An Already Solid Album Just Got Better.,
By A. Estes (Maine) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Disclaimer II (Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
"Disclaimer II" is a bit shameful. It is obvious this re-release of Seether's 2002 debut was put out not only to cash in on the buzz surrounding the re-make/collaboration of "Broken" (featuring new vocals and string arrangements by Amy Lee of Evanescence & frontman Shaun Morgan's girlfriend) that has been floating around the airwaves all spring/summer, but also to fill in the space where the band should be releasing a second album (of which, there are still no plans officially in place). Nevertheless, their label, Wind-Up, has put together an awesome deluxe package for us all to eat up at a reasonable price. In addition to the eight non-album tracks tacked on, we are treated to a bonus DVD which is the host of all of Seether's music videos ("Gasoline," "Fine Again," "Driven Under," "Broken"), a short "Making-Of" featurette for the "Broken" video, and a 30-minute concert that plays out Seether's best material. The original album (on here, the first 12 songs) are also re-mixed by Bob Marlette (Saliva, Ill Nino) and have a few noticeable differences from the original mixes -- especially on "Driven Under," which benefits from some beefier guitar tones in the chorus. The b-sides are a nice addition. You'll remember a few of them from soundtracks: The heavier "Out Of My Way" and "Hang On" appeared on the "Freddy Vs. Jason" and "Daredevil" soundtracks, respectively. The uncut version of "Sold Me" (from "The Punisher" soundtrack) is a nice touch, and it's kinda of cool to compare the two versions of "Broken" on the same disc (a lot of fans are split down the middle, I think they're both great). The rest of the songs are either completely new or just re-workings of old demos from when the band went by the name of Saron Gas, the highlights of this series being "Love Her" and "Cigarettes." As for the original album, it's got a nice mix of slower songs ("Fine Again," "Broken"), anthems ("Sympathetic," "69 Tea") and grinding hard-rockers ("Needles," "Pig"). If you liked the original, you should pick up this package that basically expands on the experience (even if it may be just a cheap cash-in). Plus, I get the feeling it's still gonna be a while before we hear new material from these guys...

This review is from: Disclaimer II (Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
Is Disclaimer II worth it for the bonus songs and DVD? Absolutely. Of course, this CD comes with both the original Broken as well as the new one from The Punisher Soundtrack w/ Amy Lee. Surprisingly, the 8 bonus songs are all actually really good -- including Hang On from the Daredevil soundtrack, Out of My Way, Sold Me, and Got It Made.
The DVD includes 4 music videos as well as the making of the Broken video with interviews with Amy Lee and Seether. More importantly, the DVD gives you great concert footage of 8 songs including great performances of 69 Tea, Gasoline, Sympathetic, and the acoustic version of Broken. Also, the CD insert includes the lyrics. Good stuff.

IF I COULD GIVE IT 6 STARS I WOULD,
By RockBoi (London, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Disclaimer II (Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
I will first admit that I didn't purchase the original version of Disclaimer as I only got into Seether about 4 months ago. So after hearing that it was to be re-released with extra songs and a DVD I thought I would wait for that. Upon receiving this on the day of release, I stuck it straight into my CD player and cranked it up. Being a Nirvana fan, I can make some comparisons along the lines of they sound rather similair. For me, the best songs are Gasoline, Fine Again, Driven Under, Sympathetic and Broken (with Amy Lee). This is probably the first album that I own with which I have no alarms toward any song - they are all absolutely brilliant ! Now I suppose I shall wait until 2005 for the proper follow-up and if it is anything like Disclaimer (musically), then I can't wait. Also - I have heard a lot of people compare Seether to Staind. All I can say to that is that apart from 'Break The Cycle', Staind are yet to produce anything of any quality - whereas Seether have managed it with their first try and hopefully Seether's next album will be just as good.

