About the Author

Now a proud and patriotic U.S. citizen and Texan, Rosalind Burgess grew up in London and currently calls Houston home. She has also lived in Germany, Iowa, and Minnesota. Roz retired from the airline industry to devote all her working hours to writing (although it seems more like fun than work). Patricia Obermeier Neuman spent her childhood and early adulthood moving around the Midwest (Minnesota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana), as a trailing child and then as a trailing spouse (inspiring her first book, MOVING: THE WHAT, WHEN, WHERE & HOW OF IT). A former reporter and editor, she lives with her husband in Door County, Wisconsin. They have three children and twelve grandchildren. Roz and Patty, along with characters Val and Kit, agree that friendship, humor, and love are as compelling as solving murders.

Middle-aged, Real Estate Agent Valerie Pankowski receives a phone call from a forgotten classmate that could result in a sweet listing for the firm. Before Valerie can get the paperwork done, her former classmate, Mavis, disappears and is later found dead from an apparent suicide. Valerie doesn't believe that Mavis committed suicide and becomes obsessed with finding out what really happened to her. Valerie and her old school chum, Kit, dangerously delve into Mavis's private life and uncover a secret identity far away from her hometown of Downers Grove. Meanwhile, Mavis's wealthy relatives aren't happy to find two inquisitive, amateur private investigators digging around in their family business. Valerie doesn't give up until she hears a shocking confession from the murderer whose identity no one would ever guess.

Valerie and Kit are witty and entertaining characters constantly on the move. This is a well-written mystery that reads along at a bright and cheerful pace with a surprisingly dark twist at the end.

I highly recommend this novel and I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

I was kept guessing throughout the entire novel and I like that.
The analogies throughout are priceless and often made me laugh.

A mysterious email and Mavis' disappearance drives Valerie, a real estate agent forward to find answers. Her best friend, Kit can't resist the temptation to play detective right along with Val.

You will continually wonder, as I did: Why did Mavis suddenly change her mind about selling her home? Who is Sean Fletcher? Did Mavis give birth to a son? What is Lionel, Mavis' brother hiding? Was Mavis murdered or did she commit suicide, as the authorities believe? Well, all my questions were answered and it was a thrilling ride!

I found myself on the edge of my seat when Val's life is threatened and the person holding the gun will shock you.

The Woodstock family consists of some very disturbed and twisted relatives. I enjoyed sorting them all out and the ending to this very well written novel is brilliant!

This book had everything! Two women, best friends, trying to solve a murder. Well developed characters that I hope to hear more from.

Certainly an easy read, but not a great novel. Characters are interesting. Plot is pretty good. But two weeks later, I can hardly remember anything about it.

I recommend you read this book if you like characters such as Kinsey Milhone, or Stone Barrington, Holly Barker and those types. Excellent story with fun characters, Can't Wait to read more of these.

Yes, there are best friends that join together to solve the disappearance of a client. Unfortunately there was no real reason to do so. The women did not have a relationship with this woman and could not have identified her if they met on the streets. Could have been better if the authors had given a better reason to dig for answers.
