3.0 out of 5 stars Music to get ready for a funkin' nite on the town!, March 8, 2001
By "wickedlollies" (Sydney, Australia) - See all my reviews
I first saw the whole Hed Kandi collection and practically died because the covers just looked sooo damn funky. Finally with a bit of spare money in my pocket, I picked my most favourite cover, and bought it, and am soo glad that I did.

What is it made up of? Funky phatt house with sparkling disco and garage tracks. That's pretty much what the CD lables itself as aswell. The CD begins with a steady funky groove, and by the final track on the second CD, you're looking at tracks that have every inch of you needing to release some really phatt moves!

Of course there are winner tracks, and then some that aren't quite as good. I gave it 3 starts because even though some songs I can't get sick of hearing, some I just don't want to hear that often. The only other bad thing I'd say is that it's not really that good for general sit down listening. The Intro's are just way too damn long. Excellent though as I said to get ready for a nite out on the town, having friends over for a party, etc... It's got alot of thumping bass, killer melodies (some get really stuck in your head!) and i must add that having the CD itself is kinda cool! The case's pic is gorgeous, it's a cool open out three tier I spose you could say kind of case (??!!!), and the wording inside and out add for extra enjoyment (for example, warning on the CD's themselves, DO NOT EAT!).

ust quickly, some of those winner tracks are; Santessa 'Nowhere', Blue Six 'Pure' (pretty good, though I do like the remix on Nude Dimensions 2 better though), Superfunk feat. Ron Carrol 'Lucky Star' (really discoy!), Roger Sanchez feat. Cooly's Hot Box 'I never knew', and the final song on the whole compilation just is thye most perfect track to finish on, it's Dana Dawson with '3 is Family'. Total sing along overly positive happy song that always makes me feel damn good!

I really do recommend this for all house Disco lovers, one that totally goes off! Njoy life always...and this kinda music helps!

5.0 out of 5 stars the best compilation of the disco kandi's!, December 1, 2002
By Hafid Saba (Scottsdale, AZ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Disco Kandi, Vol. 2 (Audio CD)
I've listened to all of the compilations except vol 4 and 5.02 but this one is WELL worth a look into. There are a ton of tracks here I want to point out as notable (the good stuff):

thrill me
lil devious
misled
at night
take me in your arms
and it hurts
love foolosophy - best remix yet!!!
the music
Hazin'
nowhere
here is the joy
moody
down down down

That's a lot of tracks to recommend so obviously I really liked this compilation. If you've read my other reviews of these compilations, the other don't come close to having as many good tracks in my opinion. Well worth a buy! You'll dance till your knees go weak :)

This album is all about good disco, good vocals, and good fun. Do I really need to say more?

4.0 out of 5 stars A solid primer for the big night out, October 29, 2000
By Richard Diaz (Centerville, OH United States) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
The stylish folks at Hed Kandi are carving out a nice little niche of house and disco compilations, and this, their second in the series and twelfth release overall, is a pleasing slice of dance-friendly, mostly underground cuts. The emphasis here is slower vocal house and latin-flavored grooves, slowly stroking the party over 22 songs an excitable lather.

Santessa's gentle summer anthem "Nowhere," is the first and best song you'll find, but there's plenty to choose from: the floor-filler "(Do the) Spanish Hustle," the Aretha-led hug of "Rise Up" and the guitar strummin' "La Chitara" all stand out among the more obvious but effective cuts.

DJ-holics should be prepared to find these selections unmixed (a practice as rare in dance as the polyester suit) . Frankly, in an era where the mantra is "Power to the ProTools" it's quite refreshing.

A solid primer for that big night out. Grade: B
