Madly In Love....,

This thing is genius and exactly what I didn't know I wanted. I had gone through my DVDs and gotten rid of the old ones, and I still had too many. I wasn't happy with my open DVD stand because it was bulky and, in my opinion, unsightly. But, I also didn't want to buy a high-end piece of furniture I liked bc I'd rather spend my money on other things.I stumbled on this by accident and I just got my first one. Before purchasing this unit I did alot of research on various units that store DVDs. I was excited by the electronic one but the reviews said it was loud and tended to break. This has no motor, so unless I am pounding on it or throwing it across the room, I can't imagine breaking it any time soon. And for less than $40, I'm thrilled. It was so easy to fill its silly. The software is easy to generate, edit, and move around. I kept pushing the button and 'ta da' the right DVD just pops up and when I'm done watching it, I just pop it back in. I realize how lazy that is to want to save the 5 seconds it takes to put the DVD back in the case. But, now that I have it sorted on their software I can find DVDs I'd forgotten I had. I swear I look through them all when I'm hunting for something to watch, but I just found two I forgot I even had! I'm buying two more for the rest of the DVDs and then I'm starting in on my computer and music CDs. I can't wait.

I got one of these just to give it a try, as I felt threatened by my growing collection of DVDs, CDs, and computer discs. It took all of an evening to fill the thing up, but it was really easy to do. I chose to organize the boxes of DVDs first, simply going online and listing them in the provided organizational program at Discgear. Then I printed the list in alphabetical order. At this point I took each disc out of its case, added its number with a permanent marker, and inserted it in the designated slot. As I did this, I decided not to store certain discs, perhaps because the movie was not one I'd ever watch again, or because the DVD was special or part of a boxed set, and I wanted to keep it on the shelf rather than in the Discgear case. I listed the special items on the Discgear index with the word "SHELF" added to the title. This left a few slots in the Discgear case empty, but there were very few of these, so it was worth it. After getting the list reprinted with modifications, the job was done, giving a GREAT feeling of satisfaction at no extra cost! Some of the DVD cases containing Disc 2 are kept in a little box in the garage, rather than in the case. I'll probably not refer to them, but I paid for them so will not throw them out. I put X after the title on the index to indicate that a second disc is available. I may decide to put the extra discs into the case at a later date. I discovered the hard way that there IS a locking mechanism on this case. It is a lever hidden under the open/close bars that is hard to spot even when you know where to look. The case, thankfully, was only a third full when I knocked it off the table, spilling its contents across the carpet. Duh. There is a black trash bag in the garage full of empty DVD cases. Wonder how long it will take me to get up the nerve to throw it out? That will probably happen when I face the fact that I'm too lazy to resell some items on Amazon.com. About the online software: 1) It offers several options to organize the list - for DVDs the most obvious choices are numerical or alphabetical by title. I discovered -after too much extra effort! - that if you add something in the artist/author column, such as "Spielberg" or "Depp," the alphabetical list would be by artist/author rather than by title! This seemed counterintuitive to me, so I had to go back to my list and delete all the artist/author information I'd so meticulously entered. Phooey! Other organizational columns are labeled "Category"- DVD, Blu Ray, etc. - and "Sub-category" - a drop-down list dependent upon the Category chosen. I wish these were not drop-down lists only, but rather gave an opportunity to add one's own notes. Maybe one could organize by Artist/Author separately if one wished, then. One would like to do that. 2) I chose to print off two lists, one numerical and one alphabetical. After trimming them down, both lists easily fit in the tray provided for them, one in the plastic sleeve, one under the plastic sleeve. 3) There is an option to print labels for your items, if you wish. Nice! 4) The order of the discs can be rearranged via a separate function. One would certainly want to do this BEFORE placing discs into the Discgear case, however! One would NOT want to have to renumber and move all those discs once they are in there, would one? A collection of DVDs that had filled seven small storage crates is now contained in this nifty little unit. The online organization is a super useful tool. The case itself is very sturdy and moderately attractive. I wish it had a slot to add a case designation, such as "Box A -Movies," as I had to add a label for this myself. That is necessary, as I'm back today to get two more of these, Box B for documentaries and TV series, and Box C for computer programs and storage discs. Gee, I wish I had invented this thing!

I bought three of these things. I bought one for my father in law, one for my mother's boyfriend and one for myself. I have a Xbox 360 and I buy alot of games and this product makes it very quick and easy to switch out games. Plus with the on line software you can type a list of disks and it even keeps the list for you so that you can update it whenever you want. I highly recommend this product.

I PURCHASED 2 DISCGEAR AUTO 100'S. I HAD READ THE PREVIOUS REVIEWS OF SATISFIED CUSTOMERS SO I DECIDED TO PURCHASE THIS ITEM. IT TAKES UP HARDLY ANY SPACE ON MY BOOKSHELVES. IT ELIMINATED THE HIGH PLASTIC FLOORSTORAGE RACKS YOU MUST KEEP IN THE ROOM. THE HINGED DOOR WORKS WELL. THE CATALOG INDEX PAGE IS GREAT. AMAZON.COM IS THE CHEAPEST DEALER FOR THIS PRODUCT. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE WHO HAS A MULTITUDE OF CDS LIKE I HAVE.

First one purchased I love the function and ordered a 2nd one.2nd one arrived and it was broken with no external damage visable to the outside packing box.Ordered the 3rd one and had Amazon send it to me at no charge and sent back the damaged one to Amazon. This 3rd one arrived A-OK but overall this is really a great Disc retrival system and I do love the concept, however if you drop this or handle in any way shape or form roughly it will damage as the unit cannot handle any rough handling whatsoever. Weather this devise will stand the test of time in normal duration I guess I will find out. 5 stars go out to Amazon themselves on backing up their products and handling this issue no questions asked. I liked the product. There was no problem with shipping and it was just as it was represented. The only complaint I have would probably apply to almost anybody out there selling merchandise. Instructions are a nightmare. They are usually in at least 5 to 10 languages and you guessed it, English is always the one that is shortchanged. It would be a much appreciated bonus if retailers would spend just a bit more effort putting out instructions that are clear and provide the purchaser with a reasonable picture of what he is attempting to do.

I ordered 2 of these to check out mostly because of the positive reviews. They are beyond my expectations.I might add that they have a very nice soft pleather skin with real stitching that give them an elegant touch. Selection is flawless and operation is smooth and really has a high end feel. After I cataloged most of my CDRs and backups, I decided I need 2 more of them for my DVDs, CD's, game console software and because they look so nice on my bookshelf. A great value for under [...]bucks, [...] if you need 4 of them. : )

The Discgar was a disappointment - it does not stay closed and the bottom tray with the insert for names of the DVDs does not slide out easily. The silver label on the left side of the box was missing - feel like I got one that was used and didn't work.

I bought two of these as soon as I saw them. I've been using the earlier Discgear units and these are much more durable and attractive. I also like the fact that the disc list is now in the drawer and not always displayed on the top like my previous units. They are available in brown too, but the black matched my system's components. This is the best investment for protecting my Blu-Ray disks!

I purchased 3 for Christmas gifts. My husband really loved his.. It's really great for storing all those CD's he's burned that we have no cases for. It's wonderful to get the extra CD's organized. The other two were well received as gifts. The faux leather looks great. What a deal! |
