5.0 out of 5 stars UNBEATABLE Hits, leaves me yearning for new material, December 18, 2003
By
This review is from: Dirty South Classics (Audio CD)
The songs on this album are the songs which have come to represent all that the Goodie MOB is about. Spiritual, soulful, lyrically phenomenal, and musically gifted, the group surpasses the vast majority of other artists in the hip-hop business in nearly every regard. With Soul Food and Still Standing they did what they do best, which is spit about subjects that matter. On World Party they 'burned the house down' in a way that showed that they not only don't need to rap garbage about material prosperity and bragadaciousness, but they showed that they were indeed better than 90% of other rappers. If you don't have their other CD's, buy this one- it's some of the best music available in hip hop, and should be considered an essential. Goodie Mob and Outkast created dirty south, and that's what this album is representative of.

This album rivals Outkast's greatest hits album, with one glaring shortcoming. The Goodie crew did not come up with any new material for the disc. This is undoubtedly due to the turmoil amongst their ranks in the past 2 years, with Khujo losing his leg in a car accident, and each member coming out with their own very respectable solo album. As of the past year the Mob has been disbanded, and so this Classics disc is understandably devoid of new material. If one searches for Goodie Mob discs on Amazon.com or elsewhere, however, they will find One Monkey Don't Stop No Show, which is due to be released sometime in 2004. I'm not sure if this is true, but it has a new label (Koch Records, which Big Gipp's latest disc was released under, as opposed to La Face/Arista Records which has previously been responisble for all of the non-Aquemini DF albums). Not sure if Organized Noise will do that album, as Cee-Lo has used Timbaland to produce his Cee-Lo Green is the Soul Machine album, but at this point, all discussion of their next album is pure speculation.

Knock 'em out the box, Rick

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy the other three -- forget about this., March 11, 2004
This review is from: Dirty South Classics (Audio CD)
You may wonder why I recommend forgetting this cd but still give it 5 stars. The goodie mob are an amazing and incredibly talented group of rappers/songwriters. However, this cd functioned to end their contract on Arista. They owed one more album -- and being disbanded -- what better way to do it than issue a greatest hits package. But come on! They have three incredible and amazing cds. GO BUY THEM!!! Trying to make one cd of goodie greats is terrible!! Before they split, there was rumor of issuing an album called "Leftovers," a disc of b-sides and soundtrack songs (p-jays soundtrack, soul assassins, etc.). Plus, from what i hear, they had some sweet tracks kickin around from the world party sessions that just didn't make the disc.
Where was that? It would have been far better.
Now, I know we're getting One Monkey Don't Stop no Show later this year. But change the name of the group. The Goodie Mob is the union of four incredible people -- not three. I'll buy it -- just to hear khujo, t-mo, and gipp rhyme it up. But do yourself a favor, get soulfood, still standing, and world party.
peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have if you don't have all of Goodie's albums!, March 4, 2004
This review is from: Dirty South Classics (Audio CD)
Oh my! I've been waiting for this disc for a hot minute. I've been a fan of the mob ever since the first strains of cell therapy were burned into my head. And thats been several years! I'm a big fan of Dirty South music, even have a Dirty South tattoo, and I think that Atlanta has some of the hottest artists out now. But the Dungeon Family is the best, for those that don't already know, Outkast is included. Not only are the excellent rappers, they haven't lost their "soul" ya feel? I'm not going to name off which songs are the best. This is a greatest hits collection, all of them are good. Just get this, pop it in the deck, and enjoy the best of the south.