Better Than The Origional,
By
This review is from: Disclaimer II (Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
I had bought "Disclaimer" about 2 years ago,and I couldnt believe my ears. This was the first album from a New Band that I liked Every song on the album. When I feard that they were gonna re-release it with extra tracks,I didnt think I was gonna buy it because I had the soundtracks with the extra songs on it.But I looked on the back and saw that there were a few songs that I had never heard.I decided to buy it and I couldnt be more pleased with what I got.Although most of the songs that are on the origional release arent changed, there are a few songs that were re-done.Although they arent really Big changes to the songs, they did make the songs alot better. These are the songs that I noticed changes : "PIG" "FADE AWAY" "NEEDLES" and of course "BROKEN".My favorite song that they re-done is "Pig".My Favorite New Track would have to be "Cigarrettes".It Reminds Me of Nirvana. With this being said I strongly recommend EVERY Seether fan to pick this one up.Its very well worth the money even if you already have the origional release.Plus the Bonus DVD Has All There videos and a 30 min. Concert. That in itself is worth the money, let alone the 8 extra Tracks.BUY THIS NOW!!!

A Real Band,
By Gregory Josh Matheny "a_drummer_named_josh" (Napoleon, Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Disclaimer II (Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
Seether is a Real Band. There is no filler on this Album. Seether sounds like the kind of band who puts their heart into their songs, every song. There isnt a single bad song on this Cd. Sure, some arent as good as others, but I definately would never skip through a Seether song.
Gasoline -10/10- A Great Song. Very Hard, Very Catchy all at once. The Lyrics could creep out the weak of heart, but us hardcore people dont mind a lil blood every now and then. Terrific song, probably my Favorite Seether Song. 69 Tea -8/10- A Good Song. Good, as in comparison to other Seether songs on this CD. If it was on a Soundtrack or whatever, it would be the best song on there, but it simply cannot compare to the better songs on the CD, and for that reason it's an 8. And An 8 doesnt make it a bad song, I still like this song alot. Fine Again -10/10- I believe this was their first single, if Im not mistaken which is possible I Am. I first heard this song and thought it was nice, but I'd pass over it. But the more I Heard it, the more It grew on me. Fantastic Song, wonderful. Needles -8/10- A Very Hard Song by Seether. The Lyrics lack a certain pizzazz that most Seether songs are, but this isnt a song to take too lightly. I Think its a good song when you're in the mood to rip someones head off. Driven Under -10/10- Sheer Genius. I cant help but to just love this song. A Slower song by Seether, but that doesnt make it any less amazing. The Lyrics are dead-on and honest, but leave room for interpretation, which is a good thing. This song can mean so many things to so many people, and still be just as amazing. My Second Favorite Song On the CD Probably. Pride -8/10- My Friend Heather loves this Song. It's not my favorite Seether Song, but definately worth a listen. Sympathetic -7/10- Something is lacking. If there was one filler track, it'd be this one. But considering there is 20 Tracks, I dont expect any filler. If I were to skip a song, it'd be this one. Your Bore -8/10- Pretty Bland, and cut from the crop of Seether songs. But nothing is surprisingly really wrong with this song. It's Solid, it's enjoyable, and singable. Not a song I would skip over. Fade Away -10/10- A Slow Seether Song. But powerful none-the-less. It doesnt seem quite like a Ballad, but it may just be Seether's one attempt at a ballad. The Lyrics arent cutting too deep, but they do gleam emotion. Pig -9/10- A Harder song like Gasoline. Sorta makes me wanna play Air Guitar everytime I listen to it. It has a beautiful mix of slower and harder parts, which I think Seether pulls off very well, and this song is a very good example of it. FXXK It -10/10- Wow, what can I Say. It's an amazing song. Surprisingly Hard, and Slow. This plays Seether songs very well if you know what I mean, this song is what Seether does best. My Number Three Favorite song, but it's a good contender for number two. I listen to this Track all the way through, everytime I Hear it. It's so aggressive, and during the Versus, so passive/aggrisive that it makes the Extremely Hard Chorus even Harder sounding. Broken -10/10- The original version of Broken without Amy Lee. This was on Disclaimer I, and the verison with Amy Lee wasnt. Metal fans say that Amy Lee ruined it, and they love this version better. Frankly, I could listen to either one, and love it just the same. Sold Me -7/10- A Very Hard Song, but Seether doesnt seem to pull it off too well in comparison with all their others. It sounds sort of Nirvana-esque on the Drumming, which is a nice change of sort, but just not Seether's complete style. I'd skip this one. Cigarettes -7/10- Cigarettes are mini-cigars. Seriously, look at the name... Cigar-ettes. Isnt that crazy? Anyway. Not my favorite song, but Im sure somebody out there would like it. I like it, just in comparison with the other awesome songs, it gets a Seven. Love Her -9/10- Alright, now at this Track on the CD, Seether starts kicking it back into gear and doing what they do best. Emotional Music. Seether is better than Staind, because Seether is more real. Staind is too "Parents Suck I Hate Them" which is aggrivating after a long while, but Seether is more into Love Relationships. Take Me Away -9/10- Yes, yes. (claps) Acoustic sounds very good with Seether's Style. Im surprised more songs arent Acoustic. (wipes tear) Just lovely. Got It Made -8/10- Something is missing from this song, I cant exactly put my finger on it. Like, they couldve made it better somehow, someway. And all I can think about is ways to improve this song everytime I hear it. But it gets an 8 because all my other friends seem to enjoy this song and find nothing wrong with it. Out Of My Way -9/10- Interesting change of pace for Seether. Sounds like they tried to do pop-rock while keeping their usual Grunge-ish sound. Surprisingly they pulled it off quite well. Hang On -8/10- Sounds like most of other Seether songs. But it's not as good. Which isnt a bad thing ,I'd still not skip this track. It's just repetitive up to this point, mabey if it was earlier in the CD it would sound better. Broken Amy Lee -10/10- Like I said, some people hate this version, saying that Amy Lee ruined it. And I dont like Evanescence, I truly dont. Im an Avid-Evan hater. But I dont think she ruined this song. It was a great song without her, and a great song with her. She just added a new level to it, which doesnt take away from it. But she doesnt really ADD anything to it except her voice.

