Background you can skip
We recently had some near misses due to extreme rainfall in Northwest Indiana. Our dated sump pump, of the kind with battery backup, what slowly kicking it and we decided we needed to have the next one ready and waiting some the day it would croak.
Naturally, being a bargain hunter, I set out to find the cheapest possible solution. That, however, is not wise when dealing with potential water damage. We ordered this one given the HP listed, the dirty water cability and most importantly the price.

About this item
It looks like a common sump pump except that it seems slightly wider. Also, the 'floater' seems to have more leeway that with a normal run of the mill pump. It comes with a few extra adapters so you can hook it up easily. Our findings are that the floater tube is long and floats freely. The width of the pump is slightly more than that of our current battery backed pump which made it difficult to put in. Also, the connectors are in an 'odd' place so we had to get extra rubber pieces to make it connect.
The pump is loud when pumping out and seems to click on and off alot. Seems to be in the electric design of the floater unit. It does , however, handle dirty water well and the HP power is sufficient.

Pros
0 Cheap
0 Dirty water capable
0 Decent HP
0 Long electricity cord
0 plenty extra connectors (e.g you can hook up a normal water hose, making it great as an emergency back up in case your old pump breaks)
0 Portable

Cons
0 Long floater tube seems to switch off and on alot more than other pump
0 Lots of HP but still only 1800 gph? Probably due to handling particles?

installed fine-supposed to be an automatic pump with float switch-have to jiggle the switch to turn on and then it will continue to run even with no water present. i am using it in an overflow ditch in my basement for washing machine, i have to go down to turn it on and then again down to lift the float so it will quit running. i will try to place it in a another area but i do not think that will help. i got it so i would NOT have to moniter the unit for on/off operations, so i am pretty disappointed in it at this time. but it does move alot of water quickly.

I purchased this as a way to empty out our fish pond when cleaning, it has an awesome output and will empty in a fraction of the time it used to take (we used to use the filter pump).
This is very powerful and sent a blast of water over our yard shed when I initially tested it out.
This was rated as a dirty pump so I do not have to worry about sucking up sand or gravel when cleaning.

I have only had this pump in service for three days, it appears to do the job. Time will tell. The Amazon write up for this pump is sparse. When you click on "additional information" and it shows "Technical information" the box identifying power supply needs to be changed to read 120VAC, it currently reads gasoline powered. The fittings that are provided with pump do not provide a garden hose thread, you will need to go to the hardware store and purchase the parts to make it adaptable.
If there is anything else to report in the future, good or bad, I will modify this review.

This is a good pump for the price. It's slower than the similar pump that my dad lent me, but it works great so far. The only complaint I have is that this type of cut-off switch doesn't work right for some reason in my in-ground pool (i.e. it left the pump running after the pool was drained). This is really the only reason that I don't give the pump a 5-star rating.

I use the pump for a fountain that gets tree leaves blown into it and it works great!

I purchased this pump to aid in a homeowner project that required I work in a pit below ground water level. Given the limited budget's most of us face today and that this is a one time project (I hope), I wanted something that would keep the pit clear of water without breaking the bank. This is an amazing little pump for the money! It arriveed well ahead of schedule and is already hard at work. Since I am often working in the pit as the pump runs, it is moving water that has been churned and is heavy with sand and silt. Nothing that I've seen so far (leaves, sand, silt, pebbles) seems to slow it down. I do agree with some of the other feedback comments that the switch design needs some work. But, for my purposes that is not an issue.

this is a follow-up... not knocking the pump because it does what it says, but Amazon recommended a hose to go with this pump, and the hose isn't compatible with the pump. The pump has threaded attachments, while the hose is smooth on the inside, and it won't fit the attachments.... either the hose folks need to have one end threaded and the other smooth, or else the pump people need to include an attachment that is threaded for the pump, but smooth for hoses to attach. I had to scramble to make this work, but I shouldn't have had to.... I changed my rating from a 5 to a 4 because of this oversight.
