They Call It Boogie Fever,
By A Customer
This review is from: Disco Years 3: Boogie Fever (Audio CD)
Again, Rhino dishes up more good disco from the 70's. Highlights include the favorites "Rock the Boat", "Get DOwn Tonight", "We Are Family" and "Bad Girls", as well as the not-as-often-encountered "Soul Makossa" and the rather mature (for disco anyway) "Young Hearts Run Free". A few of the tracks simply never did it for me - "Dancing Machine" sounds like a parody, and the liner notes don't lie when they call "Get Off" possibly one of the most annoying disco songs ever. In all, another good collection for you if you "want some ack-SHAWN."

disco music you will love,
By Matthew G. Sherwin (last seen screaming at Amazon customer service) - See all my reviews (TOP 100 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Disco Years 3: Boogie Fever (Audio CD)
Disco Years 3: Boogie Fever is a solid installment in this CD series; there are some great numbers here and the quality of the sound is quite good, too.
"Rock the Boat" by The Hues Corporation starts off the album really well; they harmonize and sing this to an awesome disco beat that gets my feet tapping even when I don't realize it! "Get Down Tonight" has more terrific sounds; and I can never get enough of "Boogie Fever!" "Boogie Fever" by The Sylvers has a flavor to it that I find irresistible and I think you'll like it, too. The key modulations enhance this song even more and make it infectiously happy and upbeat, to say the least. "Doctor's Orders" gets the royal treatment from Carol Douglas; and listen for other gems including the somewhat ballad/disc o sounding "I Love the Nightlife (Disco 'Round);" "Get Off;" The Village People's "Macho Man" that got so many people up and onto the dance floor; the beautiful "Young Hearts Run Free" that also seems to combine a ballad flavor with a classic disco beat; "Dancing Machine" by the legendary Jackson 5 (and Michael never lets go of a superfluous note, either); the incredible "Love Machine, Pt. 1" that impresses me so much; "Soul Makossa" which is very well done; "Dance (Disco Heat)," another infectiously upbeat, fast paced and even a celebratory number; Karen Young's "Hot Shot" which I could never tire of dancing to; "Le Freak" by Chic; Sister Sledge's "We Are Family" which remains well known even in our times; the disco flavored ballad "The Glow of Love" with another incredible beat and melody; Amii Stewart's very energetic "Knock On Wood" and the final track, "Bad Girls" by Donna Summer who released some great disco music in her time. Wow! Overall, Disco Years 3: Boogie Fever is terrific for people who want a sampling of disco music, perhaps because they are just discovering it or perhaps because they are casual fans who don't just yet want to get a more comprehensive disco music collection. At any rate, people won't be disappointed; this is first class, five star, high quality control disco music--and that's grand.

Get Down Tonight, Get Off and Soul Makossa. I love all these songs. They stand the test of time. Donna Summer, Village People and Sylvester. The very best from the disco era. This is a must have collection for any true dance/ disco fan.

Great Disco CD,

One of the best compilations of disco music made (at least that I have found) is this one, along with Volumes 1 & 2 from this series (Volumes 4-7 are good, but not great). The only song on this set I could have skipped is Soul Mankossa. It's still great. I like to workout to this CD.

Not as good as Volumes 1 & 2, but better than Volumes 4-7,
This review is from: Disco Years 3: Boogie Fever (Audio CD)
Rhino had so much success with Volumes 1 & 2 of this series that they issued 4 more volumes in 1992. In my previous reviews for CD's in this series, I mentioned some disco songs that I wished had made it on previous volumes. The same holds true for these subsequent volumes. Most of the songs here are all great songs, but many of them I already had on the individual artists greatest hits compilations.
The 5 Star songs included here are: 1. Rock the Boat - The Hues Corporation (the first official disco record) 2. Get Down Tonight - KC & the Sunshine Band 3. I Love the Nightlife (Disco 'Round) - Alicia Bridges 4. Get Off - Foxy (the liner notes call this song annoying, but I love it and I also love this groups other hit from 1979, "Hot Number") 5. Macho Man - The Village People 6. Young Hearts Run Free - Candi Staton 7. Le Freak - Chic 8. We are Family - Sister Sledge 9. The Glow of Love - Change (featuring Luther Vandross on vocals) 10. Knock on Wood - Amii Stewart 11. Bad Girls - Donna Summer The 3 Star songs(OK, but not great) included here are: 1. Boogie Fever - The Sylvers 2. Doctors Orders - Carol Douglas 3. Dancing Machine - Jackson 5 4. Love Machine - The Miracles 5. Dance (Disco Heat) - Sylvester 6. Hot Shot - Karen Young The 1 Star song that could have been left off all together as far as I am concerned: Soul Makossa - Manu Dibango 11 great songs, 6 good songs, and 1 dud is not bad for a compilation CD. Believe me, some of the later volumes get worse than this one. Recommended.

Admirable Collection of Disco,
By A Customer
This review is from: Disco Years 3: Boogie Fever (Audio CD)
Despite a few oddities, the bulk of this CD is disco and pop hits from 1974 - 80. It's not as comprehensive as volume one, but it does boast all-original versions and great sound.

Boogie on,

This review is from: Disco Years 3: Boogie Fever (Audio CD)
The Disco Years, Volume 3: Boogie Fever is one hour, four minutes, and thirty-seven seconds and was released on May 2, 1992. Starting with series three, you get eighteen songs as opposed to sixteen songs per CD. There are a few songs that a non-die hard disco nut may not have heard of like: Get Off, Soul Makossa, and The Glow of Love. All of the songs on the CD hit the charts. There are twelve number 1 songs on the CD and thirteen of the songs charted in multiple categories. The music on this CD is great. It almost makes you want to wish that Studio 54 would come alive again. The Disco Years, Volume 3: Boogie Fever gets an AAAA++++.
