5.0 out of 5 stars THIS ALBUM IS PURE ENTERTAINMENT!, March 3, 1999
Warrant's "Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich" is an album I would recommend for any serious collection of "metal" music. The songs are energetic, melodic, great lyrics, pretty much everything you could ask for. Jani Lane is a wonderful songwriter and singer, and in this debut album we caught a glimpse of the potential of this great band. I always found it amusing that a lot of Warrant's songs had some lyrics that reminded me of country music. Not to worry, the band played in a way that left no doubt in your mind it was NOT country music. This album is a classic! From the "power ballad" "Heaven" to the tongue in cheek "D.R.F.S.R." this album delivers. As for other albums you may like if you like this band, well, starting in 1998 and moving forward into early this year there has been a phenomenal amount of activity within bands of this genre. I started cross referencing and came up with some great news! I am happy to report that Sebastian Bach (former Skid Row vocalist) has released his first solo album, and to date it is one I personally would rate as a five star album. Lizzy Borden's last release was 1995, Poison's and Quiet Riot's were 1996 so don't count them out yet. As for the rest...prepare to be surprised. The rest of these bands have new or re-released titles between 1998 and early 1999. AC/DC, Accept, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Bang Tango, Baton Rouge, Bon Jovi, Cinderella, Danger Danger, Dangerous Toys, Def Leppard, Dokken, FireHouse, Great White, Guns 'N Roses, Heavens Edge, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Kane Roberts, Kiss, Kix, L.A. Guns, Metallica, Motley Crue, Mr. Big, Ozzy Osbourne, Ratt, Saigon Kick, Scorpions, Slaughter, Sleeze Beez, Steelheart, Twisted Sister, Tyketto, Van Halen, Warrant and Whitesnake. So, to quote Quiet Riot, "Cum on Feel the Noize". (For those who are unfamiliar, that's how they spelled it on the album!) You can start right here with this album, Warrant's "Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich"

I will always be a product of the Glam '80's. You can't go wrong with this disc. In fact, buy Cherry Pie while you are at it. Long live hair bands!

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid, strong 80's pop metal, September 22, 2000
By Taylor Sapp (Los Angeles, CA USA) - See all my reviews
I've always thought of WARRANT as one of the better 80's hair bands, and DIRTY ROTTEN... is their second best album, after the far superior CHERRY PIE. While this album isn't particularly original, the hit ballads "Heaven" and "Sometimes she Cries" are fantastic, and "Down Boys" is a perfectly fun cheesy rocker. My only problem with this album might be attitude. This album in general lacks the trashy fun of CHERRY PIE, or albums such as SKID ROW's debut, or MOTLEY CRUES, DR. FEELGOOD. CINDERELLA and GREAT WHITE might be the most similar comparisons, although this album does have some simularities to much of WHITE LION'S work (although it lacks the complexity). Anyways, for a solid 80's rock albun, this is a good choice. But I recommend casual fans to start with CHERRY PIE, or their GREATEST HITS (which I feel is the best way to go). And, for god's sake, stay away from the awful quasi-alterntave junk of their more recent releases (it all goes downhill after DOG EAT DOG).
