5.0 out of 5 stars This book challenged and changed my life
This book cuts right to the chase for the Christian. Elliot puts forth the truth with a punch. I was personally challenged on how I live my life. As I read and reread this book it focused me on what is really important and that changed my life for the better. I refer to this book often and quote it more times than I can count. Excellent investment for any Christian...

1.0 out of 5 stars Mostly Christian BS
I enjoyed the beginning of this book very much since I am submitting my will to that of God as I understand Her. But then the book degenerated into the kind of Christian BS that it took me years to get out of my mind. I usually have great respect for books but this one offended me so much that I destroyed it. If you're not blinded by Christianity, then avoid this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Discipline: The Glad Surrender, March 24, 2000

This review is from: Discipline: The Glad Surrender (Paperback)
This is a really good book where Elisabeth Elliot draws from her own experience in surrendering to God. She speaks about how surrendering to discipline is something that will make life better rather than giving it all up. And like all of Elliot's books, it is incredibly well written.

5.0 out of 5 stars Discipline, the Glad Surrender, March 10, 2005
This review is from: Discipline: The Glad Surrender (Paperback)
I'm an avid Elisabeth Elliot reader and stumbled upon this classic while purchasing another one of her books.
Once again, Elliot goes back to the basics; outlining through her own experience and scripture what a disciplined life should look like. Her practicality and ability to share the truth in a clear and concise way are once again the foundation of her writing. It was refreshing and challenging to be reminded that a disciplined life doesn't happen spontaneously, but is rather a slow and painful process that requires daily dying to self and living for God. Elliot outlines chapter by chapter the quadrants of life and the benefits of being disciplined in each respective area. If you want to be challenged to see the eternal perspective in everyday life, this book is a must read!

I read alot of christian books. I have read none more times than this one. Elisabeth Elliot hits upon all the areas of one's life and applies daily principles of obedience to each; work, time, place etc...
It would not be possible for me to recommend a book more highly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thought-provoking and Encouraging, March 9, 2010

This book feels like a conversation with Elisabeth Elliot. She is very real about her own struggles. It challenged me and caused me to look at some things from a different perspective. The connection she makes between discipleship and discipline is fundamental to us as believers. While she clearly states her own feelings on being disciplined in particular areas of our life, it never feels like a reprimand but more like someone who is down the path a ways, pausing to offer us her wisdom. A good read for women and men.

Elisabeth Elliot has earned her reputation well with works such as this. Her matter-of-fact approach to personal and spiritual discipline makes the living of a disciplined life seem simple. All aspects of her philosophy are, of course, thoroughly biblical. A must read for any Christian seeking spiritual maturity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great encouragement!, October 28, 2011

This book by Elisabeth Elliot is an inspiration to live a more disciplined life. I gave it to my sister for her birthday and she is greatly enjoying reading it. I like how it's broken up into sections so that I can read a little bit each night before I go to bed, even if I'm not able to read an entire chapter.
