5.0 out of 5 stars The Dirty Dozen: The Next Mission
The Dirty Dozen: The Next Mission isn't that bad of a movie, great acting, and good battle scenes. The story begins when Maj.Gen. Warden(Ernest Borgnine) gives Maj. John Reisman(Lee Marvin) another hit-and-run mission: Kill a Nazi SS General who's wanting to kill Hitler. When are they going to make a picture and use the right actors. A black GI in Waffen SS uniforms, there wouldn't be a chance in hell that would of happen.

Give this movie a chance, I liked it. Hope it comes to DVD.

1.0 out of 5 stars 18 Years Too Late!, October 1, 2002

After seeing the first rendition of the film, this sequel is most unfortunate. The first was canned in 1967 and this 1985 version is very disconcerting. The time from the first to the second mission was just a couple of months in 1944 but the players have all aged beyond their military retirement age. You don't make a sequel AFTER 18 years using the same principal actors portraying the same peronalities, and expect to be still within the bounds of credulity. This is a bad rehash of the first and was probabaly filmed to cash in on the "cult" popularity of the first that generated over time. Still, it was fun to see the aging Marvin, Borgnine and Jaeckel reprise their parts. It's a good thing Bronson had the good sense not to indulge in this one.

I received the VHS tape in a timely fashion after my Amazon purchase. The tape was in excellent condition with sharp images and good audio. If one has watched the Dirty Dozen, this sequel is a must.

3.0 out of 5 stars THE DIRTY DOZEN PLUS ONE: UNLUCKY 13 MEN ON A MISSION, July 11, 2008
By
This review is from: Dirty Dozen: Next Mission [VHS] (VHS Tape)

I'm old enough to remember the #1 selling book The Dirty Dozen and to have seen the film when originally shown in theatres. Had never seen this sequel until I bought the 2 DVD set from Warner Brothers.

Though it is quite evident that this was a made for TV venture, with a more constrained budget than THE DIRTY DOZEN, the movie does what was intended: it entertains.

In the beginning Lee Marvin looks a little pale and weak but once into the movie he seems to have more energy and hits his stride. Same with Richard Jaeckel who reprises his role as training sergeant. Good to see these old cast members with Ernest Borgnine as the general in charge.

Premise of this movie, stop an SS general from killing Hitler, allies figure the war will be over sooner with Hitler screwing up than if he is killed and someone else more sane takes over. The point in the movie when Hitler appears has the audience just as surprised as the U.S. Army boys there to kill the SS general. What a choice to kill Hitler or the general? But Lee Marvin keeps them on track.

The lower budget shows at times, and the overall acting and plot just doesn't equal the original, but what sequels do? Overall this movie is no worse than most B war movies made in the late 1940s and 1950s, but it is in color where most of those were in black and white.

As long as the viewer doesn't expect too much of this pale shadow of its illustrious predecessor, it is an enjoyable movie. THE DIRTY DOZEN it may not be, but in its own right it is an "ok" war film. Well worth the watching and a good addition to the library of films with WWII as their subject.

Semper Fi.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing Sequel to a Classic Film!, June 5, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dirty Dozen: Next Mission [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I never saw the original which is considered a classic by today's standards. This film had one of my favorite actors, Rolf Saxon, and I was happy to purchase it from here but the tape was defective. Anyway, the film is average all around. Lee Marvin and Ernest Borgnine are pretty good in their roles.

I thought that this movie had a very interesting script. Some parts could have used a little more work but overall I recommend it.
