stars My Opinion - subjective of course
This is a good cd, especially if you like the music of the time setting this movie took place. Great music to work out (dance) to or drive with.

If you enjoyed the movie Dirty Dancing, you will love the soundtrack. This cd is one that can change your mood with just a minute of listening. If you are not having a very upbeat day and you listen to any of the songs found on this cd you will often find yourself tapping your feet or snapping you fingers to the beat. Each of the songs have a different tempo, and each one can meet the mood you are in. The musical style also varies from song to song. Personally, I love this soundtrack and it is one that i play a lot. Everyone I have recommended this cd to also finds it very enjoyable. The songs are not "hard rock" but yet the are not "classical". It has a variety of all time good songs. If you are looking for a cd that can put you in an upbeat mood instantly, go get Dirty Dancing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who could have thunk it?, November 19, 2005
Where in the world can you get such a great combination of old and new and enjoy it so much? That's what this soundtrack offers: a little bit of something for everyone. Again, the movie without the soundtrack would have just been a movie - but it's the music that made it a hit. Another "must own" soundtrack!

5.0 out of 5 stars DIRTY DANCING, June 23, 2001
By
ianphillips@uk.dreamcast.com (BOLTON, LANCASHIRE, ENGLAND) - See all my reviews
Dirty Dancing brings back many good memories. It truly is a wonderful film in that it does'nt come across as a routine, sloppy production like so many love stories can be. What compliments the ethos of the film is the sizzling soundtrack. The story in the film is set in the 1960's though the majority of it's soundtrack are tracks recorded in the 1980's and they do admitedly sound very distinctive to that era but never the less it still makes for a tremendously enjoyable soundtrack. I've Had The Time Of My Life is a song that forever will be associated with Dirty Dancing and it's an absolutley magnificent recording at that. as the song plays you almost visualise the triumphant climax of the film where Patrick swayze and Jennifer grey do some electricifying dancing. Be my Baby is a fantastic soul classic sung by the highly underated group, The Ronettes where as Patrick Swayze surprisingly puts in a stunning and powerful performance on the breathtakingly beautiful, She's Like's The Wind. Hungry Eyes is another stand out track. With it's beautiful musical arrangements and a fabulous performance from Eric Carmen, the tack is quite simply a classic - a vastly underated one1 Every track on here is an absolute clasic with main highlights being glorious soul classics like Stay by William and Maurice, the silly butfun Love Is Strange, Overload and more contemporary recordings like the swinging, Yes and the totally magnificent, Where Are You Tonight? Superb recordings all round from an equally superb, classic movie. Highly Recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for Dirty Dancers!, April 27, 2004
By
andy8047 (Nokomis,Florida) - See all my reviews
On August 14,1987,the movie DIRTY DANCING was theatrically released and became one of the year's best films. Some songs on this album were previously released. The first track,(I'VE HAD THE)TIME OF MY LIFE was a major hit, performed by the surviving Righteous Brother Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes. Warnes had a hit song in the 70's entitled RIGHT TIME OF THE NIGHT. TIME OF MY LIFE was later used in a hotel chain commercial and Medley and Warnes sued for the rights. BE MY BABY was a hit in '62 for the Ronettes. SHE'S LIKE THE WIND was another hit performed by the film's star PATRICK SWAYZE. Another original track that also became a hit was HUNGRY EYES,performed by Eric Carmen. Carmen had a hit in '75 entitled ALL BY MYSELF. He also co-wrote the "Footloose" love theme,ALMOST PARADISE. STAY was on hit parade in 1961 or '62,performed by Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs. YES sounds awesome and is suitable for aerobics classes. YOU DON'T OWN ME was a hit for Lesley Gore in '63 and on this album is covered by The Blow Monkeys, whose frontman is a George Michael soundalike. Bruce Channel recorded HEY BABY and was a hit in '62. OVERLOAD is a hard-rocker. LOVE IS STRANGE was recorded in the late 50's by Mickey & Sylvia. WHERE ARE YOU TONIGHT? was recorded by the Doobie Brothers' former frontman Tom Johnston in the style of Huey Lewis & The News(at the time of recording, the Doobie Brothers were disbanded and would later re-form with the original members including Johnston). IN THE STILL OF THE NIGHT was a hit for the Five Satins in 1956. The sequel to this album,MORE DIRTY DANCING,would contain more oldies-but-goodies and original music.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best CD ever!, February 24, 2003
Hi! I loved this movie and I loved this soundtrack! I have the second soundtrack too! I love the songs, "Time of My life" and "Hungry Eyes". Ok, well I love all the songs on this CD! And to the person who said this CD was missing a song. The song that you're talking about is either "Do you love me?" or "Loveman" They were both played when Baby noticed the Dirty Dancing. And both of these songs are on the 2nd CD! I suggest you buy the second CD because its as good as this one!! I loved both CDs!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great memories!, December 27, 2004
This is album really rocks! Maybe just the first song "The Time of My Life" pays the whole value! Although you never saw "Dirty Dancing" I'm sure you'll recognize that song anywhere. The second song is "Be My Baby" (The Ronettes) an oldie song that makes people wanna dance with that special person... a nice feeling (and memories, of course!)
A Patrick Swayze contribution comes with "She's Like a Wind" a soft ballad not so much diffused but a nice one. Te album is completed by a mixture of very nice rhytmhs, which can be for both: listening and dancing.
In summary, a great album to be part of a collection, great music that will remind you "the time of your life"

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album!, November 20, 2004

Chris "Owns" (Bucharest, Romania) - See all my reviews
I saw this movie about 4 years ago and I loved its music. These tracks are all hand-picked to offer the maximum feeling for the movie. They just make you want to get up and dance. The best two songs on this album in my opinion are "The Time of My Life" and "Hungry Eyes", both being huge hits in America a long time ago. They're great driving songs and soon you'll find yourself singing along or tapping at least a finger to Merry Clayton's "Yes" or thinking of your loved one when hearing Swaize's "She's Like the Wind". Classics remain classics and this CD brings 12 high quality true pop songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars ahhhh, junior high memories, March 3, 2001
By
This was 1 of those movies in junior high that me & my best friend would watch almost every weekend....quoting & singing along. Even years later after not seeing it, I can still quote & sing along just like it was yesterday. I really dug oldies back in junior high, & still like all these songs...though I can detect a little cheesiness in the 80's tracks in here, but they're still lovable...maybe only cuz my 13 year old self loved em so much :) & who didn't try to mimick along to "Love is Strange" like they do in the movie ;) All these songs fit the movie I thought. My faves include of course "Time of My Life", & "Be My Baby". If this isn't enuff for ya, then get the More Dirty Dancing Soundtrack as well....esp. for "Do you LUUUUV meeee".
