Amazon.com Product Description

Remove the middleman (or middle machine) and go straight to the source with this Disc Clone one-to-one CD duplicator, which bypasses computers and copies discs directly with the touch of a single button. Simply pop the original disc into one drive, add a write-once or re-writable disc into the other, and hit the burn button. In short order, you'll receive a copied disc with no hassle or frustration, and without having to boot up your home computer. The Disc Clone is compatible with CD-R, CD-RW, audio CD, video CD, photo CD, data CD, mixed-mode CD, hybrid CD, CD extra, and mini CD formats, and records everything from your favorite music to your most treasured home movies to backup copies of oft-used software programs. Users won't have to worry about losing original discs to scratches or careless roommates, and they can also archive important documents and photos for long-term storage. In addition, the Disc Clone works quickly, with recording speeds as high as 40x.

The Disc Clone is more than just a standalone device, however. It connects to both PCs and Macs via the USB 2.0 interface for direct data transfer, with support for Windows 98 SE, Me, 2000, and XP operating systems or Mac OS 9.x and higher systems (including OS X).

Product Description

No computer required for hassle free operation. You can record audio(music), video(movies), data (software or documents), and avoid losing your original disk to scratches, over eager pets, adventurous children or simple accidents by making backups of your precious original discs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Value for the Money, March 6, 2005
This review is from: Disc Clone DCU-98002U 40x One-to-One CD Duplicator (Personal Computers)
Excellent Value. Recieved this product last week, and have used it daily since then. This will copy any form of CD, except Karaoke CD's, and any speed / size of CD-R/W (including those cool business card cd's - great for advertising). Copy time averages about 4 minutes if you use 40x cd-r dics. If not, the machine will automatically speed down to match the speed of your disc. I have burned copies onto 4x cd-rw's with no problem. Machine is fairly silent, other than the noice of the cd-rom drives themself. Connection to a Windows 98, 2000, ME, or XP computer by USB 2 is a breeze.

Operation: The operation is simple. You must wait 20 seconds for the machine to beep before you copy a disc. There are three buttons: Mode, Speed, and Run. Mode is used in the combinations listed below. Speed is the setting that they call "secure mode". From the literature I determined this to mean auto-sensing mode. Run starts a copy at full speed. Holding Run for 5 seconds enables "External Mode" in which you can connect to a computer by USB 2 and burn or read CD's.

Mode Combinations:
Mode + Speed: Erase CD-RW
Mode + Run: Flash Firmware

The only reason I gave this 4 instead of 5 stars is the button configuration, and the fact that you can't use both cd-rom drives via the USB connection. The buttons are labled strangly. Why not just call them Auto or Full Speed, instead of Speed and Run. Pressing combinations of Mode + Speed can be a little tricky if you have large hands like I do. I have a hard time using 2 fingers on the same hand to press the buttons. Other than that this machine is a great value for the price.

Note*** It is reconditioned, so condition may vary. Mine had a small chunk out of the front faceplate, but nothing major. Its not a piece of art, its a cd copier.

2.0 out of 5 stars WORKED FOR 3 MONTHS, July 26, 2005

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Disc Clone DCU-98002U 40x One-to-One CD Duplicator (Personal Computers)
I bought this item for my mother. She copied about 40 CDs over a 3 month period when it stopped working(right at the 3 month warranty period cutoff). She took it to a repair shop who said the microchip went out and would cost $50 to repair (more than 1/2 of what it cost to purchase it 3 months earlier). I contacted Amazon who said they would normally replace it, but couldn't because they couldn't get anymore from the manufacturer. Amazon took it back and refunded most of my money (less a $18.98 restocking fee). I'm kind of miffed about that, but I guess it's better than nothing. If it had worked, it would have been a great deal. All other duplicators that I've priced cost at least 3 times as much. I'm sure this one could have been a fluke and others work great, but I think this item needs a longer warranty period from either the manufacturer or Amazon for just this reason.

I had this item for over 10 years and have made thousands of copies. It just stopped working and would love to find a repair shop. It was well worth the 199.00 I paid for it. Nothing worked as hard, but nothing lasts forever. I am ordering a disccone 2 and hope it it the same.
