5.0 out of 5 stars The Classics are Still King
DJ Keoki has released many DJ mixed CD's under the Moonshine label. This is the best out of all of them. Keoki has two primary talents: making music and mixing music. I have never had the pleasure of hearing Keoki live but from what he can do just on this CD I will see him anywhere I can, this first chance I get.

DJ mixing is harder than you might think. Anyone...

2.0 out of 5 stars From today's perspective, it is completely dated.
Although it has a few highlites, this album still isn't any better to me than a 4/10

Maybe If I bought this album back when it was released my opinions would be different. But I didn't. I've had it for about 2 years and its been given more than its fair share of listening. The bottom line is that this is not an impressive cd. At least half the music here is...

Anyone can do it but not just anyone can do it well. There is a lot of though that goes into song selection and blending. I never knew how hard it is until I tried it myself. I am nowhere near as good as Keoki is mixing and that is what sets him apart from the rest. Believe me, to mix well is as good a talent as playing any instrument. You must have a musical gift.

As I said earlier, his song selection here is a little more mainstream if you are familiar with the world of Techno music. Most of his choices here seem to be from the early days of Speed Garage. The output on the CD is a little bit low compared to his other releases but it is enough to rearrange your furniture. This CD was released in 1996 so it has some of the late eighties and early nineties sounds to it.

Many of the Tracks are classics now. The best tracks are #5) XI XI - Feel So Good; interpret this title any way that you want, #12) Cube 40 - You Make Me Function; a nice little ballad devoted to those who depend on each other and #6) Interface - Believe; a great example of early `hard trance.'

If you are looking for a nice entry into DJ mixed CD's or if you like classic Techno mixes than this would be good for you. This is a great starter for anyone interest in electronic music. But don't take my word for it, what do I know anyway? Check it out and find out for yourself. :)

You either love him or hate him, but you have to respect his mixing skills. This mix starts off with a bang (everybody thinks i'm high) and twists and turns every which way. A few tracks in the middle lacked the normal Keoki umph, but I know it keeps me moving. Trully, a Techno God!

This is a great album, to say the least. I once owned it but then lost it and have been regretting it ever since. It's such a classic. I need to go buy another copy of it.

This dj is known for his acidic, hypnotic beats, and mixing all funkdified sounds together.I'd get this cd just to listen to the speed racer song...damn ,that track will get you all tweaked up and ready for the night. This is the only Keoki cd I'll own because the others are worth crap. This is yet another essential dance album

This mix album stands out from the crowd in several ways. First off, at a time in which nearly every mix album seems to be trance, "Disco Death Race 2000" has a much more old-school feel to it. There are a lot of synth bits and samples from the early nineties, and therefore a rawer, harder sound than a lot of today's techno. Keoki's not a stellar DJ, but he does a great job here. He ignores peaks and valleys and instead opts for a smooth, comfortable cruise through techno of a few years ago. If older techno is still okay by you, this is a great mix to pick up.

And yes, this mix DOES have the infamous Speed Racer track ("Go Speed Go" by Alpha Team). It may be cheesy and a novelty, but I really like it. (To win they'll stop at nothing! Let's break that speed barrier!) Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best from Keoki so far., August 17, 1999

This disc in my opinion, is the best from Keoki yet, with "Ego-Trip" at a close second. Wonderful little tunes like "Go Speed Go" give you exactly what you'd expect from superstar Keoki.

4.0 out of 5 stars One Of DJ Keoki's Better Albums, August 5, 2005
This review is from: Disco Death Race 2000 (Audio CD)
Although I still find some parts of this album repetitive and boring, there is enough here to cheer about. It does have a few winners on it, surely. The best song on here is the opener by Cranium HF. The 30 second sample doesn't do it justice. Check it out.

This is THE best techno/electronica/etc. album ever! I have had this album for about 8 years now and have yet to top it. If you have ANY interest in the above genres or Keoki, get this album. It will be one of the best that you ever buy!

DJ Keoki is known for techno that kicks ass, no matter what what kind of fan you are. Disco Death Race will not let you down, especailly the speed racer mix. If for nothing else, buy it for that song. It is a must have for any party mix.
