A world-view examiner, with flair, August 21, 2006
This review is from: Disappointment: Or the Light of Common Day (Paperback)
If the title and cover illustration make the book seem depressing--well, that shouldn't be the case. That would be one world view--a weak view, or "coloring" schema--to use. However, Fleming uses the book to explain his world view of accepting one's lot in life (however "bloody one's nose gets") and moving on with some sort of vigor. He does this by examining the concepts of religion, knowledge, and war, among other things, as well as by making interesting asides into (and intertwining with) African tribal art, for example. A deep and thought-provoking read.

An intense thought-provoking read!, June 22, 2006
This review is from: Disappointment: Or the Light of Common Day (Paperback)
Through literary, intellectual, pop culture and real-life examples, the author challenges one to re-examine the way one views reality and how much socialization in all its manifestations - language, religion, fashion, gender, culture, etc. - forms the "colorings" which affect one's perception of reality. An intense thought-provoking read, which furthermore inspires one to read and re-read passages of (other) books.
