I first saw Slow Runner when they opened for Jump, Little Children backin Feb. 2004, when they were playing under the name "Michael Flynn". Their live shows are phenomenal. Their recordings are quite a bit different from the live experiance, but certainly not in a bad way. I simply cannot take this CD out of my CD player! Each track is an absolute gem, full of talent, meaning, and pizaz.I highly reccomend this band, and this CD. www.myspace.com/slowrunner

Picked this up on a whim with a few other highlighted "Try These" CD's at Best Buy. Was really surprised on first listen - it was good! But, now that I can't seem to remove it from my player, it sticks in my head and is totally enjoyable as background to whatever I am doing at the time. I can't imagine anyone not loving this one. I'm sure glad I gave it a chance!

Michael Flynn and Slow Runner have put together a superb first recording. "You're in Luck" is just one of many songs from this CD that gets in your head and won't leave. Slow Runner is another example of the great music coming out of Charleston, SC (Jump Little Children, Michael Bellar, Hootie and the Blowfish, Cary Ann Hearst).

Quite possibly my favorite CD ever,

When I first got this album (through a friend), I was hesitant to give it a listen since I had never heard of Slow Runner before. But, I figured if I hated them I'd just turn it off and never listen to it again. After playing the CD for the first time 3 years ago, I 100% believe I will never have the heart to get rid of it. I absolutely love this album and have not come across a person who doesn't like it even a little. If you like the Ben Folds Five, Spoon, Fountains of Wayne or The Shins, you will love "No Disassemble!" I highly recommend buying it!

I saw Slow Runner open up for the Lemonheads at The Bowery Ballroom in NYC a few months ago. They played the music from this album, and they rocked. It's true they sounded a bit like Ben Folds Five, but the powerful, hard-driving bass/drums section gave the music more punch, more energy. And the guitarist helped keep things interesting, with unobtrusive texturing one moment and in-your-face walls of distortion the next. They were handing out free copies of this CD at the show, so I picked up three and planned to give two to friends with my highest recommendation. Unfortunately, this CD lacks the vibrant bottom-end power that made their live performance so engaging. What happened? This recording sounds thin and tinny, like French pop music. Is that a drum machine? After the phenomenal show, this CD was such a let down I couldn't even bring myself to send copies to my friends. My recommendation: pass on this album, but keep your ear out for their next one. Hopefully, Slow Runner will recognize what works and what doesn't, and their second album will be a better reflection of their ability. |
