5.0 out of 5 stars The benchmark of books on Discipleship
26 years ago I started using the principles Walt develops in this classic. Of the scores of books I have read on mentoring, discipling, follow-up, I regard this one as the best.

2.0 out of 5 stars I was disappointed
This book is an introduction to disciple making, designed to be taught in either an adult Sunday School class or in a small group for laymen. Much of the content of the book is based on Navigator techniques of discipling converts in the basics of the faith, rather than reproducing leaders in the church. This is the book's main weakness.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is a must for every Christian's library!, October 20, 1998

This book should be in every Christian's library of resources. After discipling college students for about 15 years, this is the book I use most often to introduce students to discipleship. Henrichsen clearly demonstrates the ability of addressing many of the necessary aspects of discipleship. While this book includes great theology, it is written for those Christians who are desiring to "prove themselves do-ers of the Word, not mearly hear-ers." If you are interested in impacting eternity by investing in the lives of other Christians, then you need this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Standard in Discipleship, March 17, 2000
This book covers it all. I use it as a training tool for both my high school and college ministries. It is a must for all who aspire to fulfill the Great Commission among young people.

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll love this book on mentoring-discipling, September 24, 2005
This review is from: Disciples Are Made Not Born (Paperback)
The author has written a fresh, classic book in the field of discipling others, as did Jesus. It is biblically thorough, and practical. Among the 25 books I have in this field it rates as one of the top 4. I recommend it in my classes and to those I mentor-disciple. Dr. Waylon B. Moore

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality introduction, February 5, 2008
This review is from: Disciples Are Made Not Born (Paperback)
This short but comprehensive overview begins with information on being a disciple of Christ personally, and then moves to cover evangelism and follow-up. Hendrichsen discusses the stages of the disciple making process, including selection, imparting basics, and then multiplying. Important themes in this book include developing conviction in others and appreciating the calling of God.

The book isn't an advanced coverage of the elements involved, but an excellent and inspiring introduction.

2.0 out of 5 stars I was disappointed, August 7, 2003

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Disciples Are Made Not Born (Paperback)
This book is an introduction to disciple making, designed to be taught in either an adult Sunday School class or in a small group for laymen. Much of the content of the book is based on Navigator techniques of discipling converts in the basics of the faith, rather than reproducing leaders in the church. This is the book's main weakness.

This is not to say that the church is without merit. I especially appreciated the author's emphasis that we recruit people to a vision and his emphasis on faithfulness in refuting disciples. Of course, his stress on multiplication of disciples is good. He states that true discipleship is not is not complete until the new convert is able to reproduced himself by brining another person to Christ and training that person to reproduce himself also. It reminded me to keep the course we have chosen. It reinforced my decision to begin small and work big rather than trying to start a church-wide discipleship study. It also reminded me not to recruit people merely to sustain the organization rather than calling them to fulfill the vision.

The author spends too much time restating the obvious. Unlike Hull's "The Disciple Making Pastor" Hendrichsen fails to adequately address the presuppositions and internal structures of the church that inhibit true discipleship.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book., January 2, 2012
This review is from: Disciples Are Made Not Born (Paperback)
This book was recommended to me by my pastor, and I am glad that he did. It gave better understanding of what discipleship entails and why it is important. For me, it made me look at my own walk with Christ and evaluate it. It is straightforward and a good reference book to have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond My Expectations, November 5, 2010

This review is from: Disciples Are Made Not Born (Paperback)
I didn't know what to expect when I bought this book because I had never read anything by this author nor was I very familiar with the Navigators ministry. Needless to say, I was very impressed by the practicality of the book as well as the "down-to-earth" language in which the discipleship principles were taught. Being currently in ministry, I found this book to be just what I needed, right when I needed it. You can't go wrong with this book...one of the best of its kind!
