All In The Family,
By A. Estes (Maine) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dirty Sexy Knights In Paris (Audio CD)
As almost anyone surfing over to this page already knows, half of Audiovent (who started out simply under the moniker, Vent) are comprised of Incubus siblings. On vocals, Jason Boyd, the brother of Brandon, sounds much like his brother, while Benjamin Einziger, on guitar duties, is as capable of delivering infectious riffs as his brother, Mike. Now, the other two guys? Who cares (just kidding). As far as the music, the Incubus relation is extremely evident. If you thought bands like Hoobastank or Trapt sounded like Incubus, buddy, you are in for a surprise here! Audiovent really don't do much to steer away comparisons, but hey, that's not a bad thing. As a previous reviewer says, the music is good, so who cares if they sound like someone else? This CD is a worthy, solid listen, all the way through. I'm really surprised that this band never made it big. "The Energy" and "Looking Down" were both released to radio, and both are very catchy and professional. Other songs like "One Small Choice" and "Sweet Frustration" are even better, and just show off how great the songwriting skills of this band are. Definitely a radio-ready disc, which isn't neccessarily bad. However, the best track is the sublime closer, "When I Drown." Very moving song, almost reminds me of Smashing Pumpkins' more experimental stuff. All the songs on here are excellent, and this is one you can't put in and not skip a track. I only barred in one star for not taking enough risks or even attempting to not sound like Incubus. Sadly though, after this flopped, Audiovent changed their name to Nigel, and then, five minutes later, broke up. The band, however, has re-emerged under the name Agent Sparks (sans vocalist Jason Boyd). Worth looking for their demos online if you were a fan. As it stands though, this is a good debut, too bad they couldn't keep it together. If you are an Incubus fan, or just enjoy alternative/modern rock, "Dirty Sexy Knights In Paris" (can't get over that title...) is worth your time.

Nice new CD,

'The Energy' is an absolutely fantastic and, indeed, high energy song. There are many other great-sounding tracks on this album as well, and I really respect the talent these guys have. The lyrics could use some work though. I found them a bit too self-centered, self-conscious and negative for my taste. Stalker, for instance, is a wonderful sounding song with somewhat cringe-worthy lyrics... I truly hope "I'm static, you're clinging, you're my Klingon" was meant to be funny. Because it is. And as a devoted Incubus fan, 'Looking Down' really kind of annoyed me after learning that it was "about the whole Incubus thing." Particularly the line "can you face the sound, and decide." Well, yeah, I can, and the big siblings are significantly ahead. But overall, these guys are a terrific young band and I really enjoy their music. Their style is really nice and they're great musicians. I'm going to try to catch them in concert when they head my way, since I've heard they're awesome live. I gave 'Dirty Sexy Knights in Paris' five stars based on the group's talent and the fact that it's much better than a lot of stuff out there. Despite my complaints, it's definitely one of my top ten favorite albums. I'm just ultra-picky.

Finally!,

After waiting for a band who was really inspiring, I finally found the answer in Audiovent and this album. The words, the music-- everything is in perfect harmony. I was introduced to Audiovent through being a big fan of Incubus (I'm sure all of you know the connection by now). Over and over people told me "they're nothing alike." and it's true. Audiovent is in a league very, very seperate from Incubus, but just as great and talented. Every track on the album is amazing-- in the beginning with the song, "The Energy" it's fast-paced, heart-racing rock-- the final track, "When I Drown" slows everything down with a beautiful piano accompaniment. These guys are going to bring to Rock back, no doubt. If you don't own the album yet, get out and buy it now. Thank you Jason, Ben, Paul and Jammin!!

I listened to this album wondering, and sort of hoping it would sound like Incubus. And it does, and it doesn't. I have to admit they have a great sound and Jason Boyd has an amazing voice just like his brother. Now Audiovent says that they do not want to be compared to Incubus but the truth is a lot people only know who they are because of Incubus. They are great and amazing and I like this cd a little bitmore than "A Crow Left of the Murder" by Incubus. But Incubus is still far superior no matter what anyone says. But buy this album

I purchased this cd about a month ago and can't stop listening to it from beginning to end. And to be quite honest, there aren't many cds out there these days where you can listen to the entire thing without skipping over songs!

Hoobastank Meets Nirvana,
By
This review is from: Dirty Sexy Knights In Paris (Audio CD)
If Hoobastank and Nirvana got married, what would their children sound like? Enter Audiovent, the newest verse-chorus-verse artists to lay down hard rock tracks reminiscent of early 90's grunge, but with a clean, refined sound. Audiovent effortlessly combines power chords, ultra-melodic vocals, and driving rhythms in Dirty Sexy Knights In Paris, their first major release. The quartet brandishes a hard rock sound indicative of a return to what alternative rock used to mean - free of DJ's and turn tables, couched in a studio masterpiece. This album portrays a journey, led by the dually gritty and poetic vocals of Jason Boyd. The next three pulse-pounders continue the emotional trend, towards recovery - the focus is clearly on the ex. The choruses become so familiar, by the end of the song it's already stuck in your head. Leaving no time for recovery, Audiovent retaliates against its last track, imprinting an equally catchy set of lines. Glancing at the song titles and listening to the lyrics, the topics become successively more serious. The result of such a negative change could prove disastrous, but it merely forces Audiovent to rock that much harder. The change is far less recognizable when focusing solely on the instrumentation. By the last song, "When I Drown," the listener should be about ready to hear "The Energy" again. A truly depressing song, slow tempo and lifeless - the only song that seems out of place on the album - seems more befitting of a hidden track, than the closer. Overall, however, Audiovent is a band destined for greatness, and a light at the end of the tunnel for listeners tired of interchangeable rap-rock. "Rain" and "Beautiful Addiction" are probable radio tunes, but nearly every song is hit material. "The Energy" has already hit billboard, and will likely make Dirty Sexy Knights In Paris a platinum success.

