No Wave Disco Punks,
By Music Hunter "audio fusionist" (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews

I grew up in Manhattan during the 80's, so this stuff inspires memories of all the clubs I used to scam my way into (Area, Danceteria, Roxy, The Ritz, The Loft, Palladium) and dance to tracks like these, just loving the fact that I didn't know what the hell it was or who made it, just that it was different, raw and not to be heard on the radio (although Laid Back's "White Horse" was in heavy rotation on the reigning R&B station of the day, WBLS. and "Radio Clash" was a club hit before Rock radio would even touch it.
This is the soundtrack to underground New York nightlife in the early 80's and a must have for any true collectors of electro, house and new wave. I agree partially with the reviewer below regarding the sound quality being 'dirty'. Using headphones, it becomes obvious that a couple of these are mastered from scratchy vinyl sources (White Horse and Let's Go Swimming) but I'm happy to report that the rest are not are not. Until recently, most of these tracks have only been released on vinyl, so it's nice to have them as part of a comprehensive collection. Keep in mind folks, this is not the shiny overproduced slick 80's digital pop that most would expect when buying an 80's dance compilation. This is an authentic, raw slice of the international underground, D.I.Y. movement (connected by clubs in London, Berlin, Paris and NY) showcasing experimental electronic music.

Nice Selection, Bad Sound Quality,
By AC "elliptic3" (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews

A bit torn with this one. On the one hand, the tracks themselves are great... I really enjoyed the selection of rarities which provide a nice slice of a lost era. My main problem with the disc, is the horrible sound quality on many of the tracks. Instead of a direct transfer from the master recordings, most of these songs sound as though they were recorded directly off of dirty vinyl. While this approach might work with certain styles of music, it doesn't work here. My $.02
