4.0 out of 5 stars Serious, but palatable, November 21, 2011

This review is from: Discordia Caught in Rapture (Perfect Paperback)
Having read toniwo's account - which I found to have great spark - I would have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The first scene was a bit hard to digest considering I experienced a similar experience as a child that the main character endured, but in a crazy way, I found myself cheering for her when she made her first kill. I was most intrigued by the way her mind unraveled and how much she was a chameleon, blending into society and no one had a clue or could connect her to the murders. I felt sad thought about that. She was never significant to any of these men. That's why the connection was so hard for the police to put together. Yes she was a bad woman and I believe Rapture does not shy away from that fact, but she felt justified. But there is also a certain humility at work here and the author has pulled this intriguing blend off flawlessly.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book read like a movie, November 21, 2011
This review is from: Discordia Caught in Rapture (Perfect Paperback)
I don't believe in killing my ex, but I understand. Rapture was faced with so many obstacles in her love life, many that I believe that not just women but men can identify with. Her descriptive writing draws the reader in where it is easy to visualize her unraveling. This author tells a very different story of revenge but no redemption. She changed her victim status to a victory status and the end was so shocking, I was not expecting her cold bloodedness to be so unnoticed. On the outside, this woman was a young, urban entrepreneur but simmering underneath was a sociopath, that stalked her victims and eventually helped them meet their demise. Rapture in a word was not to be messed with and when she was, better watch out. This book wasn't a typical "Hell has no fury like a woman scorned," it was far more sinister. She was unassuming and the relationships she engaged in never had a connection making things difficult for the authorities to piece things together. Discordia was smartly written and I look forward to seeing a movie in the near future. I could see Beyonce or Gabrielle Union playing the part of the scorned African American female with nothing to lose in her mind. By the way, for those who haven't read the book, the best character was Brick, he would make the hardest woman melt. Look forward to more smart, different stories from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars A woman scorned or is she?, October 4, 2011
This review is from: Discordia Caught in Rapture (Perfect Paperback)
Rapture has had one too many breakups. And after reading how harsh the breakups came, it is understandable how she was pushed to edge. She was clever enough not to lead suspicion but like many things in life her actions from what she experienced from these men was justifiable in her mind. But like everything, there is a root cause for her emotional instability and it didn't lie within the bad relationships but something more dark and sinister.
toniwo's take on a serial killer was more personal as serial killers chose victims with similar qualities. She chose elements of the serial killer but still kept the emotional portion that women find themselves wrapped up in. At times, I thought it would be a predictable plot but in true toniwo form, she goes completely left with the storyline, leaving one to gasp. And the ending, something you never see coming. I am looking forward to a sequel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Refreshingly Innovative!, July 21, 2009
This review is from: Discordia Caught in Rapture (Perfect Paperback)
Rapture Comeaux is a woman scorned. She has put her heart and soul into every relationship only to get nothing in return. But when Rapture gets burned by her last boyfriend, she takes matters into her own hands. Rapture soon goes on a murderous crime spree against all of her past boyfriends. As the bodies start piling up, Rapture is secretly proud of her dirty work.. Rapture's cousin Thad is becoming increasingly suspicious of these murders and how they lead back to her. Rapture is running out of time as Thad gets closer to the truth. Will she be able to get away with her crimes?

Discordia Caught in Rapture is a refreshingly innovative book by Toniwo. Toniwo brought a unique story about revenge. This book shows what can happen when a woman gets pushed too far by the men that have wronged her. You feel the frustration of Rapture as she keeps getting wronged by the men in her life. Toniwo did a good job of showing Rapture's rapidly declining mental state as she commits these heinous crimes. Discordia Caught in Rapture is an entertaining novel that really steps outside of the box.