THE MOST OVERLOOKED BAND IN THE PAST 5 YEARS,
By
This review is from: Dirty Sexy Knights In Paris (Audio CD)
When I first purchased this CD last year, I have to admit, I only purchased because I knew that more than half of this band was blood related to one of my favorite bands, Incubus. Upon listening to the CD, though, it was quite obvious that these were two VERY different bands, the only similarities being found in singer Jason Boyd's vocals (you can tell him and Brandon Boyd are brothers by the way they sing). When describing their sound, think Foo Fighters from their early days in '95 to The Colour And The Shape era, combined with Incubus from the Make Yourself era, and a little bit of Hoobastank. Each and every song on this record sounds completely different from the one before it, and is by far the most diverse record that I have heard in years. It's extremely unfortunate that this band has gone overlooked for the most part in the modern rock scene, because they deserve large amounts of recognition for the incredible album that they are out on tour supporting. It would be a mistake to pass up this album, and an even bigger mistake to not keep an eye on this band in the future. For my fellow Incubus fans, I must say that this album blows Morning View out of the water in terms of diversity and overall flow of the songs on the album. Jason Boyd's voice is more gutsy than Brandon's voice, and is a lot easier to get used to than Brandon's 'Mike Patton-esque' vocals. Highlights on this album are Looking Down, Rain, Underwater Silence, Gravity, and When I Drown. If you listen to nothing else on this album, listen to those songs. You will not be dissappointed.

If you've heard of this band at all you were either playing Madden 2004 or heard it from Brandon Boyd because I don't think their single got enough radio play even though it probably should have. Basically I learned of this band from the Madden 2003 soundtrack and thought the single "The Energy" was extremely powerful. I loved it. It's just one of those tracks you hear and just love it right away. I just had to check out the cd then. After hearing the album numerous times I was glad to find a number of other tracks just as good as the single. My favorites from the album are "The Energy", "I Can't Breathe", "Stalker", and "Back and Forth". Here are the ratings for everything...
1. The Energy - 10/10 2. Looking Down - 9.5/10 3. I Can't Breathe - 10/10 4. Rain - 10/10 5. One Small Choice - 9.5/10 6. Sweet Frustration - 10/10 7. Stalker - 10/10 8. Gravity - 9.5/10 9. Underwater Silence - 9.5/10 10. Back And Forth - 10/10 11. Beautiful Addiction - 9.5/10 12. When I Drown - 7/10 Overall: 95% A It's just a pretty good release by a band that probably could have been more if it would have stuck together. I would probably blame the lack of promotion for this as the real cause behind why it isn't as well known as it should be.

Audiovent - Dirty Sexy Knights In Paris,
By Tim Veldmuis "Muisje^" (The Netherlands) - See all my reviews

Audiovent is an Alternative Rock band from Calabasas Ca. With its hard rock roots and subtle use of vocal harmony they really set themselves apart from any other band. The album is not much different from their description.
From the beginning with 'The Energy', they start off incredibly. Great guitar riffs and amazing use vocals are just some of the many good things you could say about the song. It completely sets the tone for the album, which makes you long for more. And for more you don't have to wait much longer, "Rain" follows soon enough. Again this song is more forceful with a stunning chorus that I cannot describe differently, then a pleasure to the ears. The album does luckily not only contain more fast-paced songs with a rough sound to it, it also contains awesome tracks that just blow harmony in its purest form out of your speakers. "Sweet Frustration" can be named as one of those tracks. With its soft guitar play but still up-tempo and great use of vocals I must say this is definitely one of my favorite tracks of the album. All in all I believe we can say that 'Dirty Sexy Knights In Paris' is a great album with the music and vocals fitting perfectly together. Audiovent created an awesome debut album, which has made me long for more, and will quite probably make you too.

incubus jr.-fabulous modern rock with great vocals,

This review is from: Dirty Sexy Knights In Paris (Audio CD)
audiovent of course has the advantage of having singer jason being the younger brother of brandon from incubus and the guitarist (dunno name) being the younger brother of mike from incubus.many may write them off as an incubus ripoff or "incubus lite" but these guys know how to write music."the energy" is a fantastic poppy, fun, and catchy tune, while "looking down" has a harder edge."sweet frustration" displays the wide range of talent these boys have, as the coustic guitarwork is phenomenal."gravity" is the heaviest track on here, while "stalker" is a well done remake of an old fan favorite.the two best songs on here are "beautiful addiction" and "underwater silence".both very catchy and could have been huge.great vocals on both tracks.its too bad this band already broke up.they had HUGE potential, especially with their bloodlines.this is right up there with some incubus records, and deserves to be in the collection of any fan of audiovent's "big brothers".