I personally am I big Seether fan. I like his sound even though I do feel that he sometimes tries a little too hard to be like Kurt Cobain. Still good though. I love the version of "Broken" featuring Amy Lee of Evanescence, since I am also a huge fan of Evanescence as well. I think their voices compliment each other in a great way. The rest of the tracks on this CD are great as well and I'll have this CD in my collection for a very long time.

One of the best rock/metal albums of all time...,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Disclaimer II (Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
To fans who want a lot of metal, this CD is not a metal CD. There are some definite metal songs, but it's only about 1/4 of the CD. Here there is mostly hard rock, some ballads, and sad rock songs. Seether may not be very popular, but they definitely deserve to be. Here is what I think of Disclaimer 2:
1. Gasoline-5/5. Excellent, part metal part rock song that could not be any better. When a girlfriend hates you, burn her house down! 2. 69 Tea-2/5. This song is ok, but it doesn't make much sense, and the religious line has nothing to do with the song. 3. Fine Again-5/5. Great, probably the best song on the CD. The concept of hard times is a great topic for a song. 4. Needles-5/5. Evil metal song with an excellent hate idea. 5. Driven Under-4/5. This song is good when it starts out, but after a little while it is dragged out. 6. Pride-5/5. Sounds similar to Drowning Pool's "Bodies," but is no way the same idea. 7. Sympathetic-5/5. Great song about being nice. This just proves that Seether may be evil sometimes, but they are more for being good people than hateful metalheads. 8. You Bore-4/5. This song isn't bad, but all in all it seems that it was thrown on the CD for no reason. 9. Fade Away-4/5. Good, I can't say anything else. 10. Pig-5/5. A wierd title, but it holds great and is another metal song. 11. FXXX It-5/5. A ridicoulous amount of cursing, but a very good job done doing so. 12. Broken-2/5. This song is ok, but the one with Amy Lee from Evanescence is a hundred times better. 13. Sold Me-5/5. Metallica band sounding, but holds it's own evil. The singing isn't metal, but the music is. 14. Cigarettes-5/5. Cigarettes? Don't get what the title has to do much with the song, but ignore the title and it's a good song. 15. Love Her-5/5. Excellent; a song about love that a rock band that likes Metal makes. This song is one of the many that help Seether stand up from other bands. 16. Take Me Away-5/5. The concept has been used many times (Examples Fefe Dubson Take me Away and Avril Lavigne Take me Away), but Seether was one of the earlyier ones, so five stars for this great song. 17. Got It Made-5/5. A rock band always has it made. It would be great to have it made. A song to envy. 18. Out of My Way-5/5. Excellent. Metal and evil. 19. Hang On-4.5/5. Pretty good, but a little dead for a Seether Song. 20. Broken feat. Amy Lee-5/5. Best song on the CD, a duet with Amy Lee of Evanescence. Shaun Morgan the lead singer and Amy Lee have been dating for some time, so a collaboration was set to be made some time, and here it is. One of the best songs ever made. All In all, if you like Metal, Hard Rock, or ballads, this CD is for you. I would not call Seether a metal band, but this CD I recommend who likes loud, quiet, or in the middle songs. Seether's Disclaimer 2 also comes with a DVD with the videos Gasoline, Fine Again, Driven Under, Broken, and the making of Broken, along with a bunch of life preformances. It is also very enjoyable. Live they sound almost the same as the album, and that's a good thing.

