More 12" long versions--EDITED,
By
This review is from: Disco Nights 2: Best of Discofunk (Audio CD)
Disco Nights is the series that should have--but didn't go the extra mile. Promising Extended and Long Versions, it always makes sure no song runs much more than 7 minutes, even if that means editing 12" versions. This time around, you get:1. Celebration (5:00) 2. Shake Your Groove Thing (6:41) 3. Let It Whip (4:32) (not the 12"!!!) 4. FLashlight (5:49) (the full version is over 10 minutes long) 5. Stomp (6:03) 6. Sugar Pie Guy (4:37) (not the 12") 7. Got To Give it Up (6:03) (original is over 11 minutes long) 8. Jungle Boogie (3:07) 9. Burn Rubber (5:34) 10. Put Your Body In It (6:06) 11. Don't Let Go (7:21) (edit of 12" version) 12. Hang on in there (5:08)

FUNKY DISCO FUN,
By
This review is from: Disco Nights 2: Best of Discofunk (Audio CD)
Another brilliant album in this Disco Nights series, with great classics like the explosive P-Funk of Parliament's "Flash Light," Isaac Hayes' hypnotic "Don't Let Go" and Kool & The Gang's exuberant "Celebration." Great value for money and a superb introduction to an important sub-genre of 70s disco.

This review is from: Disco Nights 2: Best of Discofunk (Audio CD)
This is a great CD because it contains the LONG versions of some great all time disco funk classics.Although Disco isn't my favorite type of music per-se, I am a devout rocker with a alternative bent, I LOVE a few cuts here. My first radio on-air job was in the Urban/CHR hits format. "Burn Rubber" from the Gap Band is one of my all-time favorite songs that I fell in love with at that time of my life. It is on here in all it's great funky entirety. A must have song from the brothers Wilson, not featured on any other compliations. Another set of brothers, Johnson that is, do the other must have disco funk classic "Stomp" here. This song isn't featured on any other compilation I searched. I looked high and low at over 200 available CDs here at amazon, and found this cut included as well. There's lots of good material for any disco funkster to boogie down with, like "Jungle Boogie" from Kool & TG, but in a really perfect world, "Take My Heart" would've been included too. Hey, bottom line, this is WELL worth a spot in your CD collections disco section.

Ok cd but lacks consistency,

The first four songs are good. the best is "let it whip" closely followed by george clinton's "Flashlight". The rest of the cd is mediocre. Unless you want to buy the cd for those two songs, pass it up.

HANG ON IN THERE Duet Version -- Better Than the Original!,
This review is from: Disco Nights 2: Best of Discofunk (Audio CD)
The below poster who complains about HANG ON IN THERE BABY having the vocals of Diana Ross is incorrect -- the version on this CD is a 1980 duet between Johnny Bristol and the group Alton McClain and Destiny. It was a popular secondary version of the song that many fans actually prefer to the original (myself included). So while it is not "the original" it is definitely better than the poster describes as having "Diana Ross screeching all over it." You may even like it better than Bristol's original, at least I do, and it's a rarer version that's hard to find. Bristol's original version can be found on any number of other CDs.

I have been using Amazon.com for 6 years now, and this is the first product review i am doing.....just goes to show you how much i like this cd. I have been browsing for disco songs for many years, and this is the first time i have my all-time favorites on one disc. "Stomp", "Flashlight", and others to name a few, and classics. I would have paid twice the amount to get that!LT

The Funk Sound,
By
This review is from: Disco Nights, Vol. 2: The Best of Disco Funk (Audio Cassette)
The Best of Disco Funk is Volume Two in the Disco Night series. It is one hour, five minutes and fifty-nine seconds long and was released on September 1, 1995. Granted you can hear the funk sound through out the cassette, it doesn't mean it is the best that disco had to offer. Jungle Boogie and Celebration (both by Kool & The Gang) and Flashlight (Parliament) were the only songs that I like. The other songs I would need a funk historian to see if the remaining seven are truly disco funk music. Only buy The Best of Disco Funk if you need to finish you collection. One other thing I forgot to mention, these are all original recordings. I rated 2 stars and the price is $2.99. "LET IT WHIP" by the Dazz Band, 2nd is " CELEBRATION" by Kool and the Gang, 3rd is the "SHAKE YOUR GROOVE THING" Peaches & Herb. The rest of the songs needs to be replace.

When I first picked up this disc, I wasn't too impressed with it. But it grows on you. My favorite track is "Flashlight" by Parliament. What a low, dirty bass line! It shakes you body and soul!Marty says, "Check it out! It doesn't suck!"
