4.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT CD, DEFINITELY WORTH HAVING (BUT BUYERS BEWARE!) , May 10, 2005
By A Music Fan "DJ Steve" (NY/NJ Metro Area) - See all my reviews

Boris Midney (composer), released superb, avant-garde club music under various names, "Beautiful Bend," "USA/European Connection" and "Disco Evita" by Festival being among his most popular. Not only were each of these albums (now on CD), great to listen to, they got everyone out on the dance floor and still would, a testament to the timeless quality of the music. Who doesn't remember dancing to "Buenos Aires" and "Don't Cry For Me, Argentina?" Like the Ritchie Family's "Arabian Nights," songs like these were pure sensual, musical escapism that seemed to transport you to these places while you danced the night away. And in the hands of a good DJ, a simple lyric with its escalating, pulsating beat from "Eva's Theme (Lady Woman)," - "Why did you have to look so good, so good..." brought the night and everybody to a fever pitch. Unforgettable music for unforgettable times.

However, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND that, no matter how much you want this in your collection, you DO NOT purchase this at a price of more than $20.00. This CD can be found on this or other Amazon sites, or via any good search engine using the key words "Festival," "Midney" and "Evita." I was told by the vendor selling this CD at a price of $250.00 (!!) that it was "extraordinarily rare and very much in demand," which according to him, warranted the asking price (since removed, thankfully), of $250.00. This has been reissued on Boris Midney's OZ Record label and by Polygram/Chronicles so THAT IS NO LONGER THE CASE (you might try searching on this and other Amazon sites and search engines with that info.) Let me tell you as both a DJ and the owner of over 5,000 CDs - I have NEVER paid over $30.00 for any single CD (and I have many that are now out-of-print, rare, DJ-only mixes AND hard-to-find CDs), and NEITHER SHOULD YOU!!

This IS an excellent CD, worth having at a REGULAR price, and with a little perserverence, you'll soon relive those great times again listening to what sounds every bit as good today as it did back then!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Midney's Best, December 4, 1999
By A Customer
Along with Cerrone, Don Ray and Alec Constandinos, Boris Midney is considered one of the stalwarts of 70s Eurodisco. Being an old school 70s DJ, I'm very familiar with his work. I think the first USA-European Connection album (late 1977) and the Caress album (summer 1979) are the best things he did. Evita is strictly a hit-or-miss proposition, hurt by the awful male backup singer Kevin Owens. Rainbow High and She is a Diamond fare far better, largely because he isn't heard much on them (hey, Luther Vandross was available for disco backup singing at that time...too bad no one thought to sign him up!) Evita as a whole lacks the spacy head disco feel that Midney acheived with UEC and Caress.

5.0 out of 5 stars A TRIP BACK TO THE THRILLING DAYS OF YESTER YEARS !, November 4, 2002
By J Pro (lehigh valley, Pennsylvania.) - See all my reviews
This is the album I have been searching for. It takes me back to the days of disco dancing, being on the floor at 3 am, and partying with my friends. It makes me think i'm young again just to listen to one of the clips. Don't cry for me Argentina, I'd be surprizingly good for you. Buenos Aires, all are fantastic. Just wish a DJ came along with the CD.

This is another in a long list of classics from the genius of Boris Midney. Like his other productions, this album is timeless. This is the way Evita was meant to be heard.

I've been waiting years for this to come out on CD. This was one of my favorite albums in 1980/1981. Excellent melodies (thank you Mr. Webber) set to an excellent beat.