This is actually very good,
This review is from: Disclaimer II (Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
I did not expect to like this album. I had the choice between this and "The Greyest of Blue Skies" by Finger Eleven. I decided I didn't have enough fast-paced albums, so I got Disclaimer II by Seether. It was not fast-paced, but its actually extremely great musically. The songs near the end tend to sound kind of similar, but they are actually an extremely talented band (I'm listening to the CD right now as I write this). There are a few songs I don't like (Gasoline and FXXX It), but they are all extremely catchy. I have spent many hours of my life with a seether song stuck in my head. I also love the instruments. But I do agree with some other reviewers that the lyrics could be better. The lyrics are almost all about girl troubles, kind of like Puddle of Mudd. I like it though. His voice could be a little higher, though. It's a little too low. Broken is my favorite song, though, I don't care if I'm unoriginal. It is so beautiful, even if it's repetative and simple. The artwork in the CD cover is also great. A little bizarre, but its very attractive.

Much better than the original "Disclaimer",
By John "The Man" (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Disclaimer II (Bonus DVD) (Audio CD)
When I first heard that Seether was re-releasing "Disclaimer" I was a little worried that they were on the verge of selling-out. But out of respect for the band, I bought this CD on the day of its release. I was 100% WRONG on my original thoughts of the CD.Seether has re-recorded, and re-mastered the truly awesome songs off of "Disclaimer" and they sound so much better. The remastered songs sound 100% better and more professional than the original cuts of the songs on "Disclaimer". Even the band says on their website that they were never truly happy with the original mastered versions of the songs. The added guitar harmonics in "Driven Under" just gave me chills, they blend together so well with the song. Seether also has added 8 new tracks to the CD. All of the new tracks are excellent, except for the new version of "Broken" which features guest vocalist Amy Lee from Evenescense. The original acoustic version of "Broken" was so much better than the new one made for "The Punisher" album. Amy Lee's vocals are too loud and they completely drown out the original and better vocals of the ACTUAL composer of the song, Shaun Morgan. It's not Amy Lee's song, so why does she have to be more noticable than Shaun, who created the song in the first place?? But aside from all of that, the extra tracks are awesome. "Sold Me" is one of the greatest songs I have ever heard, and "Got It Made" is right up there too. The only other flaw with this album (other than the new version of "Broken") is the title. "Disclaimer II" just doesn't sound right. It sounds like a movie sequel. I know it's a minor problem, but come on, I would have taken something like "Disclaimer: Special Edition" or "Disclaimer: Remastered" or something like that, but "Disclaimer II" just sounds stupid and half-assed, like they didn't wanna spend time picking out a name that worked. But the name doens't effect the awesomeness of the CD in any way. It was just something that bothered me. The Bonus DVD is awesome. The live footage is truly worth having and the videos are pretty cool as well. So, over all, "Disclaimer II" is truly an awesome CD. If you were a big fan of "Disclaimer", like I was, times that by like 100 and you end up with "Disclaimer II". This album is definately worth the buy for old and new Seether fans. Just re-release the new version of "Broken" either without Amy Lee, or just take her vocal level down just a little bit so we can actually hear Shaun Morgan, and Seether will be on its way to being one of the greatest hard rock bands out right now.(...) |
