5.0 out of 5 stars stella's great on her own
I loved her in Sister Soleil. I was listening to the radio one day and I heard "Kiss Kiss" and I knew it must be her, then I found out she made an album on her own called Dirty Little Secret. 2.0 out of 5 stars i miss the ol' stella
apparently peoples don't know much about stella's earlier work in a band called sister soleil. her lyrics there were more honest and threatening, desperate and angry -- and meanwhile a sweet glimmer of hope and thirst for peace. ANYWAY -- the music was alot more intense and stella's voice absolutely shimmered. but alas! something has happened to her and while she makes...

I loved her in Sister Soleil. I was listening to the radio one day and I heard "Kiss Kiss" and I knew it must be her, then I found out she made an album on her own called Dirty Little Secret. This album is amazing for someone that wants something a little different from the norm and someone that gets tired of the same old pop music. She has a unique and varied vocal style combined with interesting lyrics and music. I say if you're open to something new and exciting try this one out. Be sure to also check her out in Sister Soleil.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Dirty Little Secret" is an honest pleasure, October 11, 2001

After enjoying Stella Soleil as candy raver in her debut album--"Drown Me in You", and glitter angel with an attitude in her second--"Soularium", it is refreshing to experience another self-transformation...Surprise! Now this changeling is cool platinum. This erotic album is inspired, graceful, clean, clear and succeeds in piercing the heart. Stella performs her songs seemingly without effort, a fish in water. Sexy and brazen, she shoots straight from the hip. Danceable rhythms that fit like your favorite shirt. Street wise without being cynical. "Dirty Little Secret" is an honest pleasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure ear candy, May 29, 2001

I first remember hearing Stella Soleil when she was in Sister Soleil. When I saw the video for "Kiss Kiss", I knew right from the get go that this was the same chick from Sister Soleil. I personally like this album. It is upbeat and just fun to listen to. My favorite tracks are "Kiss Kiss", "Pretty Young Thing" and "Imperfect". Those tracks really stand out for me. At times Stella's vocals reminded me a bit of Ani Difranco with electronic beats. I think you either like Stella Soleil or you don't like her, and I for one like what I've heard from her as a solo artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars IT'S SHAKIRA CROSS GWEN STEFANI - EXCEPT BETTER, April 2, 2003
This review is from: Dirty Little Secret (Audio CD)
Considering that the world has taken Shakira by storm, it's a shame that we (the world) neglect poor Stella Soleil. Her strong ethnic vocals reach it's notes and polishes windows almost. The attractive chrous of "Pretty Young Thing" is a definite radio song... if only radio stations in Australia supported her- she'd be a bomb! Likewise with "You", a suttle, more deeper meaning ballad that screams out #1!!! If you like Shakira, and a twist of Gwen Stefani, I can clearly say you'll be satisfied. She is an artist ready for a worldwide smash--- wait and see!!! Just wait and see!

5.0 out of 5 stars Deeper Meaning, February 1, 2003

Stella Soleil: I have to admit, not many people have heard of her. And if they have, it's usually only because of her hit, "Kiss Kiss". Well, there's definitely more to Stella than her hit single from the album; she's much deeper. I think the reason why I first was interested in Stella was because her voice was so different than the others dominating the chart then. It wasn't Britney or Jessica Simpson (no offense to them, of course), it was fresh and new. And on her album, she shows that she's going to do it her way and not be a poser like many other wannabe stars. Stella wrote her lyrics the way she wanted, playing with them, making them into stories. Some people call them cheesy, but the people who do that aren't really listening. Stella's covered all the bases on her album. She has ballads that are perfect for listening to if a person doesn't feel like jumping around (You, Dance With Me), and if a good song is needed for a dance, something bouncy, she offers her translation of Tarkan's Simarik (Kiss Kiss) and songs such as Stand Up with the funky guitars and Look My Way, which is more club sounding, going back to some of her Sister Soleil roots. All in all, I can't even really explain the depths of this album. I can't say what a mistake it would be not to buy it either.

5.0 out of 5 stars Muy Bueno!, January 4, 2003

Fantastic album! I saw the video for her debut single 'Kiss Kiss' on MTV. And I was like "Who the hell is this woman? This song is awesome!" so I bought the album when it came out. I was totally amazed by the album! I think it's perfect, and it's a shame the rest of the world hasn't caught on. If anyone knows of the original version of 'Kiss Kiss' by an Arabic singer you know how good it is. Well the English version is so much better! I love it, and I think that Holly Valence (Australian singer) version is so poor! Stella's voice is totally wicked and fabulous! This album is so many different styles of music. If anyone was a fan of the Spice Girls, you know that album called 'Spiceworld'. Well that album was pop, but it had differnt styles of music from, disco, mowtown, jazz, rock etc. and this is what this album is. It's totally worth the buy. And I hope that she puts out something new because this is a pretty freakin' hott record!

