Book Description

Respected Disciples Michael Kinnamon and Jan Linn address the reclamation of the identity of the Disciples movement in a way that encourages reform of worship, fellowship, and mission. Acting as guides, the authors help congregations to reflect on who the Disciples are today, and discuss the reforms needed in the denomination for moving into the future. By strengthening the church's own identity as Disciples of Christ, the partnership in God's mission of peacemaking and compassionate service participation can be enhanced.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"If you don t know where you have been, you will have a hard time discovering where you ought to go. Every institution, family, nation, religion, has a unique story that defines its essence, and each new generation must hear it. Without these stories little hope can be generated for the development of a common future-oriented covenant. The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) has a story. Linn and Kinnamon tell it, and use it as a way to point to what they see to be a vital future. While not uncritical of the denomination s current malaise, they devoutly maintain that our best days are still to come." ---Charles Bayer, coordinator for Progressive Christians Uniting and author of Reclaiming the Christian Faith

4.0 out of 5 stars Disciples idenity, February 1, 2010

This review is from: Disciples: Reclaiming Our Identity, Reforming Our Practice (Paperback)
Knowing both of these authors personally I have to say my review is biased. They are different in style which shows but there is a balance in the representation of Disciples identity. I'm still reading the book but do find it quite interesting and very much what is needed to be heard for the Christian Church (Disicples of Christ) for today.
