Format: Paperback
Howard Thurman gives in five tightly packed chapters a guide to a more God filled life using five disciplines; Commitment, Wisdom, Suffering, Prayer, and Reconciliation. He offers illustrations and concrete suggestions on how to achieve a more spiritual filled life. Even though the language, in terms of gender, is outdated, this is a must read book!

The "Souper" Book Group at Emmanuel UCC in Sebring, Florida read and discussed Thurman's book, Disciplines of the Spirit. We found it to be a "read" and "reread" book. To gain the most from his deeply spiritual presentation the reader needs to do a fast read-through and then a line-by-line study with note taking. A healthy and interesting discussion was enjoyed by our entire group. If you want to grow spiritually, we highly recommend this book.

It is interesting to me that I found this man though a youtube quote of a runner who I know nothing about. I was looking up something on Oswald Chambers and found this runner quoting Chambers and made it me wonder about the runner, so I watch another video where he quoted Thurman.
It was simple and inspiring, it was matter of fact and stirring, So to is this book, it is very, very thought filled and quite worth reading. In the book Thurman also quoted Simone Weil, someone else whose thoughts and personality speaks to me.

"Never lose your sense of wonder" O.C.

Dr. Thurman was an amazing man, however, his thoughts and wise words are not to be read in a hurry. This book requires much thought .