I bought this CD for the only purpose... for the cool song "Kiss Kiss". I bought it used off of amazon.com because I was worried that would've been the ONLY song I would like on the album!! I was Surprised! This album is awesome! I can't believe Stella is so Underrated. I think if they used one of her more upbeat songs it would be a big hit... "Kiss Kiss" is wonderful, but it has a very european sound to it, which it seems like america does not like, which i love. But I don't care, i love "Kiss Kiss"

KISS KISS: A wonderful song, and I love her voice. I think she has a cross between Stevie Nicks-Belinda Carlisle-Kim Wilde. Its very distinctive.

PRETTY YOUNG THING: who was produced by Bryan Rawling (cher's Believe) and has that same type of sound to it. I think this is the next single.

YOU: is a great ballad, nice lyrics

IMPERFECT: this is an okay song, but Im sure it will grow on me.

RUNAWAY CRUSH: has a very rocking chorus, its very cool.

STAND UP: a very fun, dancey song!

LOVE YOU TO DEATH: also a killer (ha ha) chorus. Its one of my favorite songs on the album. "I'm like a woman possessed..."

ANGEL FACE: a little bit softer, but its nice to listen to.

TWILIGHT: a very cool song... "Sugar Girl"

LOOK MY WAY: It's definetly a Belinda Carlisle song. From her "Live Your Life Be Free" Album, but it's still very much Stellas own.

LET's JUST GO TO BED: I think this is an okay song, but not one of my favorite songs.

DANCE WITH ME: Excellent lyrics, and is another favorite of mine.

Just like one reviewer said, If you loved "Kiss Kiss" You will like the other songs on this album, and I agree... Check it out. you'll be glad you did, I bet.

4.0 out of 5 stars A "Secret" Worth Letting Out, June 5, 2001
By
Chris S. "cscotts" (atlanta, ga United States) - See all my reviews

Those who first heard the song 'Kiss Kiss' were probably wondering who the heck that was singing this weird little song. Well, by now you probably know she goes by the name Stella Soleil, and if you like 'Kiss Kiss', you'll probably love the rest of this extremely solid debut. 'Pretty Young Thing', 'Imperfect', and 'Runaway Crush' come loaded to bare with hooks to spare, and those are just three of the highlights. Soleil's voice is somewhat of a hybrid that lies between Gwen Stefani and Siouxsie Sioux, with a little Cyndi Lauper thrown in for good measure. It's definately an acquired taste, and her voice comes across as somewhat untrained at times, but overall the vocal work is decent. If you can move past some of the vocal tics, you won't be sorry you picked up this record.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous, October 21, 2003

I heard of Stella Soleil when her remake of Tarkan's "Simarik" came out (aptly titled "Kiss Kiss"). I did not much care for her version, but bought the album nevertheless. I was extremely surprised! "Kiss Kiss" is not a fair representation of the album. The other songs are brilliant! There's not one song on there that I skip. Her voice is wickedly fine and the music has variety. Standout tracks are "Imperfect", "Runaway Crush", "Twilight" and "Angel Face". It's a shame that Stella never took off. So many other tracks could've been singles (and could've been hits too!) If you want something different, give this album a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT CD, WORTH THE MONEY, June 24, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Dirty Little Secret (Audio CD)
I bought this CD after seeing the music video for "KISS KISS", it was awsome! I 100% LOVE this CD, every penny is worth it! After I found out about Stella Soleil I went on Ebay and found out that the band was also know as SISTER SOLEIL, I now have all of her full length CDs including the debute EP "DROWN ME IN YOU" wich is no longer avalible in stores (but maybe on Ebay)! Every Sister/Stella Soleil CD is great and totaly worth it (especially DROWN ME IN YOU). So go out and buy this CD and "SOULARIUM" (listed under Sister Soleil) and if you can, "DROWN ME IN YOU".

ENJOY!!

PS - To get UNRELEASED mp3s by Sister/Stella Soleil go to: angelfire.com/ia3/stella/stellamain.html AND angelfire.com/band2/sistersoleil/multi.html

PPS - Search google for sister soleil drown me in you mp3 and see if you can find any songs from the CD, if that dosn't work search for sister soleil bazamba mp3 (this song is from DROWN ME IN YOU & pretty much describes the whole album)!!
